Cost for this lunch is included in the registration cost of Rangerfest. Punctuality - Please be on time and do your best to follow the schedule. We promise to do our best to do the same! It is important for your Outpost to be at all events on time, especially the evening service. This is so we do not take away from the movement of the Spirit while we are entering into worship.
4 Old Time Pow-Wow - Events During Rangerfest / Old Time Pow Wow your boys will be tested on several skills that a boy would need to know while living on the American frontier. Hawk and Knife A popular competition of frontiersmen was throwing tomahawks and knives. At Rangerfest all boys will be tested throwing hawks. Adventure and Expedition will also be tested in their ability to throw a throwing knife. Discovery boys will also have a special test of skill. Archery Archery and primitive cultures went hand in hand. At Rangerfest all boys will be tested in their archery skills, with both primitive and modern weapons. Firecraft Think about a fish you just caught in the river. Do you want to eat it raw? If not, frontiersmen needed to know how to build a fire. All boys will be tested as a team of two or three boys on their ability to build an effective fire using a modern magnesium fire starting tool, char cloth, tinder, kindling and fuel. Firing Range All boys will shoot either BB guns, Air Rifles, or.22 Caliber Rifles (depending on their age groups) as a measure of their skill with a rifle to feed their family. Canoe skills Lakes and rivers were the highways of the frontier. Every single boy needed to know how to use a canoe to transport themselves and goods on the highways of that time. All boys will find themselves in a canoe at least once during Rangerfest! Be ready! Main Event : The Seneca Run Indians and Frontiersmen alike had all sorts of tests of skill, bravery and toughness that served as rites of passage into manhood. During Rnagerfest all boys will take part as a team and complete the Seneca Run. This will incorporate several Frontier skills, a little concentration, a few sore muscles and even some sweat. OUTPOSTS DO NOT NEED TO BUILD ANYTHING FOR THIS EVENT! Other Outpost Events These events earn points for your outpost! Campsite Evaluations: See the CAMPSITE AND CAMPCRAFT INSPECTION SHEET at the end of this packet. Camp Entryway: Here s your outpost s chance to shine and earn some big points! This is the only thing you need to build ahead of time for Rangerfest. The entryway must be Frontier themed and will be judges upon: most original content, best use of materials, and highest level of creativity! The entry way must clearly identify who you are, and where your group is from. The maximum demensions are 20 wide by 10 height. LIVE Skit (Formerly a Spoof Video): This will be a live performance of your skit at the beginning of the Saturday evening service. The skit will be judged by most original content, best portrayal of the message, and just overall level of good clean fun! There is a 3 minute time limit on skit. One skit per outpost is allowed. Your Outpost must be signed up by the end of the Friday morning rally so we can schedule the skits!
5 Things You Need To Know: 1. Senior Patrol Leader Every outpost needs to have one Senior Patrol Leader (SPL), regardless of his age. If all your outpost has is Discovery Rangers, then he will learn a ton and have a great opportunity to see leadership as portrayed by the older boys. It is our job as Royal Ranger leaders to mentor a boy and encourage him to lead. We will continue to challenge the SPL for each outpost and will contiunue to expect great things from him, because we know he is capable of great things in Christ! 2. Joint Patrols Outposts will be combined to form Joint Patrols. Each Joint Patrol may have multiple Senior Patrol Leaders, and that is OK. 3. Volunteering to Help Run Events We will always need commanders to help run events. During the opening rally we will meet and anyone able to help with an event will receive an information packet about that event so that he can immediately begin to see what that event entails. Remember that this is our Rangerfest and it is only what we make it. We will always strive to design an action packed, functional schedule of events but without men stepping up to help us out we simply cannot run the events. 4. Footwear Flip flops are not recommended for daily footwear during the events. Tennis shoes or boots will be fine. 5. What skills do my boys need to know? Each boy may be tested at some point during Ranger Fest over the following: a. Royal Ranger knowledge Current National Commander, First National Commander, the years that Royal Rangers and FCF were founded, Royal Ranger pledge, code, emblem and the Golden Rule. b. Lashing skills Each boy should have a working knowledge of basic lashing skills. See Discovery Lashing merit for further information. c. Knots Each boy may be tested on their ability to tie the following: Square knot, Figure Eight knot, Sheetbend, Clove hitch, Two half hitches, Taut line hitch, and Bowline. See Discovery Ropecraft and Adventure Camping merits for further information. d. Firecraft skills Your boys will need to make a fire as a team of two or three boys. They will be provided with a modern Flint and steel as well as char cloth, tinder, kindling and fuel. e. Canoeing skills Your boys will be operating canoes. They will wear life jackets. Reassure them that they will not drown. Try to familiarize them with basic canoeing prior to Rangerfest. f. Firearms Safety We will have firing ranges for each age group. We understand that every boy won t have his firearms safety card but please review basic safety rules with them prior to Rangerfest. g. Hawk and Knife Your boys will be TESTED on their ability to throw hawks and knives. Please try to teach this merit or at least review it PRIOR to Rangerfest. The boys will enjoy it more if they are well trained prior to doing in front of a larger audience.
