(L,D) Overnight London, The Bailey s Hotel, 1 night Day 3 London & Azamara Journey After breakfast this morning, immerse yourself in a complete tour of two of London s most iconic landmarks Westminster Abbey and the Tower of London. Admire the delicate architecture of the Abbey, a masterpiece of the 13 th and 16 th centuries, and learn about the deep history of the famous Tower, which has served as a palace, place of execution, and has housed the Royal Mint, Royal Observatory, Royal Menagerie, and Public Records. After lunch at a classic British Pub, we make our way to Greenwich and board the luxurious Azamara Journey, our home for the next 11 days. Overnight London (Greenwich), Azamara Journey, 11 nights Day 4 Greenwich, London Greenwich is a borough within London, on the southern banks of the River Thames, and the birthplace of Queen Elizabeth I. Most famously known as the site of the Greenwich meridian line, and the home of Greenwich Mean Time, the Royal Observatory sits in the middle of peaceful Greenwich Park. The quaint district also has a notable maritime history which we will explore at the Old Royal Naval College, the National Maritime Museum, and the Cutty Sark a fully restored 19 th -century ship. Enjoy the rest of the day to discover the city at your leisure. Day 5 Amsterdam, Netherlands Known for its artistic heritage, elaborate canal system, energetic nightlife, and narrow houses with gabled facades, Amsterdam is the Netherlands mandated capital though not the seat of government which is The Hague. Its museum district houses classic masterpieces at the Van Gogh Museum, works by Rembrandt and Vermeer at the Rijksmuseum, and modern art at the Stedelijk. Along with boasting a longer canal system than Venice, cycling is also key to the city s character, with more than 760 kilometres of cycle paths and bike lanes. 3 Included Shore Excursion Zaanse Schans & Edam Zaanse Schans is a village as well as an open-air museum where you can see what everyday life used to be like before the Industrial Revolution. The houses in the Zaan area are built of wood and painted in bright green and white, which gives the village a very picturesque character. Just outside the village, at the Dutch farmsteads, world-famous Gouda cheese is produced year round according to a traditional Dutch recipe. While at the cheese farm, you will see the work that is involved in producing this delicious cheese from fresh milk. We will also visit a wooden shoe factory where you can admire the incredible craftsmanship that goes into making traditional clogs one of the most popular items to take back home from Amsterdam. We then continue on to the quiet, old town of Edam. Also called the pearl of the former Zuiderzee, this little town has numerous historic houses, monuments, canals, courtyards, and a leaning tower with an old clock from the 16 th century. Approx. 4 hours Day 6 Kiel, Germany The 98-kilometre Kiel Canal is the world's busiest artificial waterway, linking the North Sea with the Baltic and saving vessels 250 nautical miles. Operating since 1895, it was widened to accommodate larger vessels and greater demands of the Imperial German Navy in early 20 th century. Since the canal passes under 11 bridge crossings, only ships with a maximum height of 40 metres (130 feet) are able to utilize this engineering marvel. Step back in time aboard the U-995, and learn about ship-life for a submariner as you explore the confines of this genuine WWII submarine; tour the tight living quarters and claustrophobic chambers including the engine room, control room, and torpedo compartments. Just across the street, see the Marine Ehrenmal, also known as the German Naval Memorial, a towering monument that commemorates sailors who ve lost their lives in battle, before heading to Kiel for a city tour. Admire the historic Town Hall, see the famous opera house, watch the ships pass by, and learn about this historic city nestled along the shores of Kiel Fjord. After enjoying a delicious late afternoon lunch, explore the heart of Kiel at leisure during some free time before returning to the ship. Approx. 7 hours Day 7 Copenhagen, Denmark Originally a Viking fishing village founded in the 10 th century, Copenhagen became the capital of Denmark in the early 15 th century. Today, an upbeat waterside vibe permeates Copenhagen, one of Europe s most user-friendly cities. It s a welcoming, compact city with a centre largely given over to pedestrians (and cyclists) with an emphasis on café culture and top-notch museums by day and a cracking live music, bar and club scene by night. Day 9 Helsinki, Finland Positioned on a rocky headland cradling the Baltic Sea, Helsinki, Finland s southern capital, is one of Europe s most handsome, eccentric and captivating capital cities. The city maintains a personality that is markedly different from that of other Scandinavian capitals, and in many ways is closer in temperament and certainly in looks to the major cities of Eastern Europe. Its central avenue, Mannerheimintie, is flanked by institutions including the National Museum, tracing Finnish history from the Stone Age to the present. Included Shore Excursion Helsinki & Porvoo During this full-day tour of the Finnish capital, you will admire the major sights such as the Rock Church, the Sibelius monument, the Olympic stadium, the new Opera House, and the Senate Square surrounded by the Lutheran Cathedral of Helsinki, the Senate, the University and Library of Helsinki. Then, head to the charming old town of Porvoo to enjoy a delicious lunch before strolling through the historical town centre on a guided tour. Next, catch the boat to the UNESCO World Heritage site, Suomenlinna Fortress, and marvel at this 18 th -century sea fortress built across six islands. Finally, it s back to the mainland to wander through the stalls and stands of Market Hall Square before returning to the ship. Approx. 7 hours Day 10 St. Petersburg, Russia St. Petersburg is a city of haunting magnificence, an Imperial capital that seems to have been built as a monument to its own passing. Less than three centuries have passed since Peter the Great began building his grand city on the Gulf of Finland, but it is difficult to visit its vast, crystalline squares and palaces without feeling the enormity of the gulf that separates that time from our own. All of which, of course, makes St. Petersburg more evocative of Russia's past than any place except perhaps the Moscow Kremlin. This impression is only deepened by a more familiar acquaintance. The enigmatic homeliness of Peter's cottage and the city's placid canals may contrast with the brooding grandeur of the Winter Palace, but they share with it a graceful stillness that is difficult to forget. Overnight St. Petersburg Included Shore Excursion St. Isaac s Cathedral & Peterhof Palace Embark on a guided panoramic sightseeing excursion, and visit St. Isaac s Cathedral the largest Russian Orthodox cathedral in St. Petersburg. Completed in 1858, after 40 years of construction, the cathedral is one of the most impressive landmarks of the city, with its gold-gilded dome, standing more than 100 metres above the streets and dominating the city skyline. Through the cathedral s bronze doors, the interior is adorned with stunning paintings, intricate carvings, and detailed gold embellishments. Next, board a hydrofoil, a high-speed ferry, for an exciting and picturesque ride to Peterhof, the magnificent residence of Peter the Great, and enjoy lunch at a garden café in the forested countryside. Stroll through the gorgeous Lower Park with nearly 150 fountains that enhance the palace grounds, and marvel at the breath-taking Grand Cascade, the largest fountain ensemble in the world. Inside the Grand Palace, see the beautiful main staircase, the opulent Throne Room, a fabulous exhibit of Russian porcelain, the royal bedchamber, and Peter's oak study, which has survived unaltered from the original design. 5 Day 11 St. Petersburg Enjoy another day of exploring the world-renowned landmarks of Russia s second largest city. Marvel at the impressive architecture of the Small Throne Room, the Armorial Hall, and the stunning Malachite Room, and admire classic displays of 15 th - and 16 th -century art, which include works from Renoir, Degas, Monet, Van Gogh, Cezanne, and da Vinci. No tour is complete without a visit to the magnificently restored Gold Room, with an amazing collection of precious archaeological finds. Next, take in the picturesque drive out of the city to Pushkin, and enjoy lunch before exploring Catherine's Palace, the lavish summer residence of the imperial family until the time of the last tsar. Outside, stroll through the formal gardens, which are laid out geometrically and adorned with Italian marble statues and baroque pavilions. Located in the historic Shuvalov Palace on the Fontanka River, the museum contains the world s largest collection of works by Carl Fabergé, including nine of the famous Imperial Easter Eggs which were commissioned by the last Russian emperors, Alexander III and Nicholas II. After lunch, board a local boat for a relaxing cruise along some of St. Petersburg's loveliest waterways, passing under several beautiful, ornate bridges. One of the most spectacular sights along the way is the onion-domed Church of Our Savior on Spilled Blood, a church so elaborate it took almost 25 years to build. Approx. 6 hours Day 13 Tallinn, Estonia Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, lies on the southern coast of the Gulf of Finland, only 70 km south of Helsinki. At the historical and medieval heart of the city is the hill of Toompea, covered in cobbled streets and filled with medieval houses and alleyways. The lower town spreads out from the foot of the hill, still protected by the remnants of a city wall. Around the city wall is a series of well-maintained green parks, great for strolling. The city's old town has been astonishingly well preserved and was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in Included Shore Excursion Tallinn s Old Town Admire all that the medieval city of Tallinn s Old Town has to offer including the Alexander Nevski Cathedral and the Dome Church, as well as the 13 th -century Danish-German castle, Toompea Castle today, the seat of the Estonian Parliament. Then, walk down to the Lower Old Town, and see Town Hall Square with the 15 th -century Town Hall, the 15 th- century pharmacy, and the buildings of Great Guild and Brotherhood of Blackheads. Finally, enjoy the Kadriorg Art Museum and stroll through the Rocca Al Mare Open-Air Museum before heading back to the port. 6 Day 14 Stockholm, Sweden The capital of Sweden, Stockholm encompasses 14 islands and more than 50 bridges on an extensive Baltic Sea archipelago. The cobblestone streets and ochre-coloured buildings of Gamla Stan (the old town) are home to the 13 th -century Storkyrkan Cathedral, the Kungliga Slottet Royal Palace and the Nobel Museum, which focuses on the Nobel Prize. This morning, we say goodbye to the Azamara Journey and disembark in Stockholm. Experience a full-day tour of the city s major highlights, enjoy a delicious farewell lunch, and visit a few of Stockholm s great museums including the impressive Vasa Museum before transferring to our hotel for a final evening in Scandinavia.
