Welcome from Camp Eagle! Dear Parents, Welcome! My name is Caleb Barge, Camp Eagle s Adventure for the City program coordinator. Along with the rest of the staff at Camp Eagle, I am so excited for the upcoming summer and the great opportunities the Lord has provided for His Kingdom through Adventure for the City day camp. This is the program s second season, and we could not be more excited for the partnerships that you have made possible! Please take a moment to read through this handy packet created to give you important information about your camper s safety, experience and curriculum at Adventure for the City. Safety: Here at Camp Eagle, our first priority is the safety of all campers and staff involved in this great program. To that end, Camp Eagle knows it is critical to keep an open line of communication among parents, church staff and myself so you can feel comfortable sending your child to camp, so please note and keep the contact information at the end of this packet. Experience: We re packing up everything that makes Camp Eagle adventurous and impactful and bringing Christ-centered camp programming to students who are not quite ready for overnight camp. At Adventure for the City, campers can get as much of the Camp Eagle experience as possible while returning to the comfort of their own homes at the end of the day. Curriculum: Your Adventure for the City camper will join us in the 5th summer of Camp Eagle s 7-year walk-through of the Bible. Focused on the theme And the World Will Know, this summer s curriculum will guide students to engage with the books of the Bible from Isaiah to Malachi. Students will learn what it means to be a prophet and how to bring the Good News to their communities. Thank you so much for making Camp Eagle part of your family s summer. We look forward to all the fun and excitement and most of all to seeing what the Lord has in store! Caleb Barge Adventure for the City Coordinator 3
Camp Eagle Philosophy of Ministry and Mission Statement Our Mission Statement at Camp Eagle is to Inspire Christ-like change through outdoor adventure, authentic relationships and Biblical truth. We believe it is important to invest in students, to teach them the love of Christ and to help them get to know their Heavenly Father. Our hope is to make Christ the cornerstone of their lives now so they will grow up to be God-fearing men and women who proclaim the Gospel with boldness and grace. At Camp Eagle, outdoor adventure helps to build authentic relationships, and authentic relationships provide an inlet to engage with Biblical truth. We set ourselves apart by involving campers in exciting adventure activities such as rock climbing and drift trikes to help them grow mentally, spiritually and physically. These adventure activities take campers out of their comfort zones. They break the ice and become a stepping stone to build authentic relationships, something we believe can transform a camper s experience from merely fun and exciting to life-changing. Whether between your camper and a new cabin mate or one of our counselors, we want relationships built here to go beyond the week your student spends at camp to last a lifetime. Building authentic relationships allows us to present the Word of God more thoughtfully and effectively; those relationships give us as staff the opportunity to speak directly into your camper s life and walk alongside them and they develop into an incredible man or woman of God. 4
What to Expect Your camper can expect to experience the adventurous activities and engaging curriculum that make Camp Eagle great. A 40-foot rock wall, drift trikes, obstacle courses, a giant wet slide, Air Extreme, archery tag and more will arrive with us to your community. Along with exciting games and activities, we will bring highly trained and passionate college student staff members who share a heart for children s ministry and a desire to spread God s word. Our summer staff have spent three weeks in extensive training, going through our Child Protection Plan and a rigorous hiring process that ensures we have the best college students from around the country to make camp successful and safe for your campers. Rest assured that all of our summer counselors also receive CPR, Basic First Aid and AED training. What we Expect from You Preparation As parents, you have the important job of preparing your campers for time away from you for several hours a day for a week in a camp setting, surrounded by new people and activities. To help prepare your student and get the excitement flowing, please make sure you are talking to your camper about what they can look forward to as camp gets closer. Rest & Hydration Camp will be full of non-stop fun, so make sure your campers get a good night s rest to help them get the most out of camp. We make hydration a priority during the day by taking plenty of water breaks, but drinking water at home in the mornings and evenings is also very important. Lunch We ask that you send your camper with sack lunches each day. Please be sure to pack a picnic-friendly lunch and to label to sack or lunch box with your camper s full name. 5
What to Bring Water bottle Sunscreen Hat and/or sunglasses Bible Notepad and Pen Small backpack Tennis shoes or sturdy sandals Modest bathing suit (ass needed please refer to your daily send-home info packet to know if your camper will need a suit the next day) Flip flops and towel (as needed) Medication (given to medical personnel). Please update your camper s health form online with any medication brought to camp. What NOT to Bring Toys from home Cell phones ipads, ipods, or video games Money Pets Personal sports equipment (we will provide everything needed for camp) Weapons of any kind Arrival and Departure Sunday, our staff will attend church with you and set up a booth to meet and greet parents after the service. We will be happy to answer any questions you may have and can help out with last minute registrations. 6
Monday morning is when the fun begins! Drop off will take place between 8:00 and 8:30 a.m. at a designated location at your church. Just look for our signs directing you where to go! Our day will begin at 8:30 sharp, so please be sure your camper arrives in time to join their cabin group for the day s first activity. Pick-up will run from 4:30 to 5:00 p.m. each day at the drop-off location. If for any reason a camper must be early or late to drop-off or pick-up, parents must notify Caleb Barge or a member of the leadership team as early as possible. Please note that there is no discount if a camper misses part of camp. Authorized Adults The only person allowed to pick up a camper is the one who registered them. To allow others to pick up your camper, you must add those individuals as Authorized Adults in advance. You can do this during the registration process under the Authorized Adults section. A photo ID will be required every day to pick up campers regardless of who is picking them up. Parents Day On Friday between 3:00 and 5:00 p.m., camp will be open to parents! We want you to be just as much a part of camp as your camper is without you camp would not be possible. When you arrive on Friday, you will join in our regular camp routine by playing games, doing activities, worshipping and more. You will also be there as we hand out Cabin Awards, which the cabins groups compete throughout the week to earn. Finally, you will experience our closing ceremonies, a great time for you to hear what your camper has been learning all week and how you can continue pouring into them after we leave. If you would like to make an additional visit to camp, please let a staff member know ahead of time and know that you will be directed to sign-in at our front desk to gain access to camp. 7
Squirrel Bags Squirrel Bags are prepaid bags that we pack with fun and useful camp items such as shirts, Nalgene water bottles, sweatshirts, blankets, whistles and other Camp Eagle memorabilia. When you register online, you will see an option to purchase a Squirrel Bag with customized contents. We prepare these bags in advance so they are ready for your camper on the first day of camp! Important Information and Contacts We hope you and your camper are as excited about this summer as we are! The Lord is going to do amazing things through our partnership with you. With the summer sneaking up on us, be sure to register your campers sooner rather than later to ensure that they do not miss out on this great opportunity. With that in mind, feel free to contact your church sponsors or myself about registration or with general questions about camp. We are already praying for the summer and ask that you do the same! Thank you again for partnering and participating with us. We look forward to getting to know you, your camper and your community!
