ADOPTS in accordance rvlth with article l6(2)(d) L6(2)(d) of the 1973 convenrlon Convention anendments amendments to the Annex of the 1978 Protocol, the text of which is set out 1n in Èhe the Annex to the present resolutlon; resolution; ) 2. DETERI'ÍINES DETERMINES in accordance rsirh with arricle article L6(2) l6(2)(f)(iii) (f )(lii) of the 1973 Conventlon Convention thaë that the amendments shall be deened deemed to have been accepted on 1 October 1988 unless prior to this date one third or more of the Parties or the Parties, the conbined combined merchant fleets of which constftute constitute fifty per cent or more of the Sross tonnage of the worldfs nerchant fleet,, have communicated to the Organization Ëhefr their objections to the amenduent,s; amendments; or more of the gross tonnage of the world's merchant fleet, have communicated 3. INVITES the Partles to note that ln accordance with artlcle 16(2)(e)(ii) of the 1973 Conventlon Convention the anendnents amendments shal1 shall enter fnt.o into force on I 1 April 1989 upon thelr their acceptance ln in accordance wfth with paragraph 2 above; 3. 4 MEPC r"tepc 25/20 Page 3 ANNEX AMENDMENTS TO THE ANNEX OF THE PROTOCOL OF 1978 RELATING RELAUNG TO THE INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION FOR THE PREVENTION OF POLLUTION FROM FRoM SHIPS, SHTPS, 1973 L973 ANNEX I Regulations Regulatlons for the Prevention of Pollution by Oil 0i1 Regulation 10 Methods for the Prevention PreventÍon of Oil O11 Pollution Pollut,ion from fron Ships while operating in Special Specfal Areas The existing text of paragraph (1) is fs replaced by the following: "(1) For the purposes of this Annex the special areas are the Mediterranean MediËerranean Sea area, the Baltic Sea area, the Black Sea area, the Red Sea area, the "Gulfs area" and the Gulf of Aden area, which rshlch are defined as follows: (a) The Mediterranean Sea area means the Mediterranean Medlterranean Sea proper including lncluding the gulfs and seas therein thereín with the boundary between the Mediterranean and the Black Sea constituted constltuted by the 4loN 41oN parallel and bounded to the west nesë by the Straits of Gibraitar GíbralËar at the meridian uerldlan of o36 r 5 36'W. 5 l^1. ) (b) The Baltic Baltlc Sea area means the Baltic Baltlc Sea proper with the Gulf of Bothnia, the Gulf of Finland Flnland and the entrance to Ëo the Baltic Sea bounded by the parallel of the Skaw Skar in the Skagerrak at 'N. 57'44.8tN.
