EXPERIENCE OUR ALASKA Dear Alaska Explorer, We invite you to share in the sense of adventure we feel while exploring Southeast Alaska s Inside Passage. It is challenging to describe its beauty lush green rainforest, rocky coastlines, thousands of stunning passages, bays, and coves words don t seem to do it justice. Perhaps the state s nickname comes the closest to a perfect summary; this truly is The Last Frontier. As you stand on the quiet deck of one of our small ships cruising the waters of a remote passage, you will feel this frontier spirit. You will sense it as you paddle a kayak to the beautiful calls of bald eagles soaring overhead, or while listening to the white thunder of a glacial calving in a turquoise fjord. As your taste buds meet fresh Alaska king salmon you ll taste the frontier, and you will feel it as you watch the sun go down next to a beach bonfire while toasting a perfect golden brown marshmallow. Experiencing this frontier offers a chance to escape from our fast-paced, modern age. One of the many reasons our family enjoys exploring the Inside Passage is simply to feel the peace that comes from leaving technology and other distractions at the dock. It gives us a time to reset, clear our minds, and appreciate the gift of unspoiled wilderness. As an Alaska Native family-owned company, we offer our guests a unique, insider s view of Southeast Alaska. This brochure serves as a comprehensive reference to our True Alaska difference. We invite you to read about our 2018 itineraries in detail, starting with our quick guide to choosing a voyage on page 20. Keep in mind that all of our itineraries feature several marquee elements of a True Alaska experience, including spectacular wildlife destinations, dramatic glacial fjords, hiking, skiff excursions, kayaking, Alaska Native cultural immersion, and a visit to our exclusive Orca Point Lodge. On page 23 you can read about our exciting new offering, the 10-night Alaska s Frontier & Wilderness Quest. An Alaskan Dream Cruises expedition allows you to enjoy a relaxed ambiance coupled with excellent service in one of the most incredible areas in the world. 4 THE TRUE ALASKA EXPERIENCE For millennia, our Tlingit ancestors thrived in the temperate rainforest of Southeast Alaska. The sea, rivers, forests, and shorelines were teeming with wildlife and vegetation, providing an abundance of all the necessities of life. Villages were established in strategic locations for trade, security, and food. Eventually, nations around the world heard whispers of the remarkable region and explorers from all walks of life sailed to the area, drawn by the allure of rich natural resources. Fur traders sought valuable pelts most notably the prized pelt of the sea otter. Fishermen devised methods of harvesting the vast resources of salmon, halibut, king crab, and other species. Others followed dreams of striking it rich in the gold fields, or of frontier lifestyles in floating timber camps. Once such adventurous spirits experienced a taste of Alaska they often stayed, establishing small communities in the shadows of massive glaciers, along salmon-laden rivers, and unspoiled islands. Today, the communities of the Inside Passage are as diverse as her striking landscapes. Our all-inclusive, small-ship itineraries offer a mix of excursions in these intriguing towns and Native villages, and adventures in raw wilderness bays and glacial fjords. This approach offers travelers a comprehensive look at all the Inside Passage has to offer. Every Alaskan Dream Cruises experience is hand-picked for its value in immersing you in True Alaska. 2 ALASKAN DREAM CRUISES 2018

SPECIAL ACCESS In order to secure hiking opportunities in some of the region s most beautiful and secluded areas, we operate under special land-use permits granted by the U.S. Forest Service. Exclusive agreements with our local friends and neighbors and our privatelyowned land provide us even further access. With such permissions, Alaskan Dream Cruises guests enjoy several hiking excursions on every expedition. From dense old-growth forests with towering spruce trees and lush underbrush, to expansive tidal flats, there s no better way to appreciate the biodiversity and profound serenity of the land than by foot. 3

PREMIER WILDLIFE VIEWING As pioneers of Alaska cruising, and after nearly 50 years of operation, we ve developed an unrivaled knowledge of the region s most abundant wildlife areas. Our routes are designed to travel through these places, while allowing ample time for up-close encounters. If wildlife viewing is high on your list of priorities during your travels to Alaska, you ll discover the benefits of our local, insider knowledge. Commonly sighted terrestrial animals include both brown and black bears, mountain goats, and Sitka black-tailed deer. Occasionally, wolf and moose are seen. Of course, Southeast Alaska is famous for its seasonal migration of humpback whales, which are engaged in almost constant feeding behaviors. Orcas, Steller sea lions, harbor seals, Dall s porpoise, harbor porpoise, and sea otters are also frequently spotted on our expeditions. Shipboard hydrophones enable us to listen for marine mammal communication. 4 ALASKAN DREAM CRUISES 2018

ACTIVE EXPLORATION Alaskan Dream Cruises is an ideal fit for travelers with a passion for adventure and hands-on discovery. Our itineraries are filled with opportunities for active exploration, both in intriguing ports of call and in remote wilderness areas. All of our vessels carry expedition craft that enable us to get even closer to the land and sea. Our Demaree Inflatable Boats (DIBs) are skiffs that are called upon for shallow-water and glacial fjord exploration. These nimble vessels are also used as beach landing craft to allow remote hiking opportunities in areas not accessible to larger craft. Kayaking is also an integral part of every Alaskan Dream Cruises experience. To ensure guests of all skill levels are able to enjoy this exciting activity, we ve designed custombuilt kayak launchers for easy and safe loading and unloading. 6 ALASKAN DREAM CRUISES 2018

ENRICHMENT Our guests visit Alaska in search of a personal connection to the places and people. We believe this deeper level of understanding is exactly what is needed to gain a true appreciation of the region. To this end, we staff our vessels with knowledgeable expedition leaders, who act as personal guides on every voyage. Our Naturalists focus on the biology, geography, and ecology of the Inside Passage, while our Cultural Heritage Guides are well versed in the lifestyle, legends, and practices of Southeast Alaska s intriguing cultures. Having these guides by your side for every step of your journey from kayak expeditions to dining ensures no question will ever go unanswered. Evenings feature compelling educational programs in our onboard lounges. You can also choose to further your understanding of the region by delving into your ship s library, which features literature pertaining to the nature and history of the Inside Passage. When you retire to your room at the end of each day, you ll find a nightly turndown letter, which details the next day s activities and provides a sneak peek of the local history, geography, and wildlife of the area you ll be visiting. Of course, this is just the preliminary plan. Alaska often provides spontaneous, once-in-a-lifetime opportunities. We allow our discerning officers the time and flexibility to adjust the daily schedule when unique occasions arise. OPEN WHEELHOUSE You ll find that the relaxed ambiance of our expeditions creates an environment that is ideal for learning through new perspectives. Such is the case with our open-wheelhouse policy. We encourage guests to visit the Captain and officers throughout the journey, as conditions permit. While on the bridge, travelers are able to see the charted course, hear ship-to-ship communications, and listen to stories from experienced Alaskan mariners.

INSPIRING CULTURES Alaskan Dream Cruises itineraries offer an opportunity to discover three distinct Native cultures, the Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian, through visits to intriguing villages. These communities are among the leasttraveled places in Alaska, and a visit can be a powerful experience. To witness the spiritual way in which the indigenous people of Alaska are connected to the earth and to each other is inspiring. Many of the remarkable residents continue to subsist off of the land and sea. As local Alaska Natives ourselves, we are grateful to be welcomed with open arms by our friends in several villages. As you walk the streets and forests of these communities, you ll have the opportunity to enjoy several planned experiences, from dance shows to carving demonstrations. You may even witness several events unique to village life: a hunter s return after a successful hunt of seal or deer, families working together to hang their harvest of sockeye salmon in a smoke house, or a ceremonial potlatch. 8 ALASKAN DREAM CRUISES 2018

BEST CULTURAL HERITAGE EXPERIENCE Alaskan Dream Cruises was honored to be the recipient of the American Indian Alaska Native Tourism Association s (AIANTA) award for Best Cultural Heritage Experience. AIANTA s mission is to define, introduce, grow, and sustain American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian tourism that honors traditions and values. 9

FRESH ALASKA CUISINE Excellent culinary fare is an important trademark of True Alaskan Hospitality. Meals feature a variety of menu options, including meat, seafood, and vegetarian selections. Of course, we take pride in presenting a taste of the Inside Passage through our strong emphasis on fresh Alaska cuisine options. From the company s beginnings, we ve worked with local seafood processors to secure the freshest catch available. Much of the seafood you ll have the opportunity to enjoy will have been caught just days prior by local fishing vessels. The catch is immediately chilled and delivered to buyers, preserving its superior flavor and texture. Such locally harvested specialties include king salmon, halibut, rockfish, shrimp, and crab cooked and prepared to a standard any Alaskan would recommend. REGIONAL BEER, WINE, & SPIRITS Our full-service bars are staffed by friendly bartenders who are ready to serve you according to your unique beverage preferences. Bars are stocked with Alaska beers, Pacific Northwest wines, and locallydistilled spirits. Due to the intimate setting of an Alaskan Dream Cruises voyage, it won t take long before your bartender knows your name and favorite beverage.

PASTRIES, BREADS, & DESSERTS It s not just the seafood that s fresh. Alaskan Dream Cruises vessels feature onboard bakers, who delight guests throughout each voyage with baked goods fresh from the oven. Awake to the aroma of homemade pastries and enjoy a basket of warm bread with your meals. Desserts are offered following dinner, as well as lunch! Don t forget to visit the lounge every afternoon for our daily Cookie Time. SUSTAINABILITY At Alaskan Dream Cruises, we understand the importance of sustainability, environmental respect, and giving back to the community. Purchasing local seafood goes beyond great taste and convenience. The fishing men and women of Alaska are our friends and family members. Each small fishing vessel is a family business, which boosts our local and state economies. The fishery is managed with great care to assure the longevity of wild stocks, which will allow this healthy resource to remain intact for generations to come. We re proud to serve wild Alaska seafood, thus supporting the region s vibrant commercial fishing industry. 11
