3 Welcome to Camp Cinema! I. Mission and Goals Mission: While attending the Camp Cinema Camporee, Scouts will learn how to make movies and work on the Movie Making Merit Badge, all while learning and exhibiting the very best of the scouting program. We hope to challenge Scouts to team build, communicate, teach others, and rise to various challenges all while having fun. Theme: Storytelling though Video and Movies The goals of this Camporee are: Develop leadership among Scouts Provide an environment for teambuilding Learn the patrol method Improve Scout Skills Demonstrate the EDGE method Meet Scouts from other Troops and develop friendships While this year s Camporee is not wholly centered on competition but rather on fun and creativity, we do ask that each Troop or Patrol visit all the stations spending an appropriate amount of time at each but also allowing other groups the possibility to experience all program areas as well. Please see the Activities section of this guide for a breakdown of activities and of the three competitions taking place during the camporee. II. Registration, Arrival, and Check-in Any scouts who have attained the rank of Life or Eagle should consider being a part of the Camporee Staff. This is a great opportunity to practice your leadership skills while having a good time. Any adults or Life or Eagle Scouts wishing to be part of the staff should the Camporee Directors, Karen Jamison (cheshirecat561@hotmail.com), and Chris Hersee (chris_hersee@yahoo.com). All troops should register using the online registration system at You can edit your registration once you have made it online. You can continue to register additional Scouts, Webelos, or Leaders. If you do not know the names of all your scouts that will be attending, simply enter scout one, scout two, etc. If you are registering Webelos with your Troop, please note your Troop number on their registration. You may be asked to host additional Webelos scouts who did not sign up with a troop if their pack is geographically close to your troop. Please note that after April 3rd a late fee applies. While we will make every effort to accommodate add-ons, we ask that you please be respectful of staff and volunteers and do not show up on the day of the event with large numbers of extra people as it does impact our planning process.

4 Camp Location th Ave, Trevor, Wisconsin Check-in Process As Troops arrive on Friday evening between 4 and 9 PM, the SPL or Scoutmaster should check-in for the whole Troop at the Camporee Headquarters at the Jadel Center prior to going to a campsite. Campsites will be assigned by the Camporee staff to Troops in order of arrival and by the number of scouts and adults registered. Campsite maps will be given. Patrols can set up well apart from each other but should remain within the confines of the Troop campsite. At the time of check-in, a troop roster should be turned in along with Medical Forms parts A & B for each scout. All registered, fully paid attendees will receive a wristband to be worn all weekend. There will be a Cracker Barrel at the Jadel Center to review the weekend s activities and programs for the SPLs and Scoutmasters.

5 Vehicles in Camp Troops may drive cars to the camping area to unload equipment on Friday evening but all vehicles must be parked in the lot near the entrance of the right side (south) of the Jadel Center by 10 PM. Trailers may be left at the campsites. On Saturday, vehicles will not be permitted in the campsites and there should be no traffic past the shelter unless new Scouts or Webelos are being dropped off. On Sunday morning, vehicles will be permitted to pick up trailers. Saturday Drop-offs and Pick-ups Scouts or Webelos arriving or being picked up during the day on Saturday should plan to meet their ride or troop at the headquarters at the Jadel Center. No vehicles will be permitted past this point during the day. Parents who are making a pick up should pre-arrange a time to meet the scouts since they will not be in the campsites for most of the day and may be difficult to locate during the activity time. Parents may inquire at the Camporee headquarters for directions around the Campground. III. What to Bring and Camp Rules Please make sure your troop brings your regular camping equipment. Also bring anything needed for the competitions mentioned in the Activities section of this guide. Each scout needs to bring their own usual camping gear including sleeping gear raingear, mess kit, water bottle, flashlight or headlamp with extra batteries, and work gloves (safety glasses optional) for the conservation project. No sandals or open toed shoes are allowed. Scouts will need a Class B shirt for Saturday during the day and Class A attire for the opening and closing ceremonies. Be prepared for the weather when packing clothes. Troops need to supply their own meals: Saturday breakfast, Saturday lunch, Saturday dinner, and Sunday breakfast. One hour will be allotted for the lunch on Saturday. The lunch should be quick to make and easy to clean up so as not to cut into the program time. For Saturday night, please be prepared to host two staff members for dinner. Each troop is encouraged to host Webelos who are attending the Camporee. Please provide them meals. As always, please be sure everyone in your group stays hydrated. Camp Rules Camp Code: The Scout Oath & Law will be the laws of the campsites & camporee. No check-ins before 4 PM Friday. A Troop Roster along with Health Forms Part A&B for each participant must be submitted at the Headquarters located at the Jadel Center upon entering camp & registering. All unpaid fees must be settled at this time also. No vehicle parking will be allowed at the campsites after unloading, although trailers and attached vehicles are allowed in the campsite. Off-loading equipment is permitted, then vehicles must be moved to the parking lot on the side of the Jadel Center. Vehicles will not be permitted to drive around or be in the campsites on Saturday. No personal electronic entertainment systems between check-in & check-out other than cameras or smartphones to be used for the movie making contest. Ground Fires are only permitted in existing fire circles. Generators are not allowed except during program times for power if needed to run a station. Water sources are only for filling water containers. They are not to be used for personal hygiene. No washing or rinsing of dishes or washing clothes is permitted at water sources.

6 Sheath knives, non-cooking alcohol, fireworks, firearms, or non-medically prescribed drugs are all strictly prohibited. No flames in tents. Use the Buddy System. Each unit must deposit their trash and recycling in the camp dumpsters on Sunday. IV. 7 V. Activities Camp Cinema Patrol Activities Once upon a time, in a scout galaxy not so far away, Movie Magic was made. Bring your imagination and sense of adventure! Be Prepared to have a fun-filled weekend! Everest (Climbing Wall) Climb on safely and being your quest to the Summit. Top Gun (Planes & Rockets) Fly faster, higher, further! Robin Hood (Archery) Aim straight and don t quiver. Angels in the Outfield (Baseball) Play 500 (fly ball 100 pts; one bounce 75 pts; grounder 50 pts). Jurassic Park (First Aid) A Tyrannosaurus bite! Poisonous spit form a Dilophosaurus! How will you treat them? Around the World in 80 Days (Orienteering) Decode a secret message using your compass or GPS device. Up (Fire Balloons/Fly Fishing) Take off, soar high, and fish! Tie-tanic (Knots) When is a knot not a knot? Learn why and how boat speed is measured. Into the Wild (Service Project) Blaze the trail and create a new path. Clash of the Titans (Tug of War) Is there strength in numbers, or will teamwork win? Daredevil (Disabilities Awareness) We dare you to be prepared to take on any challenge presented! Competition Activities The Big Picture - Troop Video Contest The Troop videos can be made ahead of time by the scouts or completed at the camporee. Troops should bring necessary equipment to shoot their video, although many videos today are produced with only a smartphone. The video topic should focus on any of the Camporee activities, a scout activity, or teaching a skill. Communicate how much fun scouting can be! The idea video could be used to show another youth or parent the excitement of being outdoors and being a Scout. Simple videos demonstrating scout skills such as setting up the campsite, setting up a tent, or preparing meals all tell the story of the scouting experience. Without stifling creativity, the broad judging considerations will be energy, creativity, how well the video captures Scout Spirit, and other criteria encouraged by the merit badge handbook on Moviemaking. Scouts wanting to work on their Moviemaking merit badge should bring a blue card signed by their scoutmaster and be prepared to discuss movie elements, techniques, storyboarding, and other requirements. Equipment brought to shoot videos, such as smartphones, should be used to produce videos and not be used for entertainment such as games, social media, etc. Justice League - Superhero Costume Competition Using the principles of reduce, reuse, and recycle, design and make your own superhero costume. Entries can be made ahead of time or at the Camporee where there will be a station for you to work on your costumes and some available items to use. Remember no store-bought items will be eligible. Costumes will be judged on originality, materials used, and creativity.

8 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - Movie Snack Challenge Utilizing your scout cooking skills along with your desire for a fun and tasty treat, make a candy and/or popcorn dessert to wow your troop and the Camporee judges. The creations will be judged for taste, originality and presentation. Please bring supplies for your treat with you. Bring samples for the judges to taste and your recipes to share. VI. Judging and Awards Troop Video Use your imagination and creativity in the production of the movie, but keep in mind the video must be appropriate, respectful, and in the guidelines of good scouting. As stated earlier, the video topic should focus on any of the Camporee activities, a scout activity, or teaching a skill. 9 VII. Checkout and Camp Cleanup On Sunday morning, we will have a nondenominational service and present our final awards, and then dismiss camp. After you have completely cleaned up your campsite, have the Scoutmaster or SPL come to the Headquarters at the Jadel Center to turn in your camp evaluation form and receive your troop s Camporee patches. Please deposit and waste or recycling in the appropriate bins. VIII. First Aid, Weather Considerations, Emergency Preparedness, and Contact Info There will be a First Aid station located at Camporee headquarters at the Jadel Center throughout the weekend. Health Emergency Please immediately report all adult and youth injuries or illnesses to our health officer at the Jadel Center even though it might seem minor or does not appear to be serious, including all heat or cold related conditions. Do not move the person if the injury appears serious. If necessary call 911 and let our Health Officer and a staff member know right away. Missing Scout If a youth is missing keep everyone together, notify camp staff, and quickly search the area where the youth was last seen. If the youth cannot be found after a quick search immediately notify one of the Camp Directors, the Health Officer, or any other staff member. We will sound a series of short horn blasts to call everyone to the Jadel Center to check and if necessary organize a search party to do a thorough camp wide search. When you hear a series of three short horn blasts, escort everyone directly and quickly to the Jadel Center for instructions. If the missing youth still cannot be found, we will call the local authorities. Buddy System Please utilize the buddy system or pair into groups of three to form a buddy system. Instruct scouts to always travel together everywhere to the program areas, bathroom, etc. Have them immediately report to you if someone from the buddy group becomes missing. Threatening Weather In case of a severe thunderstorm, lightning, tornado, hailstorm, flooding etc., take immediate shelter and if possible report directly to headquarters at the Jadel Center for instructions. Inclement Weather The camp program goes on rain or shine, except for unsafe conditions. If the weather report calls for rain, please make sure everyone is dressed appropriately but if the weather becomes threatening during the evening, we may close the camp early or not open camp at all. We will monitor weather conditions all day to ensure a safe and pleasant outing for everyone, but please notify camp staff if you hear of threatening weather coming our way. Camp Intruder Please notify camp staff immediately if a person who does not seem to belong comes into camp. Please make sure all scouts and their adult leaders and parents wear their wristbands while in camp for identification and security purposes. Note extra wristbands are available at headquarters. Also notify staff immediately if you notice any packages, lunch bags, backpacks etc. that seem out of place, out of the ordinary, or do not seem to belong to anyone. As a precaution, do not touch or handle it in any way but secure the site.
