2 If you have a Scout that will be a Webelos I & Webelos II in the summer of 2015; This Camp is for You! Dear Bear Den Leaders and Webelos Den Leaders, Welcome to Webelos Resident Camp at Camp Daniel Marshall. Webelos Resident Camp is geared toward Webelos Patrols camping with two or more adult leaders. Webelos is the first step towards Boy Scouting and the implementation of the Patrol Method. During your stay at camp, emphasis will be placed on working together as a Patrol. Each Patrol will select morning and afternoon activities to participate in as a Patrol. Registration as a Patrol is critical to your Webelos success during your stay at Webelos Resident Camp. If you can t go to camp when your den goes, your Webelos can still come with a parent as a Provisional Scout. Now that you and your Webelos den are signed up, get ready to enjoy an amazing time at Camp Daniel Marshall. The staff has worked very hard to make sure that you and your Patrols have the experience of a lifetime at Webelos Resident Camp Please take time to read through this Leaders Guide. It spells out what you will need to do while planning for a great stay at camp and what you and your Webelos Scouts can expect once you arrive at camp. Some forms will need to be completed and returned to the Camp Director before you come to camp. Make sure that every leader or parent that will be attending camp has had the opportunity to read this guidebook. This guidebook is available on the website at Scouts will get a chance to spend time in larger groups as well and have some quality time with their friends in their Patrol. Meals will be served cafeteria-style in the dining hall. Like Boy Scouts at summer camp, Webelos will work together to share campsite duties. This year s theme at Camp Daniel Marshall is Superhero Academy During each of the sessions, activities and events will be intertwined with various superhero themes and backgrounds, providing a template for a fun and educational experience for everyone! As you may have heard, the advancement program is changing for Cub Scouts this year! Webelos Patrols will work on three Webelos Adventures in the morning and one in the afternoon. Also in the afternoon, Patrols will chose from a list of fun activities including swimming, boating, shooting sports, and other Webelos age appropriate activities. If there are any questions that you may have about our program or how to attend Webelos camp, please do not hesitate to me d.hartley@scouting.org or call (706) I look forward to a fun-filled stay with you and your den this summer at Camp Daniel Marshall. 6 Program and Advancement General The program at Camp Daniel Marshall is built around the new Cub Scout Adventure program and Scouting Skills to prepare Webelos for Boy Scouts. If your Webelos decides to continue working on the old Activity Pins, he can still come to camp since many of the new Adventures are based on the old Activity Pins and will cover several of the same requirements. If you have concerns check with your Cubmaster. The adventures selected were based on those best suited for a camp setting. Each Webelos Patrol will have the opportunity to work on up to four Adventures while at camp. There will be three program periods in the morning and one in the afternoon. Program activities we be based on this year s superhero theme. In addition, there will be opportunities in the evening for camp wide activities. There will also be open programming during the afternoon. Open program events will include shooting sports (sign up required upon arrival), canoeing, kayaking, fishing, swimming, obstacle courses, crafts (leather kits, basketry), and other activities. Upon arrival, Patrols and Leaders will be able to sign up for the shooting sports ranges to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to shoot with a minimal wait. During this time we also encourage scouts to participate in a Scouts Skills Course to prepare the Patrols for the camp wide activities. Scout Skills include: whittling chip, fire building and string burning, knots, and Leave No Trace training. Webelos Adventures (Activity Badges) Webelos Adventures, formally known as activity badges, are offered during the three morning sessions and one afternoon session. All Webelos will rotate through these groupings. Webelos will work on the same Adventures at the same time each day during their session at camp. Each Patrol may choose from a group of four (4) Adventures that their Webelos would like to earn and work with a buddy in the afternoon session. This year we feature four (4) Adventures required for the Webelos Badge, and one (1) required for Arrow of Light.
