4 MISSION STATEMENT The missin f the By Scuts f America is t prepare yung peple t make ethical and mral chices ver their lifetimes by instilling in them the values f the Scut Oath and Law. "That the purpse f this crpratin, Grand Canyn Cuncil, By Scuts f America, Inc., shall be t prmte, thrugh rganizatin, and cperatin with ther agencies, the ability f bys t d things fr themselves and thers, t train them in Scutcraft, and t teach them patritism, curage, self-reliance, and kindred virtues, using the methds which are nw in cmmn use by the By Scuts f America. In achieving this purpse, emphasis shall be placed upn its educatinal prgram and the aths, prmises, and cdes f the Scut prgram fr character develpment, citizenship training, mental and physical fitness. Article I, Sectin 3 in the Charter and by-laws f the By Scuts f America. WHAT IS CUB SCOUT DAY CAMPING? NATIONALLY ACCREDITED CAMPING STANDARDS BSA has established natinal standards The By Scuts f America has established natinal standards s that each cuncil may appraise its facilities, equipment, staff, service and prgram. The standards must be met, whether r nt the day camp facilities are wned by the cuncil. Cub Scut Day Camp has met these standards every summer! CUB SCOUT DAY CAMP - Ideally encurage participatin f den and pack leadership t strengthen packs s their bys benefit and grw with a gd utdr experience. The daily prgram is centered n Cub Scut fun, safety, achievements in the utdr camping setting. 1. Day camp is FUN with a purpse! 2. It prvides cntinuatin f the Cub Scut prgram thrugh the summer. 3. Helps the bys maintain their interest and needs. 4. Helps prvide a pack the pprtunity t earn the Natinal Summertime Award. 5. Assists in recruiting, training, and inspiratin f present and future Cub Scut Leadership. 6. Assists in the prgressin frm Cub Scuting t By Scuting. 7. Day camping is living in a natural envirnment. 8. The number ne aim is t help packs be successful. 9. Day camp helps strengthen den and pack rganizatin fr better year-rund rganizatin. 10. 5 ADULT LEADER Shall be an adult 21 years f age r lder f well-knwn character and ability. WHAT SHOULD THE LEADER DO? 1. Be respnsible t the camp staff. 2. Help Scuts and help in prgram areas. 3. Assist and supervise the bys in the den. 4. Teach an appreciatin fr the utdrs. 5. Recmmended training- Yuth Prtectin, Safe Swim Defense 6. HAVE FUN! HOW DOES THE ADULT LEADER DO CAMP? 1. Adult Leaders are required t register and wear a free wristband r purchase a prgram shirt at Headquarters. 2. Be n time with yur den t pening and clsing ceremnies. Use yur Den Ntebk. 3. Attendance sheets are due at the end f the 1st rtatin f each day. Mst Dens turn them in befre the first rtatin. Please turn them in at Headquarters. 4. Assign each participant and Den Chief a buddy. Buddy checks will be cnducted at every rtatin. D a head cunt each time the den arrives at a different prgram area. 5. Fllw psted prcedure fr missing by if cunt is nt crrect. 6. G ver the schedule with bys at start f each day. 7. Escrt yur den frm place t place. Encurage singing and games such as hw many different bugs seen r maybe leaves as yu mve frm ne statin t anther. 8. Prevent dangerus actins such as rck thrwing, walking bareft, rck climbing, etc. 11. If minr first aid is needed, escrt yuth and his buddy t First Aid lcated at Headquarters, after the rest f the den has been take care f. 12. Maintain cntrl ver the Den. Reprt any prblems yu cannt handle t Headquarters and Camp Directr. 13. Check each by ut f camp each day. If yu must leave befre all f yur bys left, ntify the Headquarters Directr. 14. Cell phnes are nly allwed at Headquarters. Please understand that yu are there t mnitr and help the bys s we ask that yu make any emergency calls at Headquarters. 15. DEN CHIEF RESPONSIBILITIES Requirements: Served with their Den during this past year and has a letter signed by the Scutmaster brught t camp. Remember: They are a leader, nt a camper. They cme t camp t help bys wh are having difficulty with crafts r rules fr games. They set the example fr the bys in yur den. Sme day they will be By Scuts and will remember the help they received frm a Den Chief. Live up t the Scut Law. Take rll call every mrning. Mark the "IN" bx fr each by in yur den. Turn the attendance sheets int Headquarters by the end f the 1 st rtatin. Help yur den design a den flag. Help yur den make up a den yell r cheer. Encurage yur den t answer mrning rll call at pening with the den yell. Help yur den make up a skit fr clsing ceremnies. Help yur den leader keep track f where every by in yur den is. Encurage fair play and gd sprtsmanship - be gd winners as well as gd lsers. If yu have any prblems at all cntact the Headquarters Directr. Keep a sng r shrt game ready in the back f yur mind in case yu have t wait t start an activity. Check at HQ fr resurce bks and materials. At the end f each day, each by must be signed ut n the rster. Help yur den leader clean up the den site at the end f the day. During the day, yu shuld encurage yur campers t keep the area clean and t pick up trash arund the camp. 6

11 The fllwing are included in the fee: Camp Shirt, Camp hat, camp patch Certificate All Prgram supplies Camp envirnmental fees FEES SHOOTING RANGES Intelligent, supervised use f sprting gear such as archery, air guns and wrist-rckets are cnsistent with ur principle f "safety thrugh skill". Apprval nw has been given fr archery, BB gun, sling sht safety and marksmanship prgrams in Cub Scut Day Camps. Cub Scuts are nt permitted t use any ther type f handgun r firearm. These shting sprts shuld nt be cnducted utside f a Natinally Accredited Camp. SAFETY AND MARKSMANSHIP PROGRAM BB gun (rifle) safety and marksmanship fr prgram use in Cub Scut Day Camp requires a BB gun Range Safety Officer wh has been certified by the lcal cuncil with the help f a Natinal Camping Schl certified Shting Sprts Directr r NRA instructr. WHAT YOU COULD EARN AT CAMP A list will be prvided f all the awards, achievements that the yuth culd pssibly earn during camp. The leaders will need t check ff what their yuth have earned and reprt t their units. 11

13 CUB SCOUT DAY CAMP EMERGENCY PROCEDURES In case f a MAJOR ACCIDENT r HEALTH EMERGENCY invlving camp participant and/r staff, the fllwing steps will be taken! 1. Tw runners r a call n the radi will be sent t Headquarters. The Camp Directr, Prgram Directr and Medic will respnd t the area. 2. The prgram staff will maintain rder in their areas and cntinue with camp activities. 3. If the Medic, Camp Directr, r Ranger determines that further emergency persnnel r equipment is required, they will call 911 and request apprpriate rescue service. One persn will be sent t the entrance f the site and will direct emergency persnnel t the accident scene. 4. The cuncil ffice, will be ntified by the Camp Directr r Prgram Directr f the parties invlved and the circumstances surrunding the accident as sn as pssible. Ntificatin f the parents will be made by the cuncil staff. 5. If evacuatin f the accident victim r victims is necessary, at least ne staff member in pssessin f apprpriate medical release frms will accmpany the injured t the hspital. 6. The Camp Directr will see that an incident reprt is made f the accident as sn as practical after the ccurrence f the accident within 48 hurs. 7. If the press becmes invlved, nly cuncil prfessinals shall release statements. 13

Drink lts f water; abut 1 cup every 15 minutes. Wear lightweight, light clred, lse-fitting clthes. Avid alchl, caffeinated drinks, r heavy meals. Symptms f Heat Exhaustin Headaches, dizziness, lightheadedness r fainting. Weakness and mist skin. Md changes such as irritability r cnfusin. Upset stmach r vmiting. What t D fr Heat-Related Illness Call/send fr First Aid at Headquarters r the Pl immediately. While waiting fr help t arrive: Mve the persn t a cl, shaded area. Lsen r remve heavy clthing. Prvide cl drinking water. Fan and mist the persn with water. If yu bserve any f yur Scuts with ne r all f these signs abve and they are nt perspiring, please spray them dwn wi t h the spray bttles and send smebdy immediately t get help frm First Aid. Be alert fr the Scuts that want t sit dwn t rest. 14
