2 Sanctuary Summer Camp 2017 July 3-7, Grades 1 8 REGISTER ON OUR APP OR ONLINE AT MYSANCTUARY.ORG LOCATION: COST: Camp John Hope, Fort Valley, GA, Camp Fees: Campers are $170 per child with a $395 per family cap for children. Chaperones are $ each. Chaperones fees do not apply to the $395 family cap. Transportation Fees: There is a $60 per child optional transportation fee. Parents may elect to arrange their own transportation to avoid the transportation fee. Transportation fees do not apply to the family cap. Early Bird Discount: Register before May 28 th and receive a $15 discount. Deadline for Registration: Register by June 18 th to get a free t-shirt. After this date, t-shirts are available while supplies last. All applications must be turned in by June 28th. No applications will be accepted after this date. Scholarships: Limited scholarships are on an as needed/as available basis. Additional information will be provided upon request. June 28 th IS THE DEADLINE TO BE APPROVED FOR A SCHOLARSHIP. You must have arrangements made prior to this date. PAYMENT: PRE-CAMP CHECK-IN: A $35 deposit is required with the application. Incremental payments may be made through the church office or online at any time. Full payment is required before departure for camp. Please enclose payments in an envelope with payment instructions. Do not hand payments to staff members, as it increases the likelihood of payments being misplaced. Mastercard, Visa, American Express, and Discover payments are accepted online. All campers must complete a pre-camp check-in at the church. Check-in can be done on Saturday, July 1 st, 10am 12pm OR Sunday, July 2 nd, 2-3pm. (Please note this new time! Precamp check-in will not be held on Monday.) At camp check-in you will: 1. Choose the appropriate swim band for your child 2. Settle accounts with the registrar 3. Visit the camp nurse for health check and turn in medications. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU READ THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR MEDICATIONS INCLUDED WITH YOUR REGISTRATION APPLICATION. DEPARTURE: Monday, July 3, 1:00 PM Children should have lunch before arriving at the church. THOSE PROVIDING THEIR OWN TRANSPORTATION MUST COMPLETE PRE-CAMP CHECK-IN BEFORE LEAVING FOR CAMP. You should allow approximately 3 hours for the trip. You should arrive at the camp ground no earlier than 4:00 PM and no later than 5:00 PM. For those needing transportation to camp, we will leave for camp at 1:00 pm so please don t wait until the last minute to check-in.

3 RETURN: REFUNDS: Friday, July 7 th, 12:30 PM If you are arranging your own transportation, you should be at the campground no earlier than 9:00 AM and no later than 10:00 AM. Refunds may be requested if cancellation is made before departure for camp. Once the camper departs, no refunds will be made. Transportation fees will only be refunded if we are able to find another rider to pay for the seat. WHAT TO BRING: o bedding for bunk bed o fitted sheet o pillow o 2 towels, 1 bath, 1 beach o swimsuit o 2 plastic trash bags with name (one for dirty laundry, one for wet clothes) o shower sandals o toiletries o pajamas o Bible o spending money (suggested $20) DO NOT BRING: SPENDING MONEY: WHAT TO WEAR: EMERGENCY CONTACT: HOMESICKNESS: PHONE USE: SWIMMING: firearms, fireworks, knives, expensive jewelry, video games, ipod/mp3 players, skate boards, roller blades Children will have the opportunity to visit the canteen several times a day during the week. All money sent to camp will be exchanged for a canteen card. This card will have your child s name on it and will be left in the canteen. Any unused money will be refunded at the close of camp. Most items will be from $.25 to $1.00. Since campers will get dirty or wet, older play clothes are strongly suggested for recreation. All campers must have a pair of tennis shoes. Flip flops and sandals are allowed but may not be worn for recreational activities. Modest shorts are permitted. A change of clean, casual clothes is suitable for evening services. Please see Dress Code for Camp for examples of clothing that is permissible. In cases of emergency, campers and staff may be reached through the church office at After hours, you may contact Ricky Coule at We will do everything reasonably possible to enable your child s stay the full five days; however, we will contact you if your child gets homesick and cannot be consoled. It has been our experience that if children can make it until they go to sleep, they will be fine the next morning. If, after calling home, it is decided that your child needs to go home, it will be your responsibility to come to the campground to pick them up. We cannot spare staff to bring him/her home to you. To help prevent homesickness, phone calls home are discouraged during camp. Cell phone use is not permitted. Campers will be asked to keep cell phones packed in their luggage. We have swimming time scheduled each day. At registration, the parent or guardian dropping off the child will select a red/yellow/green arm band for your child, based on his/her swimming ability. On the first day of camp the lifeguard will require campers with green and yellow arm bands to pass a basic swim test before allowing them in the deep end of the pool. If you have specific concerns about your child s swimming ability, please speak with us at check-in. Please remember to send sunscreen with your child. The camp does not provide sunscreen.

4 HEALTH INFORMATON: Pre-camp Health Check Please understand that we cannot take children to camp if they have any indications of sickness such as fever, body aches, vomiting, diarrhea, etc. We will have fever and lice checks before leaving for camp. Campers who have a fever of or higher will not be allowed to attend camp. This is for the safety of all the children and staff. Medications Over-the-counter medications (Tylenol, Advil, antacids, laxatives, Benadryl, and topical antiseptic creams) will be provided (with parental release on the application). Please do not send these over-the-counter medicines with your child. Prescription medications and any over-the-counter medication not listed must be turned in to the camp nurse upon arrival. Please send ONLY the amount required while at camp IN THE ORIGINAL PRESCRIPTION BOTTLE/BOX PRESCRIBED TO THAT CAMPER. We cannot dispense medications that are not in the original containers. Send special over-the-counter medicines in the original package enclosed in a zip lock bag with the child s name and your dispensing instructions. For prescription medication, dispensing will be according to printed directions on the prescription bottle/box. No alterations to dispensing will be followed unless a doctor s note is provided with new dispensing instructions. All medications will be dispensed by the camp nurse. ROOM ASSIGNMENTS: DIRECTIONS TO THE CAMP: We will make every effort to assign your child to a room with friend(s) requested on the camp application. Your child will be under the care of a day counselor for daily activities and a dorm mom/dad for bed time. Head west toward Macon. (There are a couple of routes you can take to get to Macon). In Macon take I-75 South. From I-75, take Exit 135 (Perry-Marshallville). Travel West on GA 127/224. At approximately two miles from I-75, GA 127/224 will split. Keep to the right on GA 127 (you'll see the Camp John Hope sign) for approximately five miles. Turn right onto Camp John Hope Road and travel approximately one mile, turn left onto Hope Entrance Road Using a GPS? Enter this address: 281 Hope Entrance Road, Fort Valley, GA Camp office phone: (478) Helpful Hint: Most current GPS systems readily use "Fort Valley, GA" as the destination city/state. However, some devices required "Marshallville, GA" as the destination city/state. OTHER HELPFUL TIPS: Use a Sharpie marker to write your child s name on ALL clothes, towels, sheets, pillows, etc. Package each outfit of clothes (shirt, shorts, socks and underclothes) in a gallon Ziplock bag. Write the day and use for that outfit on the outside of the Ziplock bag. (Example, Monday play clothes or Monday church clothes ) If your child is afraid of the dark, purchase glo-sticks to hang on the bunk above. They provide just enough light and do not disturb other campers. You would need 1 set for each night. Also, a small, dim flashlight is preferred for dorm use. Large, bright flashlights are not allowed at bedtime, as they disturb other campers.

Medications must be in original containers, clearly labeled with child s name & instructions. 3. Please place all medications in one Ziploc bag with the child s name clearly written on bag. 4. Please bring only enough medication to last the week. 5. At the end of the week, any remaining medication and/or empty containers will be given to each child before leaving the campground. 8 Dress Code for Camp Please review in detail with your children. If you are inviting someone to join us for camp, make sure they have packed properly. Girls: Do not wear tank tops, spaghetti straps, t-back gym type shirts. It is recommended that all shirts be t-shirt style. No low cut arms or shoulders, cleavage, etc. Campers will be made to change if they are not in compliance with the policy. Age differences dictate the need to make this apply to all ages. These are not allowed. These are allowed. Do s Don t s Girls must wear coverups to the pool these cannot be see through. It is suggested girls wear shorts and t-shirts or a modest dress type cover up. Bathing suit tops are to be covered on the way to the pool. One piece or modest two piece tankini type bathing suits are required no bikinis. Boys: Modest lenth shorts and t-shirts no tank tops. Boys must wear t-shirts to the pool and any time they are out of the pool area. Dress Code I clearly understand what is expected and agree to follow the camp dress code. Student Parent

9 Release (Required for all campers) Camper Name I hereby give my child permission to attend and participate in The Sanctuary of Augusta Summer Camp program. I hereby waive, release and discharge any and all claims, demands and causes of action against camp staff, The Sanctuary of Augusta, and their agents, and other participants arising from any damage, property loss or injury my child sustains while at camp. I consent that photos of my child taken by the camp staff may be used by The Sanctuary for promotional videos and social media posts.
