1 LY MARKET REPORT October 5th, 2012 / Week 40 Despite China being on holiday this week the market was positive in the large sectors (capes and panamaxes) where strong gains were posted. This week's winner is the BPI which rose over 40% week-on-week to end just shy of the 600 mark. The BCI increased nearly 20% and as a result the BDI rose over 100 points to end at 875, rising just over 14% for the week. The smaller sectors suffered losses with the BSI loosing just over 4% and the BHSI nearly 6%. It will be interesting to see if the momentum will be maintained next week when the Chinese come back from holidays. We are reporting a plethora of deal, both in the wet and dry sectors. Sinokor of Korea continue their buying spree, this week purchasing two VLCCs, one VLOC and three capesize bulkers. Namely the VLCCs ALREHAB and OSPREY (abt 301,500 Dwt / Blt 1999 Japan) for US$ 27 million each, the VLOC HEBEI WINNER (256,777 dwt / blt 1993 Japan) for US$ 12 million and the capesizes BULK ASIA (170,578 dwt / blt 2001 Japan), BULK EUROPE (169,770 dwt / blt 2001 Japan) and VOGEBULKER (169,168 dwt / blt 1999 Korea) for US$ million enbloc. Greek buyers Allseas Marine have purchased on private terms three supramax and one handysize bulker in a banking deal from affiliates of Egnatia Marfin Bank. The three supramaxes being the ARROZERO TRES, CHUNGO TRES and MINERO TRES (all 57,000 dwt / blt 2011 China) and the handy the DESTINO DOS (28,495 dwt / blt 2002 Japan). Newbuilding activity continues to surprise. This week we are reporting an order for 6 x 50,000 dwt MR tankers (+4 options) at STX Korea for delivery 2014 for US$ 33 million each to U.S. based buyers.
