Dear Wisconsin Forensics Institute Participant: Thank you for enrolling in the 2013 WIFI at UW-Whitewater! Our camp staff is busy preparing for a fun and challenging camp experience.

In advance of the camp, please review the enclosed materials. We look forward to seeing you on Sunday, July 28th, between 9:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. in Tutt Hall Residence Hall lobby for registration. Camp will conclude with a three-round tournament and banquet. Black Book. If your event requires a black book, please bring one. If you are not sure, no problem! We ll have extras. A jump drive is suggested. A notebook and writing materials. Swimwear. There will be optional pool time at night if the camper chooses to go. Bedding, pillow, toiletries. Fan. Residence halls can get very warm in the summer.

Main Street, Whitewater, WI The Tutt Residence Hall (pictured) address is 431 North Prairie Street. Should I know what event I want to do? Do I need to know my topic or have a piece selected? Students are strongly encouraged to have a conversation with their high school coach before attending the camp to ensure this camp preparation is aligned with the high school team goals and priorities. Some more experienced students will come to camp with pieces, topics, and events inhand. Students are strongly encouraged to come to camp as prepared as possible. Meanwhile, some less experienced students sometimes come to camp seeking help picking an event, piece, or topic. The camp staff will help students regardless of their experience or preparation. When is my balance due? Please pay the final balance, if any, by ten days prior to camp. Are the residence halls air conditioned? No. Campers are advised to bring fans. What is in the room? A room has two single beds, two desks, two dressers, and two closets. Campers should bring their own bedding, pillow, towel, and toiletries. How many people can sleep in the same room? Camp health and safety regulations allow for only two persons per room, each in a single bed. Can we bring snacks? Yes. Meals are included in the camp fee but snacks are of course permitted between meals. Residence Halls and campus buildings have vending machines. The University Bookstore has convenience items. How much spending money should we bring? Room and board costs are included in the camp fees. But students may wish to visit the University Bookstore or use residence hall or academic building vending machines. We also allow nightly pizza deliveries if desired. If campers wish to participate in these activities, additional funds are needed. Otherwise, there is little need for cash-on-hand. There is an ATM in the University Center.

5 How is the camp supervised? Campers are supervised by adult camp staff who also reside in the residence halls. We have a typical camper/staff ratio of 5:1. Are campers allowed off campus? No. Campers are not allowed off campus except under the supervision and permission of a camp staff member. Any request to leave campus must be in writing from the camper's parent and given approval by the camp director. If campers bring a vehicle, are they allowed to use it during the camp? No. Campers bringing vehicles must turn their keys in at registration and retrieve them at check-out. Parking is available for vehicles during camp. Do the campers have "free" time and what do they do during their free time? We do offer free time and organized activities outside of forensics, including a movie night and optional swim time. Students are welcome to bring a Frisbee, basketball, football, etc. to enjoy during free time. Are we allowed in residence halls other than the one assigned to our camp? No. Entering a residence hall other than the one assigned to your camp is grounds for non-refundable dismissal from the camp. Likewise, campers should not entertain guests who have not been cleared by the camp staff. Are parents allowed to observe camp activities? Parents are always welcome. Parents and supporters are especially invited to watch rounds at our camp tournament, as well as join us for dinner at the camp banquet. The banquet cost is covered for the camper, however, guests can attend the banquet for a cost of $10 each. Please RSVP.

8 Parents of Campers Under Age 14: If your son/daughter/ward will be under the age of 14 while at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, it is the State of Wisconsin Department of Health and Social Services policy that we collect, secure and administer any prescription medication brought to camp. Exceptions are only for a limited amount of medication for life-threatening conditions (e.g. bee sting, medication inhaler). Non-prescription medications or devices may be carried by the camper provided the Medication Consent Form has been signed by a parent or guardian.
