1 STRENGTHENING THE FOUNDATIONS OF COMMUNITY YMCA OF THE TRIANGLE 2020 VISION LONG RANGE PLAN UPDATE A Clear Charge from Community Leaders In 2010, the YMCA of the Triangle began a process of defining our vision for the next decade. More than 250 key Triangle leaders provided input and perspective on the most critical issues that face our region. They challenged us to: 1. Sharpen and expand our educational programs for youth. 2. Address the health and obesity crisis facing our community. 3. Commit to developing broad-minded leaders for the future. Under the leadership of a volunteer steering committee, our board shaped and approved the 2020 Long-range Plan. From 2013 to 2016, staff, volunteers and community leaders focused on meeting the second set of three-year objectives. We are pleased to share our progress with you. 2 Goal 1: To be a regional leader, advocate and collaborator to strengthen academic performance for youth, ensuring that every school has an extracurricular educational option. Serving over 1,700 students in YMCA Academic Support Programs across six counties. Operating kindergarten readiness programs at four branches through the expansion of the YMCA s Annual Campaign. Developing strategies to ensure that all children in Y after school academic programs seamlessly move through the YMCA program model, preschool through high school 12 months a year. Continuing to communicate the Annual Campaign story across all communication channels Annual Campaign case recognized nationally for concept, strategy and storytelling model. Youth Development leadership is currently researching and developing a strategy to ensure academic success in all YMCA Academic Support Programs. This includes Program curriculum and delivery, Staff Training, School-system relationships and Data collection and application.

3 Goal 2: To become a regional leader, collaborator and advocate to improve community health. Healthy Living leadership staff researching Corporate Wellness programs with planning set to begin in the first quarter of YMCA Diabetes Prevention has grown to serve 150 participants. Expanded Healthy Hero initiative Association wide. The message (5 fruits/veggies, 2 hours or less of screen time, 1 hour or more of physical activity, 0 sugary drinks) uses a multisector approach to reach children and families where they live, study, work and play to reinforce the importance of healthy eating and active living. Continuing to strengthen current partnership with WakeMed health care providers to promote health and wellness across our region developing partnerships including Duke, Rex/UNC and Central Carolina Hospital (Lee County). Researching and developing strategies to strengthen the value of YMCA membership for all members, with emphasis on the adult(s) with dependent category and all families. Collaborating with The Produce Box to provide free fresh fruits and vegetables to families in Camp High Hopes, the YMCA s subsidized summer day camps. Developing internal policies that support health and well-being of YMCA staff. Enhanced full-time staff benefit package; adding two days of paid benefit time for staff to volunteer in the community. Launched a new member onboarding initiative 8 Weeks to a New You across the Association in January YMCA of the Triangle remains a significant fiscal sponsor for Advocates for Health in Action a community coalition with 60+ partners that impacts Wake County community health through policy, systems and environment changes related to physical activity and healthy eating.

4 Goal 3: To ensure exceptional quality in all of our existing facilities and in our core programs. Master site plans completed for the Taylor Family YMCA (former Cary Family YMCA), Kraft Family YMCA, YMCA Camp Kanata, Alexander Family YMCA, YMCA Camp Sea Gull & Camp Seafarer and the Chapel Hill-Carrboro YMCA. Expanded wellness space at the Alexander Family YMCA, providing a more open atmosphere and allowing additional equipment to be utilized. Renovation and expansion work completed at the Taylor Family YMCA added youth entrance, multipurpose room and additional wellness space. A.E. Finley YMCA wellness area and locker room renovations, campus improvements and roof work completed. Opened outdoor pools at YMCA Camp Sea Gull and YMCA Camp Seafarer. Added six additional cabins at YMCA Camp Seafarer. Added two additional duplex cabins, CILT housing and staff housing at YMCA Camp Kanata. Purchased and began renovations on a larger facility with expanded amenities in Lee County. Expanded access to YMCAs in the Triangle and across North Carolina and Virgina through membership reciprocity.

5 Goal 4: To be the premier organization in the region for community service and leadership development for youth, teens, staff and volunteers. 86% of YMCA of the Triangle full-time staff have received the Darkness to Light Child Abuse Prevention Training. Launched two Employee Resource Groups: African-American Hispanic-Latino Network and Women s Leadership Network for YMCA of the Triangle employees. Association-wide and branch volunteer opportunities include, 9/11 Service Day, MLK Service Day, Veterans Day and ongoing work in YMCA Community Gardens. Diversity and Inclusion work continues: 73 staff and volunteer leaders have participated in the Racial Equity Institute, 175 staff have completed Y-USA Cultural Lenses and 53 have completed the Y-USA Dimensions of Diversity course. Volunteerism aligned to Learning & Leadership Development and a Volunteerism Cohort has been established. 90% of full-time employees have been introduced to the Y-USA Leadership Competency Model and asked to create IDPs (individual development plans) to support their growth and development as Cause-driven Leaders. Goal 5: To develop and implement innovative means to deliver our programs to communities and constituencies who need and desire YMCA services and programs. Purchased land in Southeast Raleigh to serve as the YMCA Beacon Site and home of the future Southeast Raleigh YMCA. YMCA of the Triangle s Swim For Life Program adopted by YMCA of the USA as national model. Began construction of the future Poole Family YMCA in Garner. In collaboration with Crosspointe Church, construction began on the new Northwest Cary YMCA.
