2 TISCHER-Company Profil TISCHER Freizeitfahrzeuge GmbH (Recreational Vehicles Ltd), has been supplying slide-on campers all through Europe for over a decade from its factory in Bavaria and is now entering the Australian market. Originally founded by Josef and Peter Tischer in 1973, Peter Tischer took over the reins of the management of the firm from Josef Tischer in The company has been registered in the Register of Companies as a limited liability company since TISCHER has been specialising in the production of detachable slide-on cabins for pickups. Examples of suitable models are Holden Rodeo / Ute, Toyota Hilux / LandCruiser, Ford Ranger / Falcon Ute / F-Series, Mazda BT-50, Nissan Navara / Patrol, Mitsubishi Triton, Land Rover 130, VW Transporter, Iveco Daily, Fiat Ducato, Ssangyong Actyon Sports, Chevrolet Sierra and Silverado, Fuso Canter, just to name a few. The particular advantage of the slide-on campers is that they can be used separately from the base vehicle. The vehicles can be refitted for transporting the campers with a minimum of fuss and retain their dual use. Until 1990, the slide-on cabins were produced in conventional design, that is, the pickup campers were equipped with a lifting roof, insulated side, front and rear sections. From 1973 until 1986, VW pickups were almost exclusively used as the base vehicles. These recreational vehicle cabins continue to be very popular. A large additional storage area is located between the driver s cabin and the engine at the rear of the vehicle. From the 1991 model onwards, the TRAIL cabins have been produced in the modern sandwich design. The special feature of this model are that it can be fitted onto One-and a half and Dual cabs. The base vehicles with different cabins are exchangeable. Construction consists of sandwich parts with smooth, stove enamel exterior finish. Walls, roof and floor are insulated with 30 mm polystyrol. Interior cladding with 3 mm thick coated plywood. It is a tray-top camper. The advantage about this model is that it can be dismantled and easily placed in a shipping container by a fork-lift truck. This gives you the option of going even further afield on an exotic holiday, with the knowledge that both the cabin and the base vehicle are being safely transported. The detachable cabin consists of sandwich boards with an aluminium outer skin with a stoveenamel finish and fibreglass reinforced plastic aluminium on the front. The walls, roof and floor have all been insulated with 30 mm thick polystyrene hard foam panels. The interior surface consists of 3 mm coated plywood. Sound engineering and state of the art technology combine to guarantee top quality, stability and durability. A shower, hot water system and cassette toilet is part of the standard fitting. The sides must be dismounted from the platform wagon to enable the TRAIL 280 S camper to be mounted on the original platform. If required, a passageway into the driver s cabin can be in- tegrated by modifying the rear seat back rests. The passageway can be closed off by a door and synthetic sliding panel when the camper cabin has been removed from the base vehicle. The base vehicle without the camper cabin can then be used for private and commercial purposes. All models with a platform make suitable base vehicles. The TRAIL 320 S model has been designed for twin cab pickups from the Citroën, Fiat and Peugeot range. The selected vehicle requires a 3,700 mm wheelbase. In line with usual practice, only the pickup s side boards are dismantled and the camper is placed on the original platform facilitating fast and effortless set-up and dismantling. The large, family-friendly camper includes a group of seats at the rear, thereby deviating from the usual TISCHER basic design. The result is two separate, comfortable sleeping areas each accommodating two people, for enhanced comfort and privacy. A double floor creates additional storage space in the basement and an insulated and heated waste water tank is standard.
