2 Since 1963 Kirkmont Center has offered safe, fun, quality year-round programming for people of all ages. Kirkmont Center summer campers can expect: To be surrounded by God s creation in a place set apart from the distractions of everyday life. We offer more than 270 acres of woods, streams and fields. Kirkmont s beautiful campus includes an outdoor worship area and a labyrinth to provide places for meditation, singing and worship. To have the opportunity to engage in a wide range of activities. Recreational facilities include a canoeing pond, swimming pool, climbing wall & zip line, giant swing, archery range and more than eight miles of hiking trails to provide opportunities for exploration and fun. To actively engage in a Christian community, surrounded by those who continue to grow in faith every time they enter the Kirkmont grounds. To make new friends and grow closer to old friends. Laughter, listening, conversation and prayer are part of every week of camp. To encounter the Bible and learn about how its teachings apply to your own life. Delicious meals with your Kirkmont family! Safety is one of our primary concerns at Kirkmont Center. This includes not only physical safety, but also emotional and spiritual safety. With that in mind, we plan our summer programs, maintain our facilities and seek out qualified staff to provide an environment where all campers are safe. This atmosphere enables our campers to experience God s creation and love in new ways. We look forward to seeing you and your camper at Kirkmont Center this summer! If you would like to receive updates from Kirkmont Center, please info@kirkmontcenter.org and we will add you to our list Camp Catalog Kirkmont Center

4 You & Me Camp (kids ages 3-10, with an adult) June Camp Fee $65 per person Make some memories with your favorite young person (ages 3-10) by heading to Kirkmont for an overnight stay filled with adventures in music, crafts, hiking, fishing, swimming and campfire fun. Round out the experience with an overnight stay in the Cabents and be prepared to make memories to last a lifetime. Quilt Camp 1 (adults over 18) June Camp Fee $ Experienced and novice quilters alike are invited to join us at Kirkmont s beautiful Croft House for this week-long camp. Community and friendship will grow through Bible study, devotions and the sharing of patterns and techniques. So be sure to bring your machine, fabrics and current projects. Space is limited for this very special camp, so be sure to register early. NEW! The return of Frontier Camp (Grades Completed 8-12) June Camp Fee $ Frontier Camp is an opportunity for campers to experience life, in some small way, as it was in the past. You will be learning and practicing skills of ancestors and the people who lived in the frontiers of early America. Campers will be spending their nights on the property, yet at a base camp away from the lodges and more modern part of Kirkmont Center. They will eat their meals around the fire and will spend their days exploring the unfamiliar. Evening vespers will be around the fire. Frontier Camp covers knife and axe safety, building and starting fires using primitive methods as well as less common modern methods, building a woodman s camp and shelter, setting up a functional camp kitchen with minimal supplies, and much, much more. We will build on the skills introduced in Adventure Camp. If you have not been to Adventure Camp, don t worry. We will introduce skills in a manner that anyone can learn. Kirkmont offered Frontier Camp more than 20 years ago. We might invite former Frontier campers to share their stories. Please note: This camp requires a minimum of 7 campers. If we do not receive enough registrations we will notify parents. Beginners Camp (Grades Completed K-3) June Camp Fee $ Is your camper ready for their first away from home camping experience? Then this is the session for you! Kirkmont s Beginners Camp lets younger campers spend part of the week at camp trying out classic Kirkmont activities like hiking, pool time, canoeing and crafts; meeting new friends; and singing around the campfire. Because this camp is geared toward your camper s first experience with multi-day camping without an accompanying adult, Beginners Camp pays special attention to making first-time overnight camping fun and safe. It leaves the new camper wanting more! Camp Catalog Kirkmont Center
5 PYC Junior Camp (Grades Completed 3-6) June Camp Fee $ Ready to try out a full week of camp? With activities from swimming and canoeing, to archery and arts & crafts, your camper will get more time to experience Kirkmont. PYC Junior will be running at the same time as PYC. Campers will have meals and a few vespers together, while having their own age-appropriate experiences. PYC Camp (Grades Completed 7-12) June Camp Fee $ The Presbyterian Youth Connection (PYC) Camp programming is exclusively for our older campers! A new spin on an old favorite: select your tract from Sports, Science, Art, Drama, Music or Gaming (see below). Campers participate in large and small group activities as well as relevant discussions about faith and life. Make friends, explore faith, learn and have fun! Meals and some vespers will be shared with PYC Junior campers. Sports: From Kickball and Ultimate Frisbee, to Soccer and Volleyball, the sports track covers all kinds of sports. Each year is a little different and always offers a chance for campers to learn and participate in different sports each day. Science: The science track does something different and exciting every year. Past activities include dissecting sharks and building rockets, as well as learning about environmental science all around Kirkmont. Art: This track explores the world of visual arts in various mediums through individual and collaborative art projects that allow campers creativity to shine. Some past projects include creating life sized paper mache angels, a mural made of upcycled bottle caps and individual oil paintings on canvas. Music: This track allows campers to collaborate musically while preparing several songs for worship services throughout the week and a performance for family at the end of the week. Drama: [New this year!] Campers will explore different aspects of theatre, including creating sets, memorizing lines, and a performance at the end of the week. Gaming: [New this year!] From board games to collaborative role playing games, campers will explore different types of games with our Christian Education Director Cliff. 6 Camp Rejoice (Grades Completed 3-12) July Camp Fee $ Kirkmont s largest camp is open to youth who have completed 3rd to12th grade and promises fun for all ages. Camp Rejoice is an opportunity for young people to grow in faith while engaging in all the usual great Kirkmont fun activities, such as swimming, crafts, devotions, campfire vespers, canoeing and paddling, and cage ball, just to name a few! Bible study and worship round out the schedule, and older campers will participate in a candlelit labyrinth walk. Camp Rejoice also features two unique service elements that help illustrate the importance of seeing all of our blessings and giving back. Past service projects have included planting trees, habitat restoration and clearing the beloved trails of Kirkmont. Senior-High participants are treated to canoeing on the Mad River and a daytrip to Indian Lake. The joy in this journey will only be experienced if you come to Camp Rejoice! Adventure Camp (Grades Completed 3-8) July Camp Fee $ Horseback Option: $75 per person Campers will have an outdoor experience in the woods at Kirkmont. From animal tracks and tracking, to survival skills, your child will learn how to build shelters, collect drinkable water, and survive if they were ever stranded. As an added bonus, your child may be able to experience a night in the great outdoors under the shelter they have created. Campers also have the option of adding two 1 hour sessions at Marmon Valley Farms to learn about horses and go horseback riding for an additional $75 fee. Camp will also include swimming, devotions, campfire vespers, canoeing, cageball, and other Kirkmont traditions. Discovery Camp (Grades Completed 3-8) July Camp Fee $ Horseback Option: $75 per person Campers will get to experience the nature that is Kirkmont. From plant life, and what is edible, to studying the ecosystems, to stargazing on a clear night. There is a lot of nature to learn about out here, and we want you to learn about it. Campers also have the option of adding two 1 hour sessions at Marmon Valley Farms to learn about horses and go horseback riding for an additional $75 fee. Camp will also include swimming, devotions, campfire vespers, canoeing, cageball, and other Kirkmont traditions Camp Catalog Kirkmont Center

Attendees will enjoy pool-time, arts and crafts, a campfire, sing-a-longs, nature time, S mores, and evening activities like the Benjamin Logan Long-Clawed Snipe hunt or night hike. And don t be mistaken the accompanying adults will enjoy this camp as much as their campers! Quilt Camp 2 (adults over 18) July Camp Fee $ Experienced and novice quilters alike are invited to join us at Kirkmont s beautiful Croft House for this week-long camp. 9 Registration You have two options for registering: You can get a paper registration form by calling Sara at Or online via Registering online saves Kirkmont time and money! Registrations are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. A registration form, a camper medical form and a deposit are required to hold your space at camp. Once registered, you will receive confirmation, a what to bring list and other follow up information relevant to your camp(s). Deposits and Refunds We ask for a deposit of $75 at the time of registration. If your schedule changes between registering and summer camp, we are happy to apply deposits to another week of camp that fits with your schedule. The Center for Faith and Service recognized Kirkmont Center as one of the Summer Camps that Change the World. Kirkmont Center is a member of the American Camp Association, the Presbyterian Church Camp & Conference Association, and the Ohio Ecological Food & Farm Association. As a single mom, I have to be cautious with my financial decisions. One of the best investments I have made with my girls is a week at camp! The Kirkmont experience has built my girls confidence, independence and, most importantly, their spiritual journey. Happy teen = happy family. Thanks for putting a big smile on my son s face! A week in the fresh air is exactly what my daughter needed. I wish I could capture the Kirkmont experience and bring it home for her! Kirkmont Center 2019 Camp Catalog 9
10 How will my child be supervised? A staff person or counselor is with each cabent group at all times. All summer staff are trained prior to the start of camp. Adult Volunteer Counselors study Christian leadership, camp policies, curriculum, basic outdoor living skills, safety, and program skills. What s a cabent? Cabents are wooden structures with a shingled roof and solid floor. A canvas curtain provides privacy and protection from rain, and solid bunk-beds are equipped with good, firm mattresses. How are children assigned to their camp groups? Campers are grouped according to their gender, grade and age group, with usually only 1 year in age difference, depending on the total number of children. A full cabent group may consist of an adult counselor, a teenager participating in leadership training, and up to 10 campers. What about health and safety? A registered nurse resides onsite during each week of the summer. Parental health and accident insurance is the primary coverage for campers. Kirkmont provides secondary insurance. Please include the necessary medical information and a copy of the front and back of your medical insurance card along with the camper s Youth Medical form. Does my child need spending money? Yes, if he/she wants to buy items like camp souvenirs, stamps, or Kirkmont clothing at the Camp Store. However, all snacks and treats are provided. What about Bible Study? Daily Bible study is based on a summer camp curriculum specifically written for youth. We also have Christian Education daily and camper-led worship time (vespers) each evening. The curriculum is designed to accommodate all denominations. Our 2019 Curriculum is Peace Works, Empowering the Next Generation of Peacemakers. Peace is a prayer for some and a life s work for others. Peace is something we wish to others as a blessing and a longing within each person s heart. Every culture has its own words and stories to describe peace and the work it requires. Scripture is filled with these stories, and camp is the perfect place to share them. Peace is not easy, but worth the effort because we know that peace works. Peace Works invites your camper to become peacemakers! What should campers bring with them to camp? A list of what to bring is posted on our website: This information is also mailed with the camp registration acknowledgement letter upon receipt of the registration form. Can I write to my child? Sure! The address is: Camper Name, Kirkmont Center, 6946 County Road 10, Zanesfield, OH Be sure to post your mail well ahead of time so that it arrives during your child s camp. Please do NOT send food or candy. Delicious, well-balanced meals and snacks will be provided. Food in the cabents creates problems with critters. Can my child call home? Can I call or visit my child during camp? Calls and visits from family are discouraged because they can promote homesickness, and also disrupt group equality and camaraderie by singling out a particular camper. For this reason, we ask that all cell phones be left at home or turned in to the office for the week. If a camper gets homesick, our counselors and summer staff are trained to help him/her deal with this natural emotion. If a child is homesick, not participating with the group, disrupting camp, or causing other problems, the weekly camp director will call the parent(s) to discuss options. Is financial assistance available? Many churches offer youth scholarships, often paying half or all of a camp fee. Please talk with your pastor, educator or youth leader. If you ve spoken with your church officials and still need assistance, ask a church representative to obtain an application form for the DeLair Family Campership Fund. DeLair Family Campership Fund is intended to supplement other sources of funding and may be used for any amount up to and including 50% of the total camp fee. The Campership Fund is made possible by donations from individuals, families, and congregations. Need Forms? Both Youth and Adult Registration forms may be obtained by downloading and printing them from our website: call the office staff: at (866) or info@kirkmontcenter.org Camp Catalog Kirkmont Center

It is hard for me to say what I love most about camp so I will just say I LOVE KIRKMONT! Some people might get homesick but I get campsick! Counting the minutes for next summer!!! When I turn off the main road at the camp entrance, I feel like I am home! Sometimes it is hard to hear God in my regular life. But not at Kirkmont. I can feel God in the trees, while I am on the climbing wall, along the trails, at Bunker Hill and always in the Vespers circle. No matter where I am or what I am doing at camp, I feel connected.
