2 You achieve an Award by completing a personal program of activities in four sections: Volunteering: undertaking service to individuals or the community. Physical: improving in an area of sport, dance or fitness activities. Skills: developing practical and social skills and personal interests. The DofE is Expedition: planning, training for and completion of an adventurous journey in the UK or abroad.

10 Equipment - Clothing Footwear Requires ankle support, Must be broken in. Make sure you have suitable socks Trousers Activity trousers NO DENIM

11 Equipment - Clothing General Clothing Thin layers thermal, t-shirt, microfleece Weather Full waterproofs sun hat-sun screen Light clothing to cover and protect. Winter clothing for the evening/night

12 Equipment School have equipment that students can borrow during the term when the expeditions run. Kit is expected to be returned clean and dry Broken Kit due to miss use will be charged a deposit will be taken of 25 Duke of Edinburgh have equipment recommendations If you are planning to buy equipment but are unsure please ask for advice

14 First Aid Kit All DofE students need to carry a personal 1 st Aid Kit All students should have had their 1 st aid Training and have received the DofE recommended list. You do not have to spend lots.

15 Navigation Walk Planning to do this after School in part of the training sessions. TBC Monday 5th March YR10 TBC Wednesday 7th March YR9 Local Circular walk of Approx. 5 Miles starting and finishing at school. Students will need to be in clothes suitable for the weather and their walking boots Require a day pack Snacks, 1 st aid Kit and water. Be back at school by 5.30pm

19 Qualifying Walk Approx. 15 Miles over two days Meet at School Shipped over in minibuses to Wendover walking to Braid Wood Campsite and Finishing in Chesham We will return students to school to be collected

20 Qualifying Walk Year th to 20 th May 2018 Year 9 Plus Squirrel Group (Year10) 30 th June to 1 st July

21 PHONES Students are not permitted to use phones over the weekends. Students will be allowed their phones with them but they should be turned off and in their bags for emergency use only. If found using them on the Qualifying they will not be able to count the expedition towards their award No GOOGLE MAPS!

22 Payments Final payment of 50 is due 27 th of April 2018

23 Volunteering Various Roles that will help Waiting at a checkpoint (usually a tea room/pub) Walking with students from one checkpoint to another to help with their confidence.
