2 DEAR PARENTS/ GUARDIANS: Since I started my career at the YMCA 28 years ago, there s nothing I ve known to be more life-shaping than summer camp. Camping, like many Y programs, is about learning new skills, developing character and making friends. In addition to traditional and specialty camp activities, we are uniquely devoted to physical activity and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics) education in each and every one of our programs. Few environments will foster your child s mind, body and spirit than at the Y. Our counselors are comprehensively screened and trained in CPR/First Aid, emergency preparedness, abuse and injury prevention, and other safety measures. What s more, they are prepared to give your child a well-rounded experience that they will cherish for the rest of their lives. A program fee is added to program members at the time of registration. Program members can take advantage of other Y programs all year. GETTING FIT FOR LIFE We re passionate about inspiring healthier habits that kids carry through life and so are our partners! Build Our Kids Success (BOKS) is an initiative of the Reebok Foundation with the mission to give kids a body and brain boost. The YMCA has partnered with BOKS to provide before-care activities combining play, team games, physical activity and short talks on nutrition, just like the Y s PHD program. The Y s PHD program will be offered in camp after care to keep kids engaged and energized all day long. 4 AQUATICS CAMPS AQUATICS CAMPS Aquatic camps are designed for beginner through intermediate levels. All lifeguards and instructors are certified. Depending on the swim level, activities may include stroke development, basic lifeguard skills, water sports, and traditional camp activities. In addition, campers may spend part of their day participating in landbased activities including group games, sports & fitness, hands-on science, arts & crafts and more! 5 LEADERSHIP/TEEN LEADERSHIP/TEEN At the Y, we help youth set and achieve their personal and educational goals. They gain confidence as they recognize the Y as a place where they belong and can feel comfortable exploring new interests and passions. A unique program designed especially for teenagers and a careful balance of program components has been created to foster creativity, adventure, peer interaction, leadership skills, values clarification and friendships that will last a lifetime. COUNSELOR-IN- TRAINING ACADEMY $130/$165 PRICED PER WEEK In this informative but fun leadership camp, teens will learn the in s and out s of what it takes to be a camp counselor at the YMCA. Every day campers will have short training sessions on running games, singing songs, leadership and teamwork. Teens then will have a chance to show what they learned in supervised hands-on training with our younger campers. CITs will be transported to our various camp sites for hands on training. So if your teen wants some preparation for a great summer job then this is the camp for you! Parents and CITS will have to attend one mandatory informational session before the start of the camp season to be eligible to participate in the CIT Academy. 9 SPORTS CAMPS SPORTS CAMP These camps offer a fun-filled sports environment with an emphasis on team work, sportsmanship, and basic fundamentals. Part of the day will be spent on your camper s sport focus where they will focus on stretching, warm-ups, skill and drills, educational games, and scrimmages. For the rest of the day, campers will experience all the other great activities the YMCA has to offer. Campers will create their next masterpiece in arts and crafts, explore nature and science, take a dip in one of our many pools, and so much more.
