These awe-inspiring views are part of your carefully designed voyage that follows the path of the Lewis and Clark expedition that rewrote the map of the American West. Aboard the new 50-cabin National Geographic Quest, you ll sail further into history as you transit the Columbia River Gorge. Traveling by ship allows you to see time layered in the riverbanks, where the Missoula Floods of 15,000 years ago carved much of the route you travel, and the landslides of 500 years ago altered the river s course by a full mile events the expedition s geologist will explain. 10 COLUMBIA & SNAKE RIVERS JOURNEY: HARVESTS, HISTORY & LANDSCAPES ITINERARY: 7 DAYS/6 NIGHTS NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC QUEST The Dalles, Oregon and Mount Hood. The Corps of Discovery expedition, led by Lewis and Clark from 1804 to 1806, was a dramatic episode in American history. Conceived by President Thomas Jefferson as more than a geographic expedition, it studied native cultures, collected specimens, and, through maps, put form to what was terra incognita. Traveling aboard the 50-cabin National Geographic Quest, retrace Lewis and Clark s rich history of exploration. Visit campsites of the Corps of Discovery and learn about their relationships with the Native American tribes. See diverse landscapes, transit a series of eight locks, and enjoy locally and sustainably sourced cuisine, including awardwinning wines and craft brews. DAY 1: LEWISTON, IDAHO OR SPOKANE, WASHINGTON/CLARKSTON/EMBARK Arrive in Lewiston or Spokane and transfer to Clarkston, Washington to embark the ship. (D) DAY 2: CLARKSTON At Clarkston, you ll find yourself at the confluence of the Snake and Clearwater rivers, more than 450 miles from the sea. Travel by comfortable jet boat up the Snake River into one of North America s most scenic spots, spectacular Hells Canyon. Plus visit the Nez Perce National Historical Park visitor center. (B,L,D) 8

Visit Palouse Falls, where cascading waters plunge into the pool below. Afterwards, sail down the Snake River, enjoying a taste of local specialties. (B,L,D) Transiting lock, McNary Dam. DAY 4: THE DALLES/MARYHILL MUSEUM Visit the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center to learn about the region s natural history. Hike or take bicycles along the beautiful river trail. In the afternoon, visit the Maryhill Museum with its impressive collection of Rodin sculptures and drawings, extensive display of Native American baskets, and other fascinating exhibits. (B,L,D) DAY 5: HOOD RIVER, OREGON/COLUMBIA RIVER GORGE This morning travel to Hood River, Oregon, where you ll visit the Western Antique Aeroplane & Automobile Museum, home to one of the largest collections of still-functioning antique cars and planes in the country, and taste award-winning wines at a local vineyard. Transit through the heart of the Gorge and get a fresh perspective on such highlights as Bonneville Lock and Dam, Beacon Rock, and Multnomah Falls. (B,L,D) DAY 6: ASTORIA You near the end of your westward journey as Lewis and Clark did, by navigating the Columbia to the mouth of the river at Astoria. At Fort Clatsop, where the explorers hunkered down for the wet winter of , walk through the full-scale reconstructed fort. Visit the Columbia River Maritime Museum, which chronicles the history of river navigation and this port town. In the afternoon, explore the Astoria area with many options to choose from. (B,L,D) DAY 7: PORTLAND/DISEMBARK Disembark in Portland and transfer to the airport for flights home or join an optional extension. (B) POST-EXTENSIONS Portland City Tour Half-day guided exploration of the city s must-see highlights, neighborhoods, and lush parks. Willamette Valley Wine Tour Combine the Portland City Tour with a visit to a few of the region s most acclaimed boutique wineries. NOTE: Both extensions can be combined with an overnight in Portland. National Geographic Quest (launched in 2017) is designed with over 50 years of expedition heritage and built in the U.S.A. She sets a new standard in exploration comfort and style. The open bridge provides guests an opportunity to meet the officers and captain and learn about navigation.
