(D) Overnight Fort Lauderdale, Marriott Hollywood Beach, 1 night Day 2 Jungle Queen River Cruise and Board the ms Volendam Known for its beaches and boating canals, Fort Lauderdale is a bustling city, part of the greater Miami metropolitan area. The city was originally named after three forts positioned along the New River that were built by the United States during the Second Seminole War. Today, Fort Lauderdale is a major centre for yachting and one of the most popular year-round destinations for tourists. This morning, we enjoy a sightseeing cruise up the New River while discovering the history and wonders of this lush tropical river. We then transfer to Port Everglades and board the luxurious ms Volendam. Overnight Holland America ms Volendam, 15 nights Included Shore Excursion Jungle Queen River Cruise Enjoy a Jungle Queen sightseeing cruise up the dreamy New River with its ever changing scenery. Among the sights regularly seen on this tour are the plush waterfront homes, downtown Fort Lauderdale, great yacht and storage basins, a bit of the Everglades, and a stop off at the Jungle Queen Indian Village. Enjoy the setting of a beautiful tropical island with rare trees and foliage where you may even see macaws and rare birds from all over the world, alligator wrestling, and Seminole Indians. Approx. 1½ hours Day 3 Half Moon Cay, Bahamas Little San Salvador Island, also called Half Moon Cay, is a tiny private island in the Bahamas owned by Holland America Line. Accessible by cruise ship, it's known for the long, crescent-shaped Half Moon Beach. Luxury cabanas dot the beachfront, which gives way to trail-lined country rich in birdlife. Half Moon Lagoon Aqua Park has water slides and playgrounds. Stingray Cove, a lagoon enclosure, is home to tame stingrays. Included Shore Excursion Tram Tour: Discover the Island s Highlights Board your shaded, open air tram for a tour of this unique island. Exclusive to Holland America, it offers the pleasures of an exotic, tropical island combined with the comforts you seek to ensure your day is relaxed. Our local guide shares personal insight to best acquaint you with the many and varied visitor areas, activities, and amenities the island offers. Enjoy the views along the coastline as we venture to Cannon Point for an overview of the beach activities. Our brief stop at the stingray center offers the chance to see them in their natural habitat. The remainder of the day is yours to explore the island and do as much or as little as you please. Approx. 1 hour Day 4 Day at Sea With many optional activities on board, you decide in what you indulge. Treat yourself at the spa, take a yoga class or relax on deck with a good book. 3 Day 6 Cartagena, Columbia Cartagena de Indias is the undisputed queen of the Caribbean coast, a fairy-tale city of romance, legends and superbly preserved beauty lying within an impressive 13km of centuries-old colonial stone walls. Cartagena's old town is a UNESCO World Heritage site a maze of cobbled alleys, balconies covered in bougainvillea, and massive churches that cast their shadows across plazas. Included Shore Excursion Discovering Cartagena Our excursion brings this Spanish, colourful city to life with its brightly painted buildings, growing foody scene and vivid culture all competing for the attention of your varied senses. A drive through the impressive Magda residential area showcases its magnificent mansions, restored to their original splendour. The city s Republican architecture brings to mind the historic prominence Spain played in its beginnings. Explore the largest Spanish fort in the New World, the 17 th -century Fort of San Felipe de Barajas, considered to be the most important work of Spanish Military engineering in Latin America. Local handicrafts abound with artists displaying their creations at Las Bovedas. As we pass through Simón Bolívar Square, take note of the Inquisition Palace and Cathedral, also called the Minor Basilica. Built in honour of Santa Catalina de Alejandria, it has an interesting relationship with the French privateer Baron Pointis. Before free time in the Old Town to shop and explore, we stop at the Church of San Pedro Claver the patron saint of slaves. Approx. 4 hours Day 7 Panama Canal, The Path Between the Seas, Daylight Transit The Panama Canal is truly an event in itself. More than simply a canal, it is a journey of great proportion, from Colón in the East, to Panama City in the west, you pass not only ships from all over the globe, but colourful villages along the shore and through massive man-made lakes now home to diverse sanctuaries for many different animal and plant species. It is also a story of daring, courage and might by a handful of engineers and thousands of labourers. Spanning 77km from the Atlantic to the Pacific, it was built through one of the narrowest saddles of the isthmus that joins North and South America. This new route saved sailors from the treacherous Trip round the Horn and 13,000 km of sailing. The Canal locks raise ships from sea level (the Pacific or the Atlantic) to the level of Gatun Lake, 26 metres above sea level. As we enter our first lock, be on deck to look over the sides to locate the mules (small locomotives) as they pull the ship into the lock and keep it perfectly centred. In 2016, a massive project doubled the size of the Canal, ensuring its prosperous future. Along the way, we will see the new locks and marvel at their size. Day 8 Day at Sea Enjoy a relaxing day of cruising the Pacific Ocean. Day 9 Puerto Caldera (Puntarenas), Costa Rica Costa Rica holds 5% of the earth s biodiversity, yet has only a fraction of its surface, creating a dense population of plants, animals, birds and other unique creatures. Today, it is known for this biodiversity and attracts nature lovers from every country in the world. It was discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1502 when he landed near Puerto Limón on the Atlantic shore. Believing he had discovered a land of vast wealth, he named it "Costa Rica," which means "Rich Coast". Costa Rica is a rugged, rain-forested country with coastlines on the Caribbean and Pacific. Though its capital, San Jose, is home to cultural institutions like the Pre-Columbian Gold Museum, Costa Rica is known for its beaches, volcanoes, and biodiversity. Roughly a quarter of its area is made up of protected jungle, teeming with wildlife including spider monkeys and quetzal birds. Journeys by Jerry Van Dyke Cambridge Ontario Canada Page 3 of 14

4 Included Shore Excursion Tropical Mangrove Safari & Eco Tour Beginning along Costa Rica s Pacific Coast, along the Guacalillo Estuary and the Tarcoles River, this exploration by comfortable pontoon boat provides an intimate perspective into the great habitat for many endemic birds such as the mangrove cuckoo, mangrove vireo, Panama flycatcher and many herons and egrets. Watch for Iguanas and giant crocodiles in their natural habitat as tropical birds fly overhead in this wonderful world of the mangroves. A delicious snack of fresh tropical fruits will be served along with bottled water. Approx. 4½ hours Day 10 Corinto, Nicaragua Nicaragua, set between the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, is a Central American nation known for its dramatic terrain of lakes, volcanoes and beaches. Vast Lake Managua and the iconic stratovolcano Momotombo sit north of the capital Managua. To its south is Granada, noted for its Spanish colonial architecture and an archipelago of navigable islets rich in tropical bird life. Nicaragua is still being discovered. Intrepid visitors are retracing the steps of conquistadors and pirates, finding modern day treasure in the form of golden sunsets, silver beaches, and skilled handicrafts. Included Shore Excursion Historic Léon with Cultural Show & Lunch Founded in 1524 by Spanish conquistador Francisco Hernández de Córdoba, León is one of the oldest colonial cities in the Americas. León is Nicaragua s second-largest city and attracts students, artists, poets, campesinos, and a palpable distaste for multinational companies. It is a rugged part of Nicaragua and perfect for a true taste of the country. Our guide introduces us to many important facets of the city and country as we visit city landmarks such as Central America s largest cathedral, the House-Museum of Ruben Darío, and the Ortiz Gurdian Gallery. We take some time to mingle with the locals and shop for local crafts. At the Hotel El Convento a true jewel of colonial architecture, we experience a folkloric performance followed by a traditional Nicaraguan dish called Caballo Bayo for lunch. A local staple, it combines chicken, beef, pork, bananas, tortillas, beans, and salads. Approx. 5½ hours Day 11 Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala Guatemala is the Heart of the Mayan World. Its history goes back four thousand years, when the Mayan civilization emerged, whose legacy continues today with the traditions and culture of the people. Puerto Quetzal, on Guatemala's Pacific coast, serves as a cruise passenger's gateway to the inland attractions of this Central American country. As with most Central American countries, the population centres are located in the more temperate central highlands, rather than along the humid, tropical coasts. Included Shore Excursion Sights & Smells of Guatemala Today, an adventure for our senses takes us to visit an important place in the lives of all Guatemalans, a coffee plantation. The Filadelfia Coffee Estate, established in 1870 provides an in-depth look where we learn about coffee, from the plantation to the cup. Expect to learn cultivation and processing of coffee on this farm, with over 130 years of tradition that dates from Start with a walk through the wet milling and drying patio where the beans are processed and sorted and into the plantation fields. Finish the tour in our cupping lab for a sip of the best coffee in the world. Following this treat, enjoy a traditional Guatemalan grilled lunch. We continue to Antigua for a walking tour, among the main cultural highlights surrounding the Central Plaza. After a full day of activities, re-board the coach, and relax on the drive back to port. After our cruise, we board a coach for a scenic tour to the delightful town of La Crucesita. Stroll along the picturesque tree-lined streets and central plaza of this charming town. On the way, photo stops are made to capture the views at the Tangolunda viewpoint and the estuary of the Copalita River. On our return to the ship, we are serenaded by the magical sights of the dazzling crescent of white sand beach and emerald waters that comprise La Entrega Beach. Approx. 3½ hours Day 13 Day at Sea Enjoy a relaxing day of cruising the Pacific Ocean. Day 14 Puerto Vallarta, Mexico Puerto Vallarta is a resort town on Mexico s Pacific coast, in Jalisco state, best known for its beaches, water sports and nightlife scene. Its cobblestone centre is home to the ornate Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe church, boutique shops and a range of restaurants while El Malecón is a popular beachside promenade with numerous contemporary sculptures. Puerto Vallarta was a thriving Mexican village long before it became an international tourist destination. With its proximity to the Bay of Banderas, the agricultural valley of the Ameca River, and the important mining centers in the Sierra, the town has a rich cultural history.
