2018 Webelos Weekend at Camp Wolfeboro July 6 8, 2018 LEADER'S GUIDE Mt. Diablo Silverado Council, BSA 800 Ellinwood Way, Pleasant Hill, CA Phone: ; Fax: Evelyn.McManus@Scouting.org Website:

Who Can Attend? The Webelos Scout who is looking for an outdoor adventure and a parent or guardian are the hardy campers who will attend this event. How much does it Cost? Every effort is made to keep costs low while providing a safe, fun event for you and your future Boy Scout. The registration fees below cover food, craft supplies, sporting good supplies, staff salary for positions requiring National Camp School certification, insurance, and incidentals to keep a camp open (like electricity, permits, equipment repair, etc.). Webelos will receive a camp patch as part of their fees. Some of the overhead costs of keeping Camp Wolfeboro operating are offset by Friends of Scouting and other donations. The base cost per person to attend camp is: Cub Scout $115 Adult $115 Camps are limited to the first 150 campers per event. You are encouraged to sign up early to save your space! Earn a free s'mores kit! Keep an eye out for your s'mores kit. Mmmm... chocolate, marshmallows, and graham crackers! Take these ingredients and make a tasty dessert one evening. How Do I Register for Camp? For your convenience, registrations may be made online at our council website, REGISTRATION LINK: Credit card payments (Mastercard, Visa, Discover, or American Express) must be made at the time of registration. You may alternately fill out a paper registration form (at the end of this guide) and turn it in to the council service center at 800 Ellinwood Way, Pleasant Hill, CA You will need to include payment with the form for EVERYONE listed on the form. Payment may be made with check, cash, or credit card listed in the previous paragraph. After your registration for Webelos Weekend is submitted. you will need to have all campers complete their medical forms Parts a, b, and c and the permission slips (web link to forms available in this guide). These forms will be collected when you check in at Camp Wolfeboro.

Refund Policy In order to prepare for any Scouting activity, we try to reduce costs of program supplies, patches, t-shirts, and some non-perishable food by buying them a month to six weeks ahead of the activity. When reservations are made, they are figured in the ordering of materials and estimating the number of support staff that is needed for the activity. Funds are allocated and spend in anticipation that everyone who makes a reservation intends to attend family camp. (Thank you for helping us to plan accurately!) We will strictly adhere to the Camp Refund Policy. Individuals who are unable to attend camp due to illness, accidents, or family emergencies may request a refund of the fees paid for camp. All refunds will be subject to the following procedures: 1. Refund requests must be made at least 1week prior to the start of the camp session. 2. Refund request must be made in writing to the Webelos Weekend Camp Director, Mt. Diablo Silverado Council, 800 Ellinwood Way, Pleasant Hill, CA All refunds will be sent to the person making the request. 4. No refunds will be made once the camp session has begun. 5. All refunds must be evaluated and approved by the Webelos Weekend Camp Director. VERY IMPORTANT-Health and Medical Record Forms: Response time for emergency medical services to Camp Wolfeboro is over 30 minutes. It is important that participants are able to get around in a high altitude environment. Our Webelos Weekend Camp at Camp Wolfeboro requires Parts A, B, and C (including a medical examination). 5 Accreditation The Mt. Diablo Silverado Council's camps are nationally accredited. The camp annually undergoes a rigid inspection based on the National Camping Standards of the Boy Scouts of America. Policies The Mt. Diablo Silverado Council follows certain policies and requirements that have been developed by the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America. These policies and requirements insure that the camp is a safe haven for your child, your family, and your pack. 1. No alcoholic beverages are allowed on camp property. 2. Smoke Free Policy - all buildings or facilities are designated as nonsmoking facilities. Smoking is not allowed outside entry and exit doors of any building or in activity areas. The designated smoking area is located behind the main lodge. 3. The Boy Scouts of America will not tolerate any form of child abuse in any form-emotional, physical, sexual, or neglect. Parents should be confident that camp is a safe haven for their children. 4. Hazing is not permitted in any form. 5. Boys may have other boys as "tent mates". 6. Only the parents of a child may sleep in the same tent with the child. Adults will be camping in the same campsite as their children. 7. No pets are allowed in camp. 8. Personal firearms and archery items are not allowed on camp property. What to expect upon arrival at camp Expect to travel 3-4 hours by car to Camp Wolfeboro from the Bay Area. You and your Webelos Scout may arrive at camp on Friday any time around 6 PM. Upon arrival, you will check in with the Camp Director and turn in all medical forms. Your gear for the weekend will be loaded on the camp truck and transported to the bottom of the hill. Unless you have a high-profile vehicle with 4-wheel drive or are handicapped, we recommend that you join our camp staff for a mile and a half hike to the bottom of the hill. Please wear good walking shoes or boots, and bring a full water bottle or canteen. You will meet the camp truck and carry your gear to your campsite with some help and escort from the staff. Meals Meals will start with Saturday breakfast and end with Sunday breakfast. You are encouraged to eat dinner before you arrive at camp on Friday night. There are a number of places in Angels Camp and Arnold that can serve as your meal stop.

Program at Camp You can join in the Boy Scout campfire on Friday evening, or just relax in your campsite. Saturday will be kicked off with the morning flag ceremony followed by breakfast. After that, the Webelos will have the opportunity to go to all of the camp program areas and participate in activities in Scoutcraft (Scout outdoor skills), the Nature Lodge, Handicraft, Archery, BB guns, swimming, row boats, and campfire! Saturday will wrap up with a campfire devoted solely to the Webelos. Have your Scouts bring ideas for skits and songs. We would love to have them perform in our campfire program, but remember that the skits must be Scouting appropriate! After breakfast on Sunday, you will have a chance to pack up your gear to load it on the camp truck. Check out time will be 10:00 AM on Sunday morning. Advancements at Camp All program areas and activities are developed from the Webelos advancement handbooks. Although there is no formal sign offs on various requirements, parents should review their sons' handbooks to see what requirements they can sign. Projects, games, nature hikes may fall under activity pin requirements. While Adventure Pins may be available to complete, this is not a focus of this program. What is our Campsite Like? Each campsite has picnic tables that can be shared. You can set up your tents anywhere in your assigned campsite. There are bathrooms close to each campsite field plus other bathrooms dispersed throughout the camp. You will have a shower house near your campsite. Water spigots are also in or near your campsite. If you bring a water jug, you can cache drinking water in your campsite. You will find kindling and firewood in the surrounding area to keep a campfire going in a campfire ring in the campsite, as long as the Forest Service does not declare a no-burn day. The dining hall and program areas are within walking distance from each campsite, but prepare for some uphill travel. There is plenty of space for you to run around with existing friends and to make new ones. Frequently Asked Questions Q: When are uniforms worn? A: Morning and evening flag ceremonies. Q: Is dinner served on Friday night? A: No. We encourage you to eat before you arrive at camp. There are a number of locations in Angels Camp and Arnold where you can get dinner.

Q: Can we have a campfire? A: In general, yes. You will be given campfire rules when you check in, unless there is a reason to prohibit open fires due to dry or windy conditions. Q: Can we gather firewood? A: Yes, but make sure that it is dead wood on the ground and be careful that you don't accidently disturb animals under a large woodpile. Q: What is the food like? A: We get nothing but compliments on our food. We have a great salad bar, lots of food, and we try to accommodate all dietary needs. Please contact us a week in advance if you have a food allergy or a special dietary need. Q: What if we get hungry between meals or after a campfire? A: There is always peanut butter and jelly to make sandwiches, as well as fruit, in the dining hall. Q: Does the trading post have more than patches for sale? A: Yes, there are snacks, craft kits, some convenience items for camping, and other goodies in the trading post. Q: How do we contact the camp with questions? A: Contact the service center at or If a more detailed answer is needed, you could be forwarded to the event Camp Director.

Directions to Camp Wolfeboro Camp Wolfeboro is located on the south side of Highway 4 about 5 miles west of Bear Valley Village. If you are travelling westward on Highway 4, eventually you will pass the town of Tamarack about 2 miles before Forest Service Road 7N02. Skyline Drive, on your right is about 0.25 miles from the Forest Service road, which will be on the left side of the highway around the bend. Turn left, cross the stream, and park in the dirt lot. If you are travelling eastward on Highway 4 from the Bay Area, it is easiest to take the Highway 4 Bypass, take a left on Marsh Creek Road and merge back into Hwy 4 at Byron Hwy. When you get to Stockton, you can head through town on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, or follow Hwy 4 (north, then east, then south) around town. Either way, you will connect with Hwy 99, head south for a little bit, then connect with Hwy 4 on Farmington Road, headed east. Angels Camp will be about an hour away from the turnoff to Camp Wolfeboro. Arnold will be about 18 miles from the turn off to camp. When you see the Big Meadows Campground sign you want to start slowing down, as the turn off to Forest Service Road 7N02 will be about 0.25 miles ahead on your right. Cross the stream, and park in the dirt lot. Another eastward route has you taking Hwy 4 to Hwy 160, going over the Antioch (toll) Bridge. Travel to Hwy 12 and turn right. You will want to travel on Hwy 12 to San Andreas and Hwy 49, and then make a left turn to connect with Hwy 4 in Angels Camp and follow the last two sentences from the paragraph above this one. More seasoned travelers to Wolfeboro like to take the scenic route through vineyards and orchards on Peltier Road and reach Hwy 12 through Hwy 88 and Collier Road. Consult your favorite GPS or other map before trying this way.
