1 SEARCH & RESCUE: Still 10 CREW MISSING Search is on, but a super cyclone is being formed making wind speed and weather bad and search difficult but Indian aircraft search on we are awaiting further update. DETAILS OF CYCLONE: TYPHOON LAN 18th October 2017 We have been watching the windstorm LAN in the Philippine Sea since Monday. LAN has built up from a tropical storm and has now developed into a category 1 windstorm on the Saffir Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale, with maximum sustained winds of 65 kts. LAN is expected to further strengthen and possibly develop into a category 4 windstorm as its forecast path heads for the Okinawa Islands on a 96-hour lead and further north towards the south-eastern coast of Japan. As per now, Tropical Storm Risk predicts that the windstorm decreases again, to a category 3 windstorm, before it reaches the Japanese islands of Kyushu, Shikoku and Honshu on a 120-hour lead. CAT 4 storms on the Saffir Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale can reach maximum 1-min sustained winds of its. As always, Norwegian Hull Club urges all operators of shipping in all Tropical Storm / Cyclone / Hurricane / Typhoon regions to apply the necessary precautions in protecting life and assets at sea.

4 Naval aircraft fails to find trace of 10 missing Indians New Delhi, Oct. 17 (IANS): An Indian Naval patrol aircraft failed to find any more survivors of merchant ship Emerald Star that sank off the coast of Japan last week, even as 10 Indians are still missing. A P8-I maritime surveillance aircraft of the Indian Navy on Monday joined the search and rescue operations to look for any survivors. The Indian Navy said a capsized life boat around 10 meters long was found, and the information was relayed to the Japanese coast guard in Okinawa. The crew of the P8-I aircraft were told that the Japanese coast guard had already located the life boat and searched the area, but no survivors or bodies were found. No other debris or survivors were sighted, the Indian Navy said. Ten Indians went missing after the Emerald Star sank off the coast of Japan last week. Those missing included Captain Nair Rajesh Ramachandran, Second Officer Rahul Kumar, Third Officer Subramaniam Giridhar Kumar, Chief Engineer Rajput Shyam Singh, Fourth Engineer Subbiah Suresh Kumar, Junior Engineer Chauhan Ashok Kumar, Perumalsamy Gurumurthy, Malavaranan Silambarasan, Murugan Gowtham and Bevin Thomas. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj tweeted on Monday night that there were 26 Indians on board the ship, and 16 have been rescued while 10 were still missing. The Minister said in a series of tweets that the Indian Embassy informed her that a helicopter and two patrol vessels of Japan Coast Guard were engaged in search and rescue operations, and an Indian P8 -I reached Manila to join the search and rescue operation. Japan s 11th Regional Coast Guard Headquarters based in Naha, Okinawa, on Friday said that it had received an emergency call from the 33,205-tonne ship around 2 a.m. local time (5 p.m. GMT Thursday). The Japan Coast Guard said it had dispatched patrol boats and aircraft to rescue the missing crew, but the operations were hampered by a raging typhoon. According MEA, 11 crew members were rescued by the ship Densa Cobra, registered in Xiamen, China, and five more by Samarinda, registered in the Philippines.

5 **Survivors on board M/V Densa Cobra She has reached the port of Xiamen, China this afternoon, expected anchor about 10 days, agents have been appointed by the Owners P&I for the repatriation. **Survivors from M/V SM Samarinda All are already in the port of Irene, Philippines, agents appointed by P&I for repatriation. The crews are off landed and are been medically treated. All the survivors have communicated to their respective next of kin / families. We have taken up the matter with the secretary to the Ministry of External Affairs to expedite the process of the issuance of the travel documents to the rescued crew at the earliest. We have requested the ministry issue a diplomatic note to the Indian embassy in China and in Philippines. Counseling to the survivors through the port chaplain in both Philippines and in China have been arranged. Calling phones have been provided to the crew to reach out for their families. Search And Rescue The missing crew numbers still remain the same. Search and Rescue Operations are going on by the MRCC patrols and the investigations are also in progress. We have requested the MRCC to continue the search operations further. Japanese patrols have confirmed they shall carry out the SAR continuously. 6 We at Admiral marine are deeply regret to inform you that M/V Emerald Star managed by Vridhi Maritime Pvt ltd, capsized on 12 th October 2017 at around 2330 hrs IST off Philippine coast due very bad weather. At the time of the incident, the ship was in the vicinity of the Tropical Depression Odetta, as it moved closer to the province of Cagayan in Philippines. The moment we received the information about the incident, our Emergency Response Team was pressed into action. Our ERT was in coordination with Hong Kong Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre ( MRCC), Philippines Coast Guard ( PCG), Japanese MRCC, Indian MRCC, Indian Coast Guard and Director General of Shipping, Mumbai. We have also informed the Flag State and Classification Society of the vessel The families of the seafarers on board m/v Emerald Star were informed on 13 th Oct 2017 by phone call & Whatsapp about the unfortunate incident. We have been updating the families about the progress of the Search & Rescue and the situation at regular intervals by our dedicated crew coordinator. The Search & Rescue by Japanese MRCC patrol boats and aircrafts is still in progress, ships in vicinity have been informed to keep a strict look out for survivors and search shall continue till Monday the 16 th October 2017 and so on after that as well.
