1 HZS Field Spectroscopy Kit General Description The HZS Field Spectroscopy Kit is designed for hazmat responders, military, police or forensic personnel to enable: hands free carrying of portable Raman and FTIR instrumentation under hazardous and non-hazardous conditions collection and manipulation of liquid and solid samples coming from loose or packaged sources adequate introduction of the samples to the on-site Raman and FTIR analysis on-site and off-site transport of the samples. The HZS Field Spectroscopy Kit is the complete solution built upon the experience from the critical international missions in Syria, Iraq and Libya. The kit is delivered in a shockand water-proof transport case. The HZS Field Spectroscopy Kit is delivered in a shock- and water-proof transport case. 1

2 Sampling tools and analytical instrument (FTIR, Raman) are field carried by the featured one-strap backpack made of waterproof and wear resistant material. One strap backpack carrier design provides: Hands free for the user operating in potentially hazardous areas. Accessibility - the single strap design allows the bag to quickly swing to the front of the body for access, even when wearing individual protective equipment. The single operator can use the kit without the need to place it on a potentially contaminated surface. It weighs less than a two-strap backpack, while retaining the full capacity. It is easy to carry and less painful for neck, shoulders and back. An easy, one-click mechanism for release of the backpack. In air operation of the HZS Field Spectroscopy Kit under potentially hazardous conditions: a quick swing of the one-strap kit carrier to the front of the body for access to the sampling tools or Raman instrument. 2

3 The sample collection and manipulation tools are carefully selected, majority made of nonsparking and non-magnetic materials and disposable. The tools come in the sealed packages with the optional cleanliness statement for evidence collection cases. The sample blade spatula: a long, ergonomically-shaped handle with sharp blade penetrates directly into containers such as paper and plastic sacks; the spatula shape is ideally designed for sampling powders, granulates and pastes; a transparent sealing sleeve is provided for closing the tool after sampling. The spoon spatula: a double spatula with a 0.5 ml spoon and a 17 mm blade that serves as a scrapper. 3

5 Liquid sample collection: a disposable, graduated pipette (left); microcapillary tube (right), ideal for transfer of low volumes of sensitive or highly toxic samples to the FTIR sensor. Liquid sample collection: a swab with a long wooden handle for application of less-volatile liquids and pastes to the FTIR sensor. Two types of primary sample storage containers are available for liquid and solid samples, both compatible with the Raman analysis adapters. 5

6 Primary storage container: the X-bag suited for a Raman screen of low amounts of solid samples. Primary storage container: a vial suitable for storage, transport and Raman screen of solid and liquid samples. The primary sample storage container can be sealed, placed in an evidence bag, and finally over packed in the secondary transport container containing adsorbent holder made of activated carbon foam. The package is chemically resistant, leak proof and suitable for the most of the hazardous substances. These include: Flammable Liquids (Class 3); Flammable Solids (Class 4); Oxidizing Agents (Class 5); Peroxides (Class 5); Toxics (Class 6.1); Infectious Substances (Class 6.2); Some Radioactives (Class 7); Most Corrosives (Class 8). A cardboard kit is provided for transport of the container off-site. The container kit can be used as a secondary packaging under ICAO/IATA Packing Instruction 620 for Infectious Substances and under IATA Packing Instruction 650 for Diagnostic Specimens. The container is made of plastic with a screw top with O-ring sealing. A special foam insert impregnated by active carbon is provided to keep the samples in place and adsorb contamination arising from the samples. A tactical utility pouch is provided for safe and hands-free transportation of the primary container on site. 6
