CSA TRUST FUND LIMITED TRAINING EXERCISES FOR 2017 DELIVERING TRAINING, A PARTNERSHIP TO CSA MEMBERS
CSA TRUST FUND LIMITED This company began as a part of the Caribbean Shipping Association s mandate to provide training to the shipping community. It has since evolved into being a stand alone entity which has trained thousands of participants since its inception. For future, the CSA Trust Fund Ltd hopes to double the amount of persons trained to date with the many advances in technology and procedures in the shipping and affiliated industries. A yearly training schedule is prepared with focus being to provide at least 5 workshops, seminars or a mixed delivery in five different countries. For 2017, the programmes were evenly spread over the Dutch, English, French and Spanish speaking territories.
KINGSTON WHARVES LTD TERMINAL EXCHANGE- FEBRUARY 20-24, 2017 This seminar/workshop opened the training year. Nine participants from over 5 countries took part in this exercise. For five days they were immersed into the operations of Kingston Wharves Limited with various department supervisors and managers imparting their knowledge.
FALMOUTH CRUISE TERMINAL EXPEDITION As a part of the exercise, KWL was hosted by the Port Authority of Jamaica (PAJ) at the Falmouth Cruise Terminal where the trainees had the privilege to see the facilities and experience two vessels on call. A walkthrough tour was conducted by head of Operations at the Terminal Mr. Senior. The Candidates were treated to an extensive background on the development of the terminal facilities and protocols.
TESTIMONIALS Mr. Sudarmo Toby, Assistant Operations Officer at the St. Vincent & the Grenadines Ports Authority, presented a group testimonial and thank you on behalf of his fellow trainees and himself to both the CSA and KWL on the closing day of the training. The gratitude for the opportunity was exceptionally resonant throughout Mr.Toby s presentation.
BROMMA MOBILE HARBOR CRANEKINGSTON WHARVES LIMITED THIS SESSION WAS THE SECOND OF ITS KIND TO HAVE BEEN CONDUCTED AT THE KINGSTON WHARVES LTD TERMINAL.
BROMMA/CARGOTEC PROGRAMME OUTREACH In an ongoing collaboration with the CSA, BROMMA/CARGOTEC hosted a training seminar at the Kingston Wharves Limited demonstrating techniques to use their latest mobile harbour crane model. Through this training collaboration with the CSA, BROMMA secured more investors in their harbour technology and aided employees comfort in their easy use of their equipment.
TESTIMONAL The training received was very informative and extensive. The interaction with your staff members and exchange of knowledge and experiences was most welcome. In my opinion this goes well for both our ports and the Caribbean on a whole. It is also my opinion that more joint training be conducted on other pieces of equipment which both of our companies use. Example Taylor and Terex. Again thank you for the experience and opportunity. - Dale Williams Barbados Port Inc.
MANZANILLO INTERNATIONAL TERMINAL EXCHANGE PROGRAMME (MIT) MARCH 20-24, 2017 MIT has been the recipient of multiple Container Port of the Year awards from the Caribbean Shipping Association. Their agreement to demonstrate their best practices to their fellow colleagues has opened the doorway for a year terminal exchange tour
TERMINAL EXCHANGE INITIATIVE Trainees were exposed to four days of mixed deliveries on topics ranging from port operations to equipment procurement and maintenance. Trainings were immersion sessions giving attendees a hands on approach to understanding the procedures, troubleshooting techniques and mandates of the Manzanillo International Terminal.
MARTINIQUE- APRIL 3-7, 2017 Customs, Terminal and Port Agency Seminar Twenty French speaking participants were trained through the use of an interpreter from the Pro Langues lingual agency. This training was the first of it s kind for the CSA in the French West Indies. The programmes were facilitated by Drs Fritz Pinnock and Ibrahim Ajagunna of the Caribbean Maritime University.
CRUISE TOURISM SEMINAR This seminar attracted 20 participants from 5 different organizations of which Cluster GAT Caraibes had the most trainees. The course focused on methods to develop cruise tourism as a viable source of economical development. Following evaluations, feedback from participants deemed the course to be informative, timely and necessary.

In Willemstad, Curacao there were over 100 participants at this was conducted by partners of the CSA, De Ruyter Training Centre. Day one of training covered the Introduction in the Cruise Industry. With Curacao being a popular destination on various cruise itineraries, this workshop was highly subscribed to and a success. The second day s training focussed on the General ISPS (International Ship and Port Facility Security Code). The trainees received a wealth of knowledge on an area where there is always great concern.
BARBADOS- JUNE 26-29, 2017 In collaboration with the Shipping Association of Barbados and Barbados Port Inc. a total of 44 persons were trained over the course of four days by Drs Fritz Pinnock and Ibrahim Ajagunna of the Caribbean Maritime University. Two days of intense training were dedicated to Customs, Terminal and Port Agency. Participants received information on the history of shipping culminating with the establishment of agents, customs system and the operations of terminals. They were entreated to facts and legislations which would affect the industry. A first of its kind for the CSA, trainees received training in Strategic Leadership and Innovation. The seminar focussed on the development of the shipping and maritime industries. They were taught the importance of customer care, to understand the importance of branding and reposition, the concept of BLUE OCEAN PHILOSOPHY and to understand rethinking innovation and creative destruction. They also garnered self and time management skills.
CYBER SECURITY OUTLOOK SEMINAR- AUGUST 30-31, was very active in cyber security breaches economically and every industry became a target. The shipping industry became hyperaware of its threats when Maersk was victim of a series of cyber intrusion. Preceding this news, the CSA had embarked on continuous topical presentations on Cyber Security. This established a training series titled CSA Cyber Risk Workshop- Examination, Identification and Reduction through the collaboration with O.C.E.A.N.S. LLC, trainers on maritime security and experts in international cyber and physical security.
TRAINING MISSION 2017 For 2017 this was a record breaking year for the training vision of the CSA Trust Fund Limited. With over 200 persons trained in all four territories, the objectives set out by the CSA s General Council were achieved to the tune of US$56, 000. From funds pledged by members of the association and the Silver Club, an extension of the CSA, the CSA will continue to purpose its cause through the CSA Trust Fund Limited, a charitable organization. Through 100% expenditure from funds pledged, the CSA Trust Fund Ltd yearly records a loss owed to subsidized fees and 100% free seminars and workshops. The full cost to attend such as accommodations, roundtrip airport transfers and venue transportation is covered by solely by the CSA Trust Fund Limited. The CSA Trust Fund Limited hopes to continue the partnership with the members of the CSA in pursuit of enhancing the shipping industry.
