8 Trip Tips Prepare for cold and warm weather. Pack jeans and sweat shirts as well as shorts and t- shirts. Rooms at the Yosemite and Sequoia & Kings Canyon will be rustic with no frills and limited bathroom access. Evenings will probably be quiet you might want to bring along things to entertain yourself. Books, games, cards, etc. I m sure there will be a few rousing games of Euchre played we may even see some snakes lying in the grass. There will be at least one challenging day hike. The details are yet to be planned. The hike may take 8-10 hours and could include a climb in elevation. Plan to carry food and water for the day. It may also be a good idea to plan to dress in layers and to pack rain gear. Training, including stairs and hiking with a pack, would be a good idea. Curling irons are optional! Did we mention that the access to bathroom facilities will be limited? Plan to bring a daypack (backpack or fannypack). Hiking can be as easy or as strenuous as we want. You will want to carry water and snacks. Depending on the weather an extra layer of clothing might be a good idea also. Good items to pack for hiking include: poncho, first aid kit, kleenex, hand sanitizer, aspercream, moleskin, pepper spray, bear bells, extra food to share with Peggy (she will have her mouch card with her), etc. Dangers include hypothermia, bears and cougars. I don t think we will have to worry about any of these, but we should be prepared. Extra dry clothes and bells would be a good thing to have along while hiking. We can stop when we get there and buy some food and beverages for the week. Once we are in the park the choices for prepared meals will be limited, so we should get things for breakfast and lunch plus trail food. I plan to bring some trail food that is easy to pack and easier to get here in bulk. Things like jerky, cashews and trail mix. I ll also bring zip lock baggies to split the food up so we can pack it with us when we hike. Page - 8
