3 Introduction Welcome to Pacifica District s annual Camporee at the Firestone Scout Reservation (LAAC) in Brea on April 20-22, The excitement begins on Friday with the arrival of hundreds of Boy Scouts, Webelos, and adult Scouters. A number of theme-based (competitive) scouting skills events will open on Saturday morning followed by various fun afternoon events. A Campfire Program complete with skits, songs, and fun highlight Saturday evening. It all culminates in an Awards Presentation on Sunday morning. Theme In the spirit of Scouting concurrent with the 2012 International Olympics, we have chosen the theme for the 2012 Pacifica District Camporee to be: Units are encouraged to show their spirit by incorporating the theme into their weekend activities. The Camporee staff and Spirit Team will be promoting the theme throughout the weekend. 4 Schedule of Events SPLs/SMs, please plan to attend the Friday evening cracker barrel and pay attention to announcements for last minute changes. All times are estimates; there will be unavoidable delays that will impact the schedule. Staff will inform your Troop SPL of any time changes during the event. 5 Location / Directions The Orange County Pacifica District Camporee will be held at Firestone Scout Reservation. The Loma Linda / Wyatt campsite has been reserved. Camporee is scheduled for the weekend of April 20-22, Please do not arrive on April 20 th before 1:00 pm as the campground will be closed for set-up. All units are expected to checkout by Noon Sunday, April 22. Please contact the Adult Staff Advisor to request any deviation from this policy. Take the CA-22 Fwy. (East); Exit 14D for I-5 No. (following the freeway signs) to CA-57 No./Pomona; Merge onto CA-57 No. Exit 11 (for Tonner Canyon Rd.) turning left (East) at the stop sign at the bottom of off-ramp onto Tonner Canyon Road and continue on through the guard gate. Watch for the temporary O.C. Pacifica District Camporee signs. You will travel approx. 5 miles on paved road and another 1 mile on gravel/dirt road arriving at the Loma Linda / Wyatt campground. Please be aware of the reduced speed limits posted at Firestone Scout Reservation! LOS ANGELES AREA COUNCIL FIRESTONE SCOUT RESERVATION Exit #11 from CA-57 onto Toner Canyon Rd. (turn left (East) at the stop sign at the bottom of the off-ramp. 6 Event Map HQ: This is the Staff Headquarters. It hosts the SPL/SM Meeting, the First Aid Department, and the Security unit. Please bring your Patrol Flags, Golden Spoon, and Golden Pie Tin entries here for judging, or inquire with any questions or comments. Event Field: This is where all Morning Competitive Events will be held. It is also the location for the Archery, BB Gun and Troop / Webelos welcome area. IOLS: Camp of Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Training, an Adult Leader training program run by the Pacifica District Training Committee. Parking: Upon arrival, the Camporee Security Staff will direct you to the designated Parking areas (see above map). All vehicles must have an assigned Parking Permit and must face out to the roadway in case of emergency. Speed limit in camp is 5 MPH for safety and to reduce the dust / allergen level. Tour Planning Worksheet / Approved Tour Permit All units MUST have an OCCBSA approved Tour Permit upon arrival at Camporee. Upon request of the Camporee Staff, the unit leader must present their approved Tour Permit otherwise, the unit will not be permitted to enter the Camporee campsite or camp within the Firestone Scout Reservation. This Tour Permit must be posted and visible in your campsite for inspection at any time. Having a posted Tour Permit will also factor into your Campsite Inspection score. Page 6 of 26

7 Due to the large number of requests for Tour Permits, the Council Service Center cannot guarantee that the plan will be processed in less than 72 hours. A Tour Planning Worksheet must be completely filled out before a Tour Plan can be approved. All Tour Planning Worksheets must be submitted to the Santa Ana office for processing. Scout Shops cannot approve a Tour Plan. Please fax Tour Plans to (714) The Tour Planning Worksheet and Guidelines are available online! Simply visit the link below. Health and Safety (Medical Record) For Camporee, all units are required to have as a minimum, a completed Annual Health and Medical Record forms (Part A and B) for all participants. These may be inspected at any time and the Unit Leader must have them available at all times. Policy on Use of the Annual Health and medical Record: Medial Forms are available online! Visit this link to print your own: Attendance / Guests Admission to the camp and participation in scout events / activities is limited to registered members of the BSA Orange County Council - Pacifica District (e.g. Webelos, Boy Scouts, Scout Leaders and Council/District Leaders). Unit Leaders are to inform their invited guests that they are expected to behave according to the principles of the Scout Oath & Law, and adhere to Youth Protection Guidelines and Guide to Safe Scouting. Invited guests are to be advised to please stay with your Pack or Troop. Any persons who are not registered with OCBSA or are officially registered / paid as a participant of the Pacifica District Camporee or have permission from a participating unit leader or Camporee Staff Advisor will not be permitted to either enter the campground or camp overnight. Unit Leaders must provide a list of all invited guests to the Camporee Registration Staff upon the unit s arrival. Anyone who has not registered prior to Camporee is required to check-in at Staff Headquarters. Firestone Campground Rules BSA Guide to Safe Scouting : All units are expected to know and adhere to requirements established in the guidebook. Fires: Unattended fires or open flames are not permitted at Firestone Scout Reservation. Charcoal cooking is permitted with the use of proper equipment and if it is raised off the ground. Water: Loma Linda campsite is equipped with water. Water is located throughout the camp and may not be in each unit s camp. Each unit is responsible for hauling water to their camp and disposing of wastewater properly. Washing of dishes, clothes, or other articles is NOT permitted at the spigot locations. Scouts are not to play at water collection locations. Latrines: Port-A-Potties are located throughout the campsite. Each person is responsible to leave the latrine clean and usable for the next person. Any person violating the rule will be asked to leave the camp. Camp cleanliness: Each unit is responsible for keeping their camp and any common areas around their camp, clean and presentable. Personal Cleanliness: Each unit is responsible for the cleanliness of all unit Page 7 of 26

8 members. Camp boundaries: Camps will be individually marked. Units are to remain within the boundaries of the camp that they are assigned. No moving of the boundary markers is permitted without the permission of the adult advisor. Campsite: Scouts and Scouters must remain within the boundaries of the Loma Linda and Wyatt campsites. No hiking outside of the camp without the permission of the Camporee staff is allowed. First Aid: Be prepared to handle all minor first aid cases in your unit s area. First Aid emergencies beyond the capacity of your unit should be brought to the Staff Headquarters, Department of First Aid and Search and Rescue. All First Aid situations must also be reported to the Staff regardless of severity. Transportation: Transportation to and from camp is the responsibility of the unit. All vehicles should conform to State of California motor vehicle regulations. Vehicles should only be driven by licensed drivers 18 years of age or older, and have adequate insurance as required by the State of California. Under NO circumstances are passengers to be carried in trucks (except in cab), or outside of vehicles. Trash: Bag your trash and take it home with you for proper disposal. Our Neighbors: BSA and Firestone Boy Scout Camp enjoy good relations with our neighbors and ask units to observe Scout courtesy, not only to them but also to all persons en-route to and from camp. Damages: The unit is expected to pay for all damage caused by its members to the camp property or equipment. Strictly Prohibited: NO liquid-filled stoves or lanterns allowed. Absolutely NO alcoholic beverages permitted. Firearms and weapons of any kind also prohibited. Check-In Gates will open at on April 20 th at 1:00 pm. Participants should NOT plan to arrive before this time. Please be aware that we have hundreds of vehicles arriving and lines may form at any time. Our goal is to check you in and get you to your drop-off / parking area / campsite as quickly and safely as possible. Speed limit is 5 MPH in camp and will be strictly enforced. All Camporee packets contain a Parking Permit to be coordinated / assigned by the Scoutmaster to all drivers attending Camporee. This form must be completed in advance and placed on the driver s side dashboard (clearly visible) prior to arriving at the campground (controlled) entry gate. The permit must remain in-place while the vehicle remains in the campground. It is recommended that you arrive as early as possible to the Camporee opening time to set up your camp and begin your gateway / pioneering project(s). See the Camporee Schedule of Events for Staff safety inspection time(s). Upon entering the park you will be directed to and assigned parking area. There is limited time entry for vehicles carrying the unit s equipment to the campsite. There will be a designated unloading area for Scout drop-off. Units may bring wagons to transport personal camping equipment from the drop-off area to their campsite. Applied time limits are at the discretion of the Camporee Security Staff and will be strictly enforced. All Unit Leaders must turn in one (1) copy of the Scout Patrol Roster form and three (3) copies of the Unit Roster / Shooting Sports Permission Form to Camporee Registration Staff by the Friday night Cracker-barrel meeting. Both of these documents are included in this Leader s Guide. Wristbands, indicating permission for each of the individual scouts participating in the youth shooting sports will be distributed to each of the Unit Leaders at the Cracker-barrel meeting. 9 Check-Out On Sunday morning, units are encouraged to pack all their items and stage them at the front of their campsites, and have enough helpers ready and waiting for loading before bringing their vehicles to the campsite for pick-up. The goal is to minimize the traffic flow and the amount of time for loading in the midway area. Vehicles may begin hauling unit equipment from their campsite as noted on the Schedule of Events. The Campground gate will be re-opened for incoming and outgoing traffic after the Awards Ceremony on Sunday morning. Only one vehicle per unit will be allowed to drive from the parking area to the unit s campsite at a time. When your unit has packed and has checked to ensure the campsite is clean and all trash removed, you will need to have your campsite area inspected and approved by one of the Staff members on-hand. Once cleared you may depart. Stop at the Staff HQ to drop off your completed Camporee Critique form and to pick up your units Camporee patches before departing. Please maintain the posted speed limit on the outbound roadway (speed is monitored by the Ranger and citations will be issued). Fire and emergency alarms If the emergency alarm sounds (siren / horn / bell), all campers are instructed to stop whatever they are doing immediately and regroup at their unit campsite. Unit Leaders will take a head count. Unit Leaders will meet at Staff HQ to and inform the camp Staff of the status of their unit and receive appropriate instructions as required. ALL DRIVERS MUST KEEP THEIR KEYS WITH THEM AT ALL TIMES. Wilderness area warning You should be aware that this is a wilderness area. There are, among other things, wild animals native to this area including mountain lions, bobcats, coyotes, deer, raccoon, rattlesnakes, mice, spiders, ticks, ants, and mosquitoes. These animals/insects are wild and must be left alone. Some of the smaller animals can get into tents, packs, clothes, food bags, etc. Keep all food and scented items stored appropriately so as not to attract these animals DO NOT STORE FOOD IN YOUR TENTS! --- Be prepared to handle exposure to seasonal Poison Oak and Stinging Nettles. Parking / Traffic Safety (vehicles within the campground) Vehicles may be driven to the unit s camp to unload equipment. All vehicles are to be removed from the unit s camp by 8:00 PM, Friday or as directed by the Camporee staff. Drive Safely / Drive Slowly - Obey all posted speed limits within FSR Do not exceed 5 MPH within the Camporee campground and when entering / departing camp to minimize the dust level. All vehicles must be parked facing out to the access road as a mandatory fire safety precaution. The Camporee Staff may request you to relocate your vehicle, especially if it is parked in front of your campsite gate. If a staff member asks you to move your vehicle, please be courteous and comply with the request. There will be a few special purpose vehicles allowed by staff. Those will have passes. Page 9 of 26

10 Exceptions: One tow vehicle and one trailer may be kept in the camp. No Recreational Vehicles (RV s) are allowed in camp, except if required for a special needs person and only where designated by Camporee Adult Advisor / Security. Attire Class A uniforms are to be worn at all flag assemblies and the awards ceremony (not spirit rallies). Please note that we are interested in neatness, completeness and uniformity of Scout uniforms and patrol cooperation! The morning skills competition will be in Class B or appropriate themed attire. All patrol members are expected to be in uniform with each other; themed spirit items within the patrol are encouraged. Running cleats or special competitive clothing is not permitted. No inappropriate costumes or clothes are permitted (examples: Dolphin shorts, Swim suits, Female attire on males, etc...). Scouts must wear a shirt. No firearms, including toys, props, and replicas are permitted. Any such weapons will be confiscated. Scoutmasters should inform all Scouts / Scouters scheduled for OA Tap Out to be prepared in advance. Include warm (layered) clothing / jackets to be worn to the Saturday night campfire as the temperature may drop rapidly. Camporee Patches Special designed Camporee patches will be provided to each unit leader for each registered / paid participant (youth and adult). They will be available after the unit is cleared during check-out on Sunday. If additional patches are available, they may be purchased on a first come, first served basis Sunday morning during check-out. Temporary patches are worn on the right shirt pocket. Patrol Skills Competition (Webelos & Boy Scouts) There will be 2 divisions of competition, Webelos and Boy Scouts. Boy Scouts will compete against Boy Scouts, and Webelos will compete against Webelos. Webelos are encouraged to participate in all of the events, regardless of their skill level. The Webelos Patrol competition will be judged apart from the Boy Scout patrols competition. Webelos scoring will be based on Webelos skills as well as their Patrol spirit. Recommended size of a patrol is 5-8 Scouts. Remember electronic / scoring devices are not allowed at any event. Patrols must compete individually. There is no passing of information from one patrol to another. Scouts may not switch between patrols. Please remember to adhere to the Scout Law when participating in all scouting events and activities. Adult patrols will not participate in the Camporee Competitive Events. Judging The decisions of the Youth Event Staff and Camporee Adult Leaders are final. Any concerns must first be addressed between the Unit and Camporee SPLs and, if unresolved, between the Unit and Adult Staff Leaders. Please remember that Camporee is boy-run and they are doing their best to execute a complex series of events and your cooperation with them is most appreciated. Page 10 of 26

11 Morning Competitive Events All events will have a contingent of dedicated to Scout Spirit. Scouts will be graded on their yell, flag, uniform, 10 essentials, leadership and teamwork. Take the initiative to show your spirit and give us that patrol yell as you approach the check-in tables, it could add up for you! All events are Scout planned, run, and managed. Arguing, negotiating, or otherwise disagreeing with the youth staff may result in loss of spirit, disqualification from the event including the Presidential award and may result in your Troop being asked to leave the event field. Please act in accordance with the Scout Oath and Law at all times. Knots Tie all 7 standard Boy Scout knots and the 3 extra credit knots before time expiries. You will be graded on 1) the skill / quality of your knots & 2) the time you took to complete. Focus on quality, as this is a skill-focused event. You must tie all knots according to the 12 th Edition of the Boy Scout Handbook, pages 21, Knots: Square Knot, Two Half Hitches, Taut Line Hitch, Clove Hitch, Bowline, sheet bend & Timber Hitch Extra Credit Knots: Figure 8 on a Bight (Climbing Merit badge), Mooring Hitch (Rowing Merit badge) and Sheep Shank You will have up to 3 minutes to complete the standard knots and 1 minute to complete as many extra credit knots as you can! Obstacle Course Have fun with the obstacle course. This event requires at 6 members* of your patrol to compete. Your goal is to successfully complete physical and mental obstacles as quickly as possible. You need to be physically strong and mentally awake to succeed here. Oh and it never hurts to know your scout history too! Reference pages 60, in the 12 th Edition of the Boy Scout Handbook. You should complete the physical obstacles in under 5 minutes. You will have 30 seconds for each mental challenge. * If your patrol has only 5 members, then only 2 will participate in the mental challenge. First Aid Welcome to the 1st aid event! Your entire patrol will need to participate here, while we test your Tenderfoot to 1 st Class skills. In a moment you will enter an area where you will encounter various injuries and you will be scored on how accurate and proficient you treat these wounds. This event is judged on skill. Reference pages (Tenderfoot), (2 nd Class), and (1 st Class) in the 12 th Edition of the Boy Scout Handbook. Although this event is not timed, there is a 30 second time limit to answer questions. 12 Orienteering (Map & Compass) We will test your skills with a compass. The event will be set on a Line Course. No electronics (GPS, Phones, Calculators, Electronic Compass, etc.) allowed on the field. Scouts may only use materials given to them by the staff or that they might normally carry. You may bring your own standard compass. Height & Distance Estimation You will measure a distance and a height as assigned by the staff. Scouts may only use materials given to them by the staff or that they might normally carry. Reference pages in the 12 th Edition the Boy Scout Handbook. Kim s Game Come join us in Kim's Game, where we'll test your photographic memory. After grading spirit, you ll will have one minute to memorize the objects. When the time is up we will cover up the objects and your patrol will have three minutes to write down as many objects as they can remember. The Patrol that can remember and record the most items they see, wins! Pioneering For this event you will tie four scout lashings. You will have 6 minutes to complete this event, but quality and skill is the focus here! Don t forget to start and end your lashings with the correct knots! All lashings must be correctly tied according to the 12 th Edition the Boy Scout Handbook, pages Lashings: Square, Diagonal, Round and Tripod. The Tripod lashing will be used to construct your Olympic gadget. You ll use the Square and Diagonal lashings each to brace two legs together and lastly you ll use the Round lashing to attach a flag pole to your gadget. Raise that flag to signal you re done! Afternoon Events The adventure continues with the Afternoon Events. These non-scored events will be comprised of a combination of Staff, Pack and Troop run activities as noted below. They are meant for the scouts to join together and to have lots of fun. All events are purely voluntary and everyone is welcome! (Staff Sponsored) Capture the Flag Join us for a camp-wide capture the flag game! Scouts will be divided into two teams. SPLs must sign Troops up at Saturday Morning SPL Meeting; Scouts should meet at Bowl after the Afternoon Assembly. Tug of War Camp wide Tug of War. Join in on the Event Field! Page 12 of 26

13 (Pack / Troop Sponsored) Webelos Scavenger Hunt This activity involves Webelos visiting troops during the first hour of afternoon events to interact with members of that troop. Each Webelos den will receive a special tracking card when they check-in at Staff HQ to begin this activity. Each Webelos scout or patrol will visit a troop of their choosing with the intent of learning something such as a scout skill, or accomplishing an item that will help them towards earning a Webelos Activity Pin, or completing an Arrow of Light requirement, etc. All troops who participate should Be Prepared to make this activity meaningful and memorable for the Webelos. (NOTE: Further clarification, examples, etc.. along with sign up information will be forth coming to the Troops. This is a great way to get visibility with our Webelos and get them to stay in Scouting!) Jamm in in the Bowl We will have a live band. The activity is for those scouts who would like to listen to some great live music in the Bowl! Come and relax while enjoying some awesome music. Archery / BB Gun (Free Range) All ranges will be open from 2:00-4:00pm for free shoot. Usage is on a first come, first served basis. Delays There may be some unavoidable delays at certain events. Please be patient and move to other shorter lines if possible. Please remember that Camporee is a boy run event and the Scouts have put a lot of time and effort into planning and organizing the event. The staff takes the assignment very seriously and in an effort to ensure all Patrols have the opportunity to participate in all of the morning skills competitions they will keep the events open until your Troop SPL or Webelos Leader clears your Troop/Pack from the competition field with the Camporee SPL. Electronic Devices Electronic or GPS devices, even if incorporated into watches, cell phones, ipods, or any other such electronics is not permitted on the competition field or at the Scoutmaster competitions. If a Scout for health reasons requires an electronic device, it needs to be approved by the Camporee staff before, in advance of being at any competitive event. Loss or Damage of property is the sole responsibility of the person who brought it. Communication Devices FRS Radios are permitted however, Scouts and Scouters are to refrain from using the same channel / sub-channel as Camporee Staff. Interference with Staff communications will not be tolerated and Staff will confiscate any radio being used inappropriately. Be aware that there may be no cell phone reception in the camp area. Lost or damaged equipment is not the responsibility of the Camporee Staff or BSA. Page 13 of 26

14 Scout Spirit Scout Spirit is an important part of Scouting and Camporee. Scouts are expected to behave according to the Scout Law at all times. Behavior inconsistent with the Scout Law will not be tolerated. Only percussion (drums) instruments will be permitted at the event field and during assemblies. Any other instruments will be confiscated by the Camp Staff and returned Sunday morning. Limit 2 per troop. Feel free to use any instruments IN YOUR OWN CAMPS, but you must remember to be courteous to your neighbors. Spirit will be rewarded throughout the day with the presentation of small Olympic medals. These medals will be collected during the OA Serpentine and will count for a percentage of total spirit, for the Troop Spirit Award. Spirit Medals will be awarded for: Cheering others and showing scout spirit at all times Volunteering and supporting Staff as needed. Demonstrating through action, any of the twelve of the Scout Law Participating in all events and competitions including Scoutmaster Competitions, afternoon events and Golden Spoon and Pie Tin events. Promoting the Camporee theme Additionally, the Camporee Spirit Token will be awarded to one Troop at each rally based on spirit. The Troop in possession of the Spirit Token must embellish it by adding something to it before returning it at the next Spirit rally. Make sure you leave room for others that may follow you; it would be poor scout spirit to do otherwise! Reference page 30 in the 12 th Edition of the Boy Scout Handbook. Youth Staff Camporee is a youth led event and the Camporee Youth Staff will be managing and overseeing the majority of the event. It is important to remember that they do have final authority over Troop Leaders and other Scouts, even in Troop affairs. Please remember that they are volunteering their time to help put on this event for you. Any concerns regarding the decisions or actions of the youth staff should be brought to the attention of the Camporee SPL. Tips Some simple guidelines for the event: The more events that you participate in, the better chance you have of winning Presidential. Including all of the patrol competitions in the morning as well as the troop competitions such as Campsite Inspection, Pioneering Project (see the rules for your project), Scoutmaster SPL Competition, Golden Spoon, etc. When you check in, please give registration the troop number and the name of the patrols that will be competing. Here s a tip. Once you have established the names of the patrols competing, don t change them during competition on Saturday. This can greatly decrease your chance of winning Presidential. Scoring is based upon all of your scores. The better you are prepared the better chance you have of winning. Show spirit and team work, do not argue and bicker. Don t forget your patrol flag. There is a patrol flag competition. Be involved with the Theme of Camporee, including your clothes, props, gateway, Page 14 of 26

15 etc. Being Prepared includes your 10 Essentials. The basic 10+ Essentials include: pocket knife (totin chip, whittlin chip), personal first aid kit, sun screen, waterproof matches and fire starter, food, signal device, water, extra clothes, rain gear, compass, flashlight. Unit Pioneering Project There will be a separate competition for best Pioneering Project in a campsite. Things we have seen in the past have been a radio tower, a merry-go-round, a monkey bridge, a freefloating flagpole, and a dual tower campsite entrance. All of these projects are great options, but they are not automatic winners. Projects are judged for quality, not quantity. All lashings are to be used properly and knots tied securely. Use your imagination and remember to be eligible, the project must meet these minimum requirements: a. 25 poles and 20 lashings and only be made of lodge poles, rope and a maximum number of pulleys (4 or less). b. No prefabrication of parts or assemblies before arrival at camp for judged projects. c. No adult help during set up. d. Use only natural materials (Lodge poles, wood, rope, etc.) Examples of allowable exceptions: Pulleys, flags, theme-based decorations, Troop signage, anchor stakes and safety lines. Examples of what is not allowed: metal fasteners, zip ties, nails, tape, adhesives of any kind. e. Projects must be complete by midnight, Friday. f. Ensure the safety of your pioneering project (appropriate lashings / architecturally stable.) A violation of items a, b, c, d, e or f is grounds for disqualification from the event and for competing for Presidential. Pioneering Project Safety Adult leader knowledgeable in lashings must be present at all times during the construction. An adult leader certified in Climb-On Safety must be present when any youth is working higher than 6 off the ground. All stakes must be covered or blunted. Support lines must have safety markers. No climbing above 6 feet will be allowed. If a structure is more than 6 feet high then the entire structure will need to be assembled on the ground, lifted into place (using adequate safety lines / manpower), and secured safely. All structures will be limited to 20 feet in height, including flagpoles. Exceeding this limit will result in a scoring deduction of 10. If a safety issue arises that requires a Scout to climb over the 6 foot restriction, the Unit Leader must obtain authorization from the Camporee Staff Safety Committee and/or the Camporee Adult Advisor in advance, and the following requirements shall apply: o An adult leader certified in Climb-On Safety must be present when any youth or adult is working higher than 6 off the ground. o All projects must be properly anchored properly before ANY climber is authorized to climb. 16 o With any pioneering project taller than 6 off the ground, any participant in the project, whether builder or user, working higher than 6 off the ground needs to wear a helmet and harness and be spotted by an anchored belayer. o All climbers must wear non-skid shoes. o One person is allowed to climb on a project at a time. Projects must be completed by midnight Friday. The Safety Committee will continuously inspect projects for safety. Any issues identified by the Safety Committee will be handled according to the procedure noted above. Shooting Sports This year, we plan to host BB Gun and Archery Ranges. Subject to availability of Range master volunteers, the ranges will be open for the afternoon fun events. Both ranges are open to Scouts of all age groups, and all Scouts are invited to take part in this exciting event. All Scouts must wear the designated wristband in order to participate on any of the ranges. Wristbands that have been removed from the Scout s wrist are no longer valid. Registration Staff will issue all wristbands to the Unit Leaders after receipt of the units completed permission slip (attached). Webelos are encouraged to work on their BB gun belt loop as part of this event. Shooting Sports - Permission Slips (Required) Adult Leaders are required to have signed permission forms for each of their unit s members that are approved to use the ranges. A completed roster (attached) must be checked in with the appropriate designation for any youth to be able to participate. Patrol Flag Competition Show your Scout Spirit by submitting your patrol flags for judging. Entries must be delivered to the staff area; See the Schedule of Events for the proper submission time. Judging criteria is at the discretion of the judges. Golden Spoon / Golden Pie Tin Competitions This is an event to measure your Scout s cooking skills. This year there will be a youth and an adult competition. Youth entries should be planned and prepared by Scouts. Each unit should send their prepared dishes (enough to feed our hungry judges (approximately 6) to the Staff area for judging at the appropriate time (see Schedule of Events). A panel of judges will subjectively evaluate your dishes on the basis of best taste and presentation. Judging will include entries for main dish and dessert. The Award is based upon the overall entry. Scoring criteria is subjective and is at the sole discretion of the participating judges. A winner will be chosen to receive the coveted Golden Spoon or Golden Pie Tin Awards Webelos: Work with your adult leaders to create amazing dishes. We know you will need assistance executing, but the ideas should be yours! Scouts: Your entry must be 100% you adult can only assist if safety is at issue. 17 Important Note: Units are responsible to mark the bottom of their food submission with their Troop / Pack # and sign in your entry on a participation form. This will help us manage the collection and judging of your awesome dishes! Scoutmaster / SPL Competitions Competitions are scheduled during the day. Show your Scout Spirit and join in the fun of the challenge. You may receive Spirit Coins for participating, but it will not affect any other award, including Presidential. Order of the Arrow OA Serpentine is only for Scouts and Scouters, no family members or visitors are to be a part of it, Troops and Packs should be ready promptly at 6:30 P.M. at the entrance to their campsite to join the Serpentine. SPLs should have collected and totaled their Troops collection of Spirit Coins at this time, as they will be collected during the Serpentine. Spirit Coins should be placed in the Zip Loc bags provided at the SPL Meeting with the Troop number clearly displayed. OA Call Out: Scoutmasters will know in advance which Scouts and Scouters to have Be Prepared in advance, (including warm clothing taken / worn to the campfire). Anyone not called out or leading in the subsequent OA Ceremony are not permitted to attend or to visit the ceremony site during the ceremony. Scouts / Scouters are not allowed to bring chairs of any kind to the OA ceremony, please leave chairs and other equipment with your Troop if tapped out. Campfire Our annual Camporee Campfire Program is scheduled for 7:00pm on Saturday, to begin with our OA Serpentine as Troops are led to our Main Stage. All Troops are asked to contribute at least one skit to the campfire; this is not required but highly encouraged. In addition, our Campfire will also feature the OA Callout, and a Flag Retirement ceremony. To sign up for a skit, see the Master of Ceremonies at the afternoon SPL/SM Meeting, or any time prior to the ceremony at Staff HQ. Never retrieve arrows across the Firing Line until being told to so. 5. Always carry arrows in your dominant hand off to the side. 6. Never approach a target directly. Always walk to the side. 7. Only one Scout may pull arrows from the target at a time- all others must stand 6ft back from the target 8. Never shoot arrows anywhere other than down range. 9.
