2 Traditional Camps Summer Camp Hunt Recreation Center Age: 5-13 Parks and Recreation is planning a fun, healthy, and active camp for children ages 5 (must have been in kindergarten)-13 years old. Camps are weekdays from June 17, 2019-August 16, 2019, from 7am-6pm. Each week the children will go swimming, on one field trip, participate in a simple cooking activity, visit other parks and facilities in Holly Springs and most of all have FUN!. There are camps for ages 5-7, 8-10, and There are also some scholarships available. The costs of the camps are as follows; (R) and (NR) per week. **For registration you must have a completed registration packet for each child. Camps fill up fast, so register early. 4 Nature Camps Nature Explorers Summer Camp Bass Lake Park Age: 8-13 Summer camp is designed to extend park programs that are offered throughout the year. Fishing basics, taught as a four-hour class is extended throughout the week to give a young angler plenty of opportunity to develop their fishing skills. Archery 101 and 202 teaches safety and proper form to allow a young archer plenty of time to develop new skills. Summer camp archers can sign up for Archery 202 after camp to continue developing their skills. Canoeing basics begins with a boating safety presentation covering weather, clothing and trip preparation. Basic canoe strokes are reinforced along with safe, age appropriate personal rescue techniques including controlled capsize. All campers need to bring a change of clothes including a towel and water shoes, no flip flops. Campers will also need to bring a non-refrigerated lunch and water bottle; snacks will be provided. Parents will need to check their campers in on Monday to complete forms and waivers. Transportation for Friday offsite trips and other travel needs is provided in the Bass Lake fifteen passenger van. We do not offer early drop-off or after program care. If a camper needs to leave camp early, or will not attend camp on a certain date, please communicate this to camp staff as soon as possible. 5 Unique Camps Circus Camp Age: 5-14 This unique program uses the art of clowning to help students enhance their knowledge of several life skills, including teamwork and public speaking, while building confidence, self-esteem, character building and personal pride. Led by clowning arts veterans, who have been entertaining for decades, the program offers instruction on clown make up, juggling, magic, balloon animals and more. Crews are hired for 4 week sessions. Crew members will spend a portion of their work time participating in educational, training, and team building activities, including field trips to natural and historical sites, ropes courses, and meetings with town officials. 6 Drama Camps Mystery Drama Camp Age: 6-14 Taught by instructors with over 60 years of combined experience in theatre and performing arts, this is a unique Drama camp where participants are introduced to several aspects of putting together a theater production. We start with a simple outline and main characters for the show. Throughout the week, campers will write the entire script, assist in set design and building, learn about make-up and costuming for special characters, be part of the stage crew, and much more. Everyone was jubilant after finding Noodle in our last show, but as our show ended we found out that Dipsy, Noodles mom, has been arrested. You are invited to Dandy s circus performance on Friday afternoon to find out what happened and if Dipsy will rejoin the family circus. 7 Carolina Children s Theatre - World Fairy Tale Workshop Age: 6-10 Join us for a full day of drama/theatre games and rehearsals for our original CCT play based on Aesop s Fables. The first day we will audition for parts in the play. Each day children will receive lessons on vocals/diction and projection, music, line memorization skills and choreography. The children will also work on sets, costumes, makeup and props to create a show that is truly their own! Weather permitting we do some outdoor activities and games as well. Each camp ends with a final sharing on the last day of class for friends and family at 3pm followed by a cast party. Don t miss it! Join us for a full day of drama/theatre games and rehearsals for an original ensemble work. The first day we explore a variety of scenes and monologues - or children may bring their own to work on. 8 Drama Camps Acting Intensive Age: This intensive will help student actors with auditions, provide theatrical background to be competitive, and prepare actors for college and production work. This week s class will focus on Physicality, Voice, Tech overview, History overview, Character work, Improv, Auditioning skills, and Script work. Students will walk away with a notebook of references, a headshot (or two), professional resume, and audition skills. This class is geared toward students who are interested in pursuing theatre in the community (or professionally), or who are looking to audition better. Students who want to take the intensive AND the subsequent production class may do so at a reduced rate (15% reduction in total cost). Students who want to take the intensive AND Enchanted Sleeping Beauty may do so at areduced rate (15% reduction in total cost). There is a $50 supply fee due to the instructor the first day of class /17-06/21 10:30A-4:30P $200 $300 Minimum: 6; Maximum: 15 Instructor: Julya Mirro Summer Production Age: Participants will engage in the creation of a production (yes, they create the characters and write it!), rehearsal, prop & costume development, and then final production! The show may be based on a known story, improv skills, or something completely of their own derivation. We will also focus on developing the requisite skills to create, design, and produce the show so its both a performance class AND an opportunity to determine, design, and conceptualize a production. This is a great class for someone who wants to enhance their current skills, learn a little about the other areas of a production, and perform as well! Great for resume building! Students who want to take the production class AND the prior intensive may do so at a reduced rate (15% reduction in total cost). Students who want to take the production class AND Enchanted Sleeping Beauty may do so at a reduced rate (15% reduction in total cost). 9 Registration Information Registration Dates On Friday, February 1, registration will begin for Holly Springs residents only. Registrations are accepted online or in person at Bass Lake Park, the Cultural Center and the Hunt Recreation Center. Please see back cover for addresses and registration hours. Beginning Friday, February 15, registration will begin for non-residents in person at any staffed Parks and Recreation facility as well as online. A resident is defined as a person that lives within the municipal Town limits and pays Holly Springs taxes and/or utilities. Camps are filled on a first come, first served basis. Registration Process Each participant must have his or her own registration forms. Extra forms can be picked up at any Parks and Recreation location. Spaces for campers are filled on a first come, first serve basis. In the event that the week(s) you desire is full, we will place your child on a waiting list for the week(s) requested and you will be notified if slots become available. Although staff makes every effort to place each child, there is no guarantee that your child will be placed in a slot if you are waitlisted. Payment Instruction / Fees Payment Options include cash, check with a valid NC Drivers License (payable to Town of Holly Springs), Visa, Discover, MasterCard or American Express, and money orders. Payment in full is required at time of registration. To qualify for resident rates, you must reside within the Municipal Town Limits of Holly Springs and pay Holly Springs taxes and/or utilities. To qualify for multiple children discounts you must register all children at the same time. Late Fees Parents who are late picking up their children will be charged $10 for every 15 minute time period they are late. Late fees must be paid prior to the next day of attending camp. Scholarships For information and eligibility requirements for scholarships, please contact Julie Tew at (919) Registration Forms Registration forms must be completed for all camps and turned in at the time of registration. Each child must have a completed registration form. Extra forms can be picked up at any facility, including Town Hall. If registering online, form must be returned to the facility prior to the first day of camp. Athletic Camps Various sport-specific camps will be offered by the Athletics Division. 10 Summer Camp Policies Refund Policy 100% refund/transfer if Department cancels program. Hunt Recreation Center Summer Camp Refund/transfer requests must be submitted in writing to the appropriate Programs Manager by June 11. Refunds requested after June 11 will not be refunded. A $15 service charge will be assessed per child/per week for all refunds. Bass Lake Camps & Holly Springs Cultural Center Camps Refund/transfer requests must be submitted in writing to the appropriate Programs Manager at least 14 days prior to the start of the camp the participant is registered for. Refunds requested less than 14 days prior to the camp in which the participant is enrolled will not be refunded. A $15 service charge will be assessed per child/per week for all refunds. Non-Discrimination Policy The Town of Holly Springs Parks and Recreation Department does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation or disability in employment opportunities or the provision of service, programs or activities. Lunches/Snacks Each child is responsible for providing their own nutritious lunch/snack including a drink to camp daily. A microwave is not available for camp use. Clothes Children should dress appropriately for camp. Play clothes that can get dirty, with sneakers/gym shoes and socks are required. No sandals or bare feet allowed. Photography Waiver Pictures of your child may be taken while participating in Town activities and may be used for program publicity. Basic Facility Rules No running inside facilities. Campers will not be allowed to use telephones. Do not interfere with another group s activity. When working on arts and crafts, maintain a clean work area and take home your projects daily. Foul and abusive language toward counselors or other campers will not be tolerated. Make sure borrowed supplies are returned at the end of the day. No eating or drinking except in designated areas. Do not bring toys, games, CD players or MP3s to camp. Campers should not bring money with them unless given permission to do so. Parks and Recreation Staff are not responsible for money brought by campers. No street shoes allowed. 10

11 Sick Children If a camper is not feeling well enough to participate in the summer camp program, the student should stay home. Any child who has the following symptoms within a 24-hour period is not permitted to attend the program: Temperature over 100 Vomiting Diarrhea Eye irritation Sore Throat Rash If a camper becomes sick while at camp, the child s parent/guardian will be asked to pick up their child. If the parent/guardian cannot be reached the emergency contact will be called. Drop-off & Pick-up Parents/guardians are required to physically enter the camp facility to pick-up/drop-off. If someone other than the child s guardian will be picking them up, let the camp counselor know in writing that morning. Lost Items The Town of Holly Springs Parks and Recreation Department is not responsible for any personal items lost or stolen at our programs. Discipline Policy The Holly Springs Parks and Recreation Staff are dedicated to a discipline policy that is neither humiliating nor degrading. The town reserves the right to remove a child from the program at any time. The following is a guide for use in correcting problem behavior participants. Step 1: Warning/Reminders We remind the child of the rule they have broken and tell them what the consequences will be if it continues. Step 2: Withdrawal of privileges The child will lose time from a fun activity. Example: He/she will lose 10 minutes from free time or swimming. Step 3: Pink Slips - The child s counselor will send a note home which will explain to the parent/guardian the rule that was broken. It must be signed by the child s parent/guardian and turned in when they return the next day. Step 4: Expulsion from Camp If a child continues to break the rules the parent/guardian will be asked to meet with the child s counselors to discuss other ways to help guide their child toward positive behavior. The Program reserves the right to dismiss any child from the Program who is harmful or a threat to the well being of other children or staff. Outings Some camps require field trips. A blanket permission form on the Registration Application must be signed in order for your child to participate in field trips. You will be given a list of planned trips in advance. Verbal consent will not be accepted as permission. 11
