2 CALLING ALL CUB SCOUTS: Don t miss the FUN, the chance to LEARN NEW SKILLS, and HAVE NEW EXPERIENCES REGISTRATION AND COST: Day Camp is for registered Scouts only. Camp registration and payment must be done through your Pack. NO LATE REGISTRATIONS OR REFUNDS! (Materials & T-shirts are ordered immediately after the deadline.) Each Scout must attend the camp appropriate to his level in Scouting. Each camp has a different program content geared to the ability and interest of boys attending at their rank level. COST: $45--includes all program materials, T-shirt, patch and insurance. Camperships are available for Scouts who could not attend without financial assistance. See your Cubmaster or Pack Day Camp Coordinator for more information. PARENTS: * In order for your son to attend Day Camp, you will need to make a commitment to attend camp as well, for at least one day. (More days would be great for your son and for the overall camp program!) * There are two different ways a parent can attend camp. You can volunteer to serve as either: PROGRAM STAFF You stay at one site for the entire day and lead that activity for each of the 5 periods. Don t worry! All programs are planned; all materials and training are provided. It is expected that on the day you are volunteering as Program Staff that you will set up your program area and return all supplies at the end of the day. This does not fulfill your Pack's obligation to help with set-up or clean-up to get your Pack s deposit back. This volunteer position will require training..see ratios and details on page 3. DEN GUIDE You move around the camp with your den, escorting them to different activities, helping the boys, and acting as additional help at each of those different activities. This volunteer position will require training..maximum of 5 to 7 Scouts per Den Guide. If a Scout or your group as a whole requires additional supervision, you must provide it. You must also know that there is a $50 Deposit per Rank/ per Pack There is a $50 Set-up/Clean-up deposit required for each Rank attending camp per Pack. In addition to meeting the volunteer requirement for Program Staff and Den Guides, at least 1 person per Rank from your Pack MUST fulfill the set-up or clean-up responsibilities in order to get your Pack s $50 deposit back. Set-up or Clean-up help Your Pack has made a $50 deposit for each week your Pack is attending camp. Volunteers are needed for set-up or clean-up help so that your Pack s deposit is not forfeited. Webelos I & II Camps DO NOT have daily opportunities for set-up/clean-up! Please see schedule on pages 4 & 5 for details. 2

3 Program Staff The following areas need to be staffed: (Remember: This is stay in one site to lead an activity. All programs are planned and materials provided.) Sports Nature (Wolf & Bear) Scout Skills (Webelos I & II) Crafts Erehwon (Puzzles & Illusions, Games/Activities, or Disability Awareness) Archery Range Instructor (Wolf, Bear, Webelos I) Must run a range all week. BB Range Instructor (Webelos II only) Must run a range all week. First Aid Station (You must have current CPR and at least advanced 1 st Aid training at a minimum.) Kiddie Korral (You will work with the siblings of the attendees whose parents are volunteering that day. Materials are provided, but you will be responsible for not only supervising but engaging them in activities, serving snack, etc. Be ready for an active day! We appreciate volunteers who specifically request Kiddie Korral if that is of interest to them.) Note that Program Staff are required to arrive at camp early to set up their areas or to assist with setting up another area and need to take down their area or assist with taking down another area and returning supplies at the end of the day. This DOES NOT count as meeting the Pack s set-up or clean-up requirements to receive the Pack s deposit back! Program Staff Training Program Staff training is essential for a quality program. Unless you are an archery or BB range instructor, you must attend one of the following sessions: (Note that this is an annual requirement and must be completed by every Program Staff volunteer each year.) Program Staff trainings will be held at: American Community Bank & Trust 381 S. Main Street, Crystal Lake June 1 (Mon.) 7pm June 3 (Wed.) 7pm June 9 (Tues.) 7pm June 13 (Sat.) 9am Prince of Peace Lutheran Church 932 McHenry Ave, Crystal Lake, June 14 (Sunday) 6am Program Staff Requirements: 1 5 boys: 1 day of Program Staff 6 9 : 2 days : 3 days : 4 days : 5 days : 6 days Shooting Range Instructors - Unless trained in 2014, attendance at a session is mandatory. Training sessions will be held at Ken Pearson s residence: Sunday, May 17--archery at 1pm and BB's at 3pm Saturday, May 30--archery at 1pm and BB's at 3pm Sunday, May 31--archery at 1pm and BB's at 3 pm Saturday, June 6 --archery at 1pm and BB's at 3pm Sunday, June 7 --archery at 1pm and BB's at 3pm 3

4 Den Guides 1. Adults who move around from program area to program area with the boys. 2. Responsible for supervising the boys the entire day. 3. Assist the Program Staff at each station. Recommended ratio: 5 boys/each adult, Maximum ratio: 7 boys/each adult Keep in mind that if you have a boy in your group that requires the assistance of a 1-to-1 Aide in school, you may want to schedule an additional Den Guide each day beyond the recommended ratio to make sure that everyone has an enjoyable time at camp adults included. All boys from your Pack remain together as a group at camp, so all dens on that level from your Pack share the responsibility of leadership for the week. Den Guide Training will be done within your Pack. Your Pack s Day Camp Coordinator will schedule this. You are responsible for reading through the Den Guide Training Packet as well. Den Guide Orientation at the Camp Location This is so you can find out how to get to camp, how long it will take and where to go once you arrive at camp, and ask questions that arise during your Pack Den Guide training, etc. (Den Guide Training is done within your Pack.) At Camp Lakota: Sunday, June 28, at 1pm Webelos I & II Sunday, July 5, at 1pm Webelos II At McHenry Township Park: Sunday, June 14, at 3pm Wolf & Bear Monday, July 20, at 9am Wolf & Bear Sunday, July 26, at 3pm Bear Volunteers Needed Volunteers are what keep the cost of camp at the reasonable rate of $45 for everyone. We need YOU! These are the opportunities to volunteer in order to earn the refund of your Pack s deposit check. Many hands are needed for each of the following: Webelos I Camp at Camp Lakota: Saturday, June 27, 1:30pm (Load truck-crystal Lake) 1.5 hours Limited to first 3 Packs to sign-up Call John Kalas to sign up, Sunday, June 28, 1:30pm (Unload truck, set up Archery ranges, move picnic tables) 3 hours Saturday, July 11, 9am (Load truck, clean facility & grounds, move tables, transport equipment to storage facility and unload) 3hours Webelos II Camp at Camp Lakota: Sunday, July 5, 1:30pm (Transport equipment, set up BB ranges, move tables) 3 hours Saturday, July 11, 9am (Load truck, clean facility & grounds, move tables, transport equipment to storage facility and unload) 3hours Webelos I & II only: Parking & Attendance (2 Adults needed per day) You would need to be at camp by 8 AM in the morning to direct parking and stay until approximately10:30 to tabulate attendance. Call John Kalas to sign up, NOTE: There is not an opportunity for daily set-up or clean-up help at Camp Lakota other than the Parking & Attendance volunteers. This is different from McHenry Township Park. 4

5 Volunteers Needed (cont d) Wolf and Bear Camp at McHenry Township Park: Monday, July 20, 10am (Load truck at storage site, transport to camp & unload) 2 hours Daily, 8:15am (Archery ranges need to be put up.) 1 hour Daily, 2:45pm (Archery ranges need to be taken down, equipment stored.) Up to 1 hour Thursday, July 30, after camp (Pack & transport equipment to storage site and unload. Clean grounds.) 2 hours Transportation Each parent is responsible for their son s daily transportation to and from Day Camp. Most Packs arrange car pools. That information will come from your Pack Coordinator. Daily Attendance You must inform the adult who is the Den Guide for the day prior to camp if your son will be absent. (We must verify the whereabouts of every registered camper daily.) Kiddie Korral Child care is available during camp for brothers and sisters of Day Campers only on the day that you are in camp as Den Guide or Program Staff. The cost is $3 per child per day. You must provide lunch for them and supervise your child during lunch and the lunchtime program. Children must be fully potty-trained unless you are the Kiddie Korral staffer on that day. If your Scout has siblings and you bring them to camp, you MUST put those siblings in Kiddie Korral. They MAY NOT travel with a parent during the day. This applies to both older and younger brothers and sisters, including Cub Scouts not enrolled in that session. Boy Scout Policies on Smoking and the Use of Alcohol It is the policy of the Boy Scouts of America that adults may not smoke in the presence of Scouts. The use of alcoholic beverages is strictly prohibited at any Scout function. EMERGENCY CANCELLATION OF CAMP: If camp must be cancelled, your Pack s Emergency Contact as listed with your registrations will be notified as soon as possible and they will notify you. 5

6 DONATIONS NEEDED Please save the following to donate for program use: Plastic mesh fruit, vegetable, and turkey bags Socks--no holes in the toes must be clean and dry 14- to 18-oz. fruit & vegetable cans, clean and thoroughly dry Plastic, rectangular baby food containers (with clear lids) clean and dry Cool Whip containers with lids & Cool-Whip-sized plastic lids by themselves Safety Glasses (preferably new) Yarn & string Plastic film canisters Pringles cans (with lids) Nature Specimens Misc. Craft supplies & Toys for Kiddie Korral These items may be brought to any Roundtable as you collect them, or to any Day Camp training session. WHAT TO BRING TO CAMP: *Label all belongings! *Sack lunch (include a drink) *Backpack *Rain gear *Sunscreen *Plastic cup or water bottle (or bottled water) *Hat of some type *Applies to adults as well as Scouts! Wear your day camp T-shirt every day. *Wear Shoes with Socks *NO SANDALS *Wear a sweatshirt or light jacket if the weather indicates *Webelos: Insect repellent No pumps or aerosol sprays, please Den Guides need to provide: Ice Chest(s) with ice (enough room for all of the lunches for your Pack) (Note: water frozen in milk jugs works well for this purpose) Blanket(s) to sit on for lunch Wet Ones (or equivalent) for hand cleaning Garbage bags for litter and lunch garbage (You must take it home each day.) 6
