This booklet is designed to give you an easy, self- explanatory guide how to set up our Jayco Eagle. It will be full of explanations and plenty of pictures to help you on your way.

Some of you may be taking a van on the road for the first time, so it is vital you make sure your vehicle is capable of towing and you are loaded correctly.

2 This booklet is designed to give you an easy, self- explanatory guide how to set up our Jayco Eagle. It will be full of explanations and plenty of pictures to help you on your way. If you are new to caravanning/camping or an old hand, there's plenty of tips we can all learn. Some of you may be taking a van on the road for the first time, so it is vital you make sure your vehicle is capable of towing and you are loaded correctly. The biggest mistake people make when towing is either overloading the caravan and or tow vehicle or incorrectly distributing the payload in the caravan. This picture is a simple illustration of how you should distribute the weight in a van. The Jayco Eagle is smaller than a full-size caravan and has a lower centre of gravity and is inherently more stable but you should always take care when loading the van. The Tare weight of the Jayco Eagle is 1005kg and the ATM is 1305kg which means the payload is 300kg and this includes any extras that come from the factory such as Gas bottle, Awnings, etc, so bear in mind how much weight you will be loading into the van before you head off. I don't suggest you have water in the tanks when travelling as this adds a great deal of weight to your payload. Every litre of water adds 1kg of weight. The Maximum Towball Loading is 131kg so, again keep the amount loaded into the front boot to a minimum. The image at right is from the Eagle's compliance plate showing all load ratings. Currently, all towing vehicles must not tow a trailer of more than 750kgs unbraked, so in other words this van is over the minimum and any vehicle towing it is required to have a brake controller. If your vehicle is not equipped with a brake controller, we have a portable unit that can be hired with the van for an extra fee. 2

3 HITCHING & UNHITCHING YOUR TOW VEHICLE 1. Once you have hitched the van to your vehicle connect the tow chains and make sure the chains are crossed over and not hanging on the ground. Plug the van into your car's plug and check your lights and indicators are working correctly. Next is to check the ride height. If the vehicle and van are on level ground, make a visual check the van is neither pitching down at the front or low at the rear. If necessary measure the height from the ground at thefront and rear of the van to determine the level. Also make sure the van's handbrake is disengaged before setting off. 2. Remove the jockey wheel and store either in the boot of the van or your car. At your destination replace the jockey wheel making sure the ridge on the shaft of the jockey wheel is located in the slot of the clamp. If you fail to do this it is very likely the jockey wheel will lose grip and the van will fall to the ground trapping your feet if you are unlucky. Also apply the handbrake of the van. Unplug the van from the car & wind the jockey wheel up and clear your car. 3

PLEASE NOTE, THE FEET ARE NOT TO HOLD THE WEIGHT OF THE VAN, THEY SIMPLY STABILISE IT, SO DO NOT PUT TOO MUCH PRESSURE ON THEM. 4. Next, undo the cleat on all 4 corners of the roof to enable you to wind the roof up. Then take the roof winder and wind up the roof making sure you DON'T over-wind the roof. Do the same for the awning and undo the bag and let the awning unroll. You can then continue to wind up the roof all the way. Just remember to do the reverse when packing up as it is a lot easier to do rather than at full height 6. Next step is to pull the beds out all the way. Then get the support bars which are underneath each mattress and locate them in the chassis and also in the bracket under the bed as shown. 5

6 7. Pull the canvas down around each corner and attach the velcro to the underside. 8. Open the tunnel, pull out the 2 pole bags and lay them out on the ground. Note the poles with the flat feet are for the outside awning poles. 6

Slide the roof support pole into position clipping it onto the horizontal awning pole as shown. Then clip in one of the footed poles vertically to support the roof. 7

8 11. Adjust the length of the roof supports and tighten. Repeat for all supports and attach the velcro tabs to the supports. 12. Attach the butterfly clip to the eyelet as shown in 2 corners of the van roof. Fold the tab around the van roof support and connect the velcro. Use the toolbox to stand on to reach the high spots. 8

9 13. Now go around all 4 corners and fold back the canvas and cover the van roof support and connect with the velcro tabs. 14. You can now go inside the van. First, pull the step out and lock into place. There's a roof support pole under each mattress. Locate each one in opposite diagonal corners. Open the roof vent if required but make sure you CLOSE it before packing up or in the event of rain. 9

10 15. You will note there is a wardrobe lying down. Stand it up (it's hinged) and lock it into place. 16. Now remove the plastic cover from the door hanging from the ceiling. Whilst supporting the door, unclip the door from the roof, swing it down and locate it into the mounting points on the bottom half of the door (the bottom half must be closed whilst doing this). Turn the clips vertically as shown so the door will swing open. 10

You don't need a lot of water pressure as the pressure will remain in the hose. Make sure you unreel the hose fully and squeeze out all the water in the hose before winding it up again. Use the Black rubber Flatout hose reel to connect the sullage pipe to the left underside of the van. Note- there is 2 pieces of rubber hose, one short and one longer. Choose which you need. The LPG bottle in the boot does not need to be switched on until you are cooking. Do not use the LPG for the fridge, just Electricity or Battery when travelling. 12

Once at your destination and connected to 240v power, turn the knob to the electricity symbol. All other controls do not need to be adjusted. We will endeavour to have the fridge connected to mains power prior to picking up the van to so the fridge will be at temperature for you. The freeze compartment is only small and does not hold a lot of food, however we have a Waeco 40lt portable fridge/freezer which can be hired for an extra fee Note- Make sure you turn the fridge back to the battery setting when leaving your destination. 22. The stove top has 4 elements, one electric, 3 LPG and a griller. It has a electric piezo for auto lighting but only works when the van is connected to mains power. 13

23. The beds are Jayco inner spring mattresses. There is a Queen and King single with extra sleeping when the dining table is lowered to accommodate another adult or 2 children 24.

15 25. When setting up the bed flys the corners are velcroed. Three poles are placed in the appropriate eyelet and use the guy ropes provided using the Ratchet drill to drive in the coach screws. 15

16 SETTING UP THE ANNEXE 26. Once the van is setup with the awning, it's time to get the annexe up. The 2 blue bags have the ends walls in one bag and the other has the long wall and the van apron. Remove all walls from the bags and select one of the end walls. One of the end walls has a door way which is the front wall. Take the sail track and feed it into the slot on the van as shown in the pic at left. Feed it all the way to the ground then wrap the tab around the roof support and connect with the velcro. The top of the wall has velcro which connects to the velcro on the underside of the awning roof. Repeat for the other end. The long wall also connects with velcro at the top and zippers vertically to the end walls. Undo the windows and door and roll them up as required. Connect the black vinyl apron to the base of the van using the press studs. 27. Lay the rubber floor matting out as required. 16

17 SETTING UP THE PRIVACY SHADES 27. The privacy shades are similar to the annexe but easier to setup. The grey bag contains 4 privacy shades, one for each end that are identical, one for the long wall and one for the kitchen side. Remove all shades and connect them with the velcro on the top of each shade to the velcro on the underside of the awning. The long wall goes on the outside of the awning poles. Use the bungee straps through the bottom holes and drill a coach screw into the ground supporting the bungee strap as shown. 28. The shade for the kitchen side is fed into a sail track on the van roof and is best done before the roof is at full height. This is a 2 person job, one to pull the shade sail and the other to feed it in the track. 17

18 SETTING UP THE PRIVACY SHADES 29. The privacy shade at the front can also be used as a verandah by using the extra poles in the bag and swinging the shade to a horizontal position. 18
