7 WHAT IS CDEMA? v Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA - formally CDERA) is the regional inter-governmental Agency responsible for disaster management in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) v CDERA was established in 1991 by an Agreement of Heads of Government of CARICOM v CDERA officially transitioned to CDEMA on September 1, 2009 v 18 Participating States including Haiti and Suriname who joined on September 1, 2009
