It has been a busy several months both onshore and at sea for Schuyler Line Navigation Company. Since our last newsletter was published, we have celebrated many achievements that we ll highlight in this edition of Signals. In addition to taking on charter the MV Norfolk and taking delivery of the ITB SLNC Moku Pahu, we were also awarded contracts to service Thule, Greenland and Diego Garcia military bases. Of course none of this would be possible without the tireless efforts of our team in Annapolis, our technical and crewing managers, and our incredibly dedicated crew in ports and on our ships around the world. We believe there s no time like the present to seize these opportunities and we are grateful to each and every one of our crew and staff for their dedication to Schuyler Line Navigation Company. 2 SUNY Maritime Honors Partners at Annual Admiral s Dinner On May 2, 2017 SUNY Maritime College hosted their annual Admiral s Scholarship Dinner at Marina Del Ray in the Bronx. The dinner was a fun-filled evening where alumni and students revisited fond memories while supporting the scholarship fund. This year, however, was particularly memorable as the dinner honored Schuyler Line Navigation Company partners Chris Hughes, Russ Paret, and Keith Zelinsky (class of 92). The Admiral s Scholarship Dinner is the college s largest fundraiser and this year was no exception. Several hundred people filled the ballroom to hear remarks by the college president, Rear Adm. Michael Alfultis as well as the Schuyler Line partners. These scholarships help us to recruit the best and brightest to Maritime College, said Alfultis. The young men and women at this college represent the best of their generation and are extremely deserving of any and all assistance they receive. I am continually impressed by their dedication, their energy and their potential as industry leaders. Schuyler Line staff, along with family and friends, were proud to be a part of this year s celebration. Our experience at SUNY Maritime was unparalleled and the education we received not only prepared us for our careers in the maritime industry but allowed us to thrive professionally, said Zelinsky. We are proud to support the scholarship fund and look forward to watching the successes of these future leaders. 2

The Norfolk is the first Schuyler Line Navigation Company vessel to call the port and headquarters staff and families were given a warm welcome from the captain and crew. During her time in Baltimore, the vessel was loaded with food aid and various government impelled cargoes on her first eastbound variable liner service. SLNC time charters the MV Norfolk from vessel operator Argent Marine Operations. In addition to welcoming SLNC staff, the crew welcomed executives from MARAD, White House counsel and two directors of trade policy. Thanks to the captain and crew for their hospitality! 4 2017 HIGHLIGHTS Calling Diego Garcia Schuyler Line Navigation Company was recently awarded a five-year charter with Military Sealift Command to supply the Naval Support Facility, other government agencies, and base contractors on Diego Garcia island. The Corsica will be used for regular service to the base. Diego Garcia is a small island in the British Indian Ocean Territory that has served largely to enhance American security in the region since In addition to supplying Diego Garcia, SLNC also currently services bases in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, the Ascension Islands, Honduras, the Far East, and Thule, Greenland. USTRANSCOM Visits Guantanamo Bay In April 2017, Schuyler Line Navigation Company hosted USTRANSCOM s 597th Ocean Cargo Clearance Authority (OCCA) during a site visit to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Schuyler Line is the exclusive carrier for cargo to Naval Station Guantanamo Bay (NSGB). SLNC provides the bi-monthly service from Blount Island, FL to Guantanamo Bay, delivering all the commodities, sundries, and supplies that the base needs to operate on a daily basis. During the visit, USTRANSCOM and SLNC worked together to streamline stevedoring, vehicle processing, and crewing to assist the ship stateside. PublicRelations@schuylerline.com SLNC Meets with Key Political Figures Senior leadership from Schuyler Line recently had the opportunity to sit down in one-onone meetings with Senator Cardin (D-Md.) and Senator Van Hollen (D-Md.) where they engaged in strategic discussions about the Port of Baltimore development and growth of the US Flag fleet. The Senators were enthusiastic and supportive of the maritime industry in Maryland. We hope to continue the open dialogue as US Flag shipping continues to gain momentum. 4

SLNC is the sole provider of ocean transportation from Denmark to the Defense Base in Thule, Greenland. Thule Air Base is the United States Air Force s northernmost base, located roughly 1500 km from the North Pole and more than 1200 km north of the Arctic Circle. Shipping.dk will act as exclusive agents for SLNC in Denmark and will provide door-to-door logistics solutions for shippers as needed.
