1 Area VII Young Riders Annual Camp Returns to Inavale Farm, Philomath, Oregon June 27 July 1, 2005 Four full days of the most fun you can have with your horse! Caroline and Luigi Meneghelli are delighted to welcome us back to camp at Inavale farm. This is a wonderful opportunity for new or recently joined members to get to know other Young Riders in Area VII, as well as working with top instructors in jumper, dressage and 3-Day eventing. Camp is available to all riders from Beginning Novice level and up. We provide all accommodation and meals for the rider and stabling for their horses. This year we are also running a grooming program for NAYRC candidates and grooms. Camp instructors: John Camlin - Show jumping and x-c. We are delighted to welcome John back to camp; John has taught many students thru to upper levels of eventing, his students have trained with him from their first recognized USEA event on up to FEI level. His student Anna Collier was short listed for the Olympic Games 2004 with her horse Leopold. John trained with Jimmy Woffard on the east coast. Bea Di Grazia Dressage. Bea returns to camp a second time to teach you perfect dressage basics! Bea rode at the USET headquarters under Jack LeGoff She competed at the International level in England at Badminton and Burghley, and in Holland and Germany. She later earned her USDF Silver Medal in Dressage. Loris Henry Dressage. At camp last year, Loris offered a tremendous amount to riders in refining their dressage technique. Loris is a USEA official and dressage judge and she is exceptional at helping riders understand what a judge looks for in a dressage test. Morgan Carr Show jumping. We are pleased to welcome Morgan to camp for the first time. Morgan rode on the Lake Erie College IHSA Team, Team de Ville Jumper Team and received such honors as IHSA Zone Champion, Regional Reserve Champion and finished 3rd at the IHSA National Championships in Colorado. He continues to teach and compete hunter/jumpers on the A circuit at top West Coast and Canadian shows such as Spruce Meadows and Indio. Michele Pestl Show jumping and x-c. Michele was our YR Coach at NAYRC Michele started riding at the pre-training level and successfully competed through CCI** level. Michele has received coaching and training from some of the finest instructors, including Dietrich Von Hopfgarten, Angel Menendez, and Jack LeGoff. Anni Grandia Stable Management. Anni retired as our active Young Rider last year Anni has competed to FEI level and groomed numerous times on the NAYRC team before she went to NAYRC as a competitor in At camp, she will work with NAYRC grooms and candidates in correct grooming procedures for an FEI level show and help all of you with your stable management. Camp provides:

2 Instruction for four full days with 2 lessons a day. Full accommodation for you (a large sleeping tent for girls boys please bring your own tent). We did not have a big tent last year which went down very well for most of you however we heard from some that without the big tent it just didn t feel like camp. So, for those of you who do not relish the dorm experience: girls may sleep in their own camper/horse trailer or tent in the camping area.. For riders under the age of 18 your parents signature must be included in the appropriate box on the registration form if you do not wish to sleep in the big tent This year we are able to provide a 2 hot shower stalls. Fully catered with dinners provided by Bombs Away Café (Campers at 2003 at Inavale voted food the best ever) Stabling for your horse in portable stalls including straw bedding if you prefer shavings please bring your own. Swimming night at OSU in Corvallis. Camp Fee & Numbers (note: this year we have a set number of places at camp camp is filled on a first come first serve basis. After that, we place you on a wait list in case of cancellation) $570 for Area VII Young Rider members, $650 for non-members. Fee for a second horse at camp $450 for members, and $550 for non-members. Second horse at camp means you ride two lessons a day total one on each horse. What to bring: Sleeping bag, pillow and cot; plenty of shorts and T Shirts; your riding clothes crosscountry vest, helmet; swimsuit, towel and sun block; warm clothes. Your horse: all feed; feed pans and water buckets; tack etc., we provide straw bedding so bring shavings if you prefer. A sandwich lunch for Monday. To attend camp: please send your check payable to Area VII Young Riders, together with entry form, USEA Release Form and USEA Medical Release Form, your completed Area VII Young Rider Membership Form for 2005 and fee (if not already paid). 4 Please read the camp rules before you and your parents sign the registration form Camp Rules Area VII Young Riders Annual Camp at Inavale Farm, Philomath, Oregon June 27, - July 1, 2005 Camp organizers wish to foster a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere at camp. To this end, rules are simple and few and have been developed for the safety and well being of all campers. Any questions or clarification regarding camp rules, fees, arrival and departure dates, directions etc. may be addressed to Tessa Arlen at 1. These rules are for the duration of camp only. From start of camp which is NOON on Monday June 27 NOON Friday July 1. Anyone arriving early or the night before camp will be unchaperoned, unfed and unhoused. 2. Camp is an educational youth camp for all Young Rider members and is chaperoned by appointed parent volunteers only. 3. Parents and other family members are not invited to attend camp the purpose of camp is for YRs to get together in a non-competitive environment to relax, ride and have fun together, away from their families. If parents wish to observe lessons, during the day at camp, they may do so for a $40 per day audit fee. All parents observing lessons at camp must remain at a respectful distance from YRs and may not involve themselves in camp activities. Parents are not invited to stay at the farm overnight or join YR campers for meals or any activities. 4. No children (sisters, brothers, cousins or friends) may attend camp unless they are registered YR participants. 5. Any Young Rider member may attend camp if they are able to look after themselves and their horse without help. 6. Helmets will be worn at all times when riding and cross-country vests will be worn for x-c. 7. All Young Riders are asked to remain on site for the full duration of camp and not to leave even if accompanied by parents except in a family or medical emergency and with the permission of the Camp Coordinator. Anyone failing to do so will not be re-admitted. 8. Any Young Rider inviting outside guests or friends to visit the campsite from Noon June 27 until Noon July 1, will be asked to leave immediately. 9. Young Rider Camp is an educational youth camp any YR member smoking, drinking alcohol or using other illegal substances will be sent home directly and their membership with Young Riders terminated. 10. Any YR attending camp may not leave camp YRs over 18 may not leave camp either. Campers may not drive on the facility or off the facility between NOON on Monday June 27 NOON Friday July Any YR member attending camp who is sent home for misconduct or for leaving camp will not be refunded any camp fees or membership dues. 12. Sleeping accommodation is clearly defined: only riders with parental permission may sleep in heir own tent/horse trailer/camper all other riders will sleep in the large tent provided. 13. We hope to organize a couple of hours of swimming at camp weather and facility permitting. Parents who wish to authorize this activity do so by signing the registration form

5 GROOMING FOR NAYRC Grooms leave for NAYRC in Lexington, Virginia on July 24 and will return after the competition on August 1. Dates of competition are: July 26-August 31, If you would like to be part of the team to Virginia this summer as a groom, please complete the form and return it to Tessa with your camp registration. Please complete and return even if you have written a groom letter to Tessa. Anyone who wishes to groom must come to camp we offer 4 partial scholarships a year of $ and those who wish to groom are eligible for financial aid please call Tessa Arlen at if you would like to find out more about our scholarship program. We are accepting groom applications right up until camp. Anni Grandia one time NAYRC competitor and many time NAYRC groom - will be at camp to help our NAYRC candidates: both riders and grooms, to prepare for NAYRC this summer. Grooming for an FEI level show is not like grooming for Horse Trials. It is vital that horse and rider are well presented and well groomed. Anni will address some very important specifics such a sew-in braids, detailed tack cleaning, correct tack and the correct attire for rider and horse. She will also address issues such as long distance hauling, competing horses in hot and humid weather and answer questions about stall management, passports, FEI flu vaccine requirements. When the team is selected, grooms will be notified if they have qualified for a place on the team.
