1 HPRD Summer Camp 2016 *Week 1: May 31-June 3 Heroes Week Join us as we celebrate Heroes at HPRD summer camp! We will enjoy a week at camp doing fun activities & will be having a few HEROES visit. We will be celebrating ALL HEROES from comic book to our real life heroes! Dress like your favorite HERO on Thursday. No Field Trip this week *Week 2: June 6-10 Safari Week Join us for a wild time, as we explore a jungle of fun at HPRD camp! Wear your favorite safari gear on Thursday. 1 st Field Trip: June 7, Catty Shack Wildlife Sanctuary Departure Time- 9:30am 1

2 *Week 3: June Western Week Cowgirls & Cowboys put on your boots and bring your lassoes for western week! Dust off yer hats and get ready to horse around at camp. Campers will enjoy a week filled with games & may even learn a line dance or two. See ya there partner. Make sure to wear your favorite western attire on Thursday. 2 nd Field Trip: June 14, Movies & Park Departure Time- 9am *Week 4: June Sports Week HPRD campers will spend the week cheering on our favorite teams, playing our favorite sports, and displaying our spirit all over camp. Throw on your favorite team colors Thursday & be ready to play. You could be the next HPRD star. No field trip this week. 2

3 *Week 5: June 27- July 1 Disney Week At camp this week we re gonna Let it GO and have some fun. Hakuna Matata parents, we ll be safe! This week we ll be watching some of our favorite Disney movies & reading some of our favorite Disney stories, & living Happily Ever After! 3 rd Field Trip: June 28, Jacksonville Zoo & Gardens Departure Time- 8:45am *Week 6: July 5-8 Holiday Week Christmas in July, 4 th of July? Halloween in the summer Make sure you come to camp & find out about all our holiday celebrations & join us for a week of holiday cheer. Wear your favorite Holiday outfit on Thursday. 4 th Field trip: July 5, Movies & Park Departure Time: 9am 3

4 *Week 7: July Decades Week Have you ever wondered what it was like in the 70 s, 80 s, or 90 s? Come to camp and see into the past. What games did people play? How did they dress? Was the music different? Wear your favorite decade s attire & join us to experience the throwback. 5 th Field Trip: Sweet Pete s Candy Factory We will participate in CAMP Chocolate bar & tour the factory. Departure Time- 11am *Week 8: July Around the World Week It s time to experience the culture, traditions, games, and fun of our friends from around the world! Camp is a great place to meet new people and try new things! Campers dress in your favorite cultural attire on Thursday & join us on our international endeavors. 6 th Field Trip: July 19, Movies & Park Departure Time: 9am 4

5 Week 9: July We are Family Week Join our HPRD family as we work together this week to have some fun. Campers will participate in team building activities, games, learn what it means to be a team player. 7 th Field Trip: July 26, 2016 Party~Bounce~Play of Fernandina Bch. Departure Time- 9am *Parents MUST sign this online waiver prior to going in order for your child to attend: Week 10: August 1-5 Aloha Week HPRD camp will be hosting the ultimate luau to say ALOHA to summer Come have some fun in the sun, play outdoor water games, swim in the pool, and just enjoy your camp friends. Your camper can take part in all of the festivities including a limbo contest, a camp HULA contest, and more! On Thursday wear your party gear as we say ALOHA to the fun. No field trip this week Aloha party on Thursday, August 4 th. 5

6 Here are a few helpful reminders: *Monday and Wednesdays we will ride a bus to HMSHS to have lunch and participate in the activity for that day. We will leave Parks & Rec at 10:45 and return around 12:15. *Tuesdays are field trip days *Wednesdays are CRAFT day we will do a Themed craft. *Thursdays will be HPRD party days where we dress up & celebrate our themed week. * We will be having pizza on Thursdays. *Campers may bring extra spending money for field trips, BUT they are responsible for it, not counselors! Please put in sealed envelope with campers name. Thank you for allowing us to be part of your child s summer!!! 7 HPRD Summer Camp Rules & Guidelines All campers MUST respect all counselors, lifeguards, & fellow campers at all times. YES, your camper may bring his/her electronic to camp BUT it can only be used during designated times. If at any time it becomes a distraction or problem, counselors may take it away. Campers must participate in all scheduled on & off site activities HPRD staff has planned. This will help us run a smooth, organized program. Campers must follow all rules enforced by the lifeguards. For personal safety, walking is required to & from designated rooms/activities, unless told otherwise. Follow counselor s instructions. Use Kind Hands : No hitting, pushing, or play fighting. 8 HPRD Summer Camp Discipline Policy We maintain a positive discipline policy, which focuses on prevention, redirection, love, consistency and firmness. We stress two main patterns of behavior: Respect for other people and Respect for property. The children are explained the rules of the HPRD Summer Camp program frequently, so they are all familiar with the guidelines. Please keep in mind that there WILL be disagreements between children. Young children have a hard time expressing their feelings. Sometimes they hit, throw toys, bite, name call, etc. We will try to prevent problems, redirect when appropriate, discuss inappropriate behavior, encourage making amends when offense involves another person, and sometimes withdraw privileges based on the principle of "natural consequences". An example might be where a child is misusing a toy then he/she will not be allowed to play with the toy for a period of time. The use of time outs will be rare except when a brief cooling off period is needed, but in the event we need to implement time out, the time out period will be as follows: 1 st offense: 2 minutes 2 nd offense: 5 minutes 3 rd Offense: 10 minutes & parent contact Sometimes when children are fighting or throwing toys, we will put the toy in a short time out, and then bring it back into circulation a little later. This seems to work better than giving the child a time out. Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES will there be any spanking, physical abuse, verbal abuse, name calling or isolation used. Food will never be withheld from children as a means of punishment. If a discipline problem arises that does not respond to the above mentioned techniques, we will hold a conference with the parents. Together, we will try to find a solution. You may be called to remove your child if his/her behavior prevents us from being able to properly care for the other children. If the problem continues, other arrangements for the care of the child will have to be made, for the safety and wellbeing of all. Parent Signature Date 8

9 Field Trip Policy For the safety of your child, it is extremely important that he/she follow these simple rules: No standing on the bus. No shouting or loud talking on the bus. No eating or drinking on the bus. Do not leave trash on the bus. Do not FOR ANY REASON leave your group. Stay with your assigned counselor & group. Do not stick arms, feet, etc out of the bus window. Do not throw any objects out of the bus window. Do not sit, stand, or block the aisle. Listen to your counselors at ALL times. You MUST wear your HPRD field trip shirt on every field trip. All camp counselors are equipped with their cell phones & camper contact information for making emergency calls. If your camper cannot follow these simple guidelines, he/she will not be allowed to participate in field trips. Parent/Guardian signature Date 9
