We have a whole line-up of festivities planned over four days from Thursday July 14 Sunday July 17, including: Wanaki Centre s 20th Anniversary Wanaki Centre & Kitigan Zibi School Pow-Wow Grounds July 15,16,17, 2011 Live Music and Entertainment Shows Karaoke Fiddling & Step-Dancing Competition Canoe Race Children s Activities Drumming & Traditional Dancing Tours of the Wanaki Centre Bilingual Workshops Anger Management Communication, Conflict Resolution, and Healthy Families Workshop Relapse Prevention Recognizing Your Path Spiritual and Cultural Activities Sacred Fire Ceremony Sunrise Ceremony Sweat Lodge Ceremony (Men s, Women s, Co-Ed) We are asking for the community to show their support for this celebration by any means possible: Come out and participate in the Celebration!!! (Each individual will require a bracelet to be obtained within the Wanaki Centre Information Tent) 7pm-12 am Fiddling & Step-Dancing Competition Prizes for both competitions: 1 st place: $250 2 nd place:$150 3 rd place:100 9 pm-10:30pm LIVE ENTERTAINMENT: Special Guest Innu Singer Laurent McKenzie FRIDAY JULY 15 4am Actual Sunrise 11:30 am- 12:15pm 12pm-1 pm Algonquin Traditional Fire Ceremony at the Wanaki Centre within the Wanaki Centre Teepee Facilitated by our Elder Mr. Peter Decontie, who is the Algonquin Nations traditional Fire Keeper from the community of the Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg. Mr. Decontie has for many years been a part of the Sacred Fire Ceremonies that we offer to clients at the Wanaki Centre, he is an integral part of the healing process the clients receive at the Centre. Everyone is welcome to attend as an observer. Sunrise Ceremony at the Wanaki Centre within our teepee This ceremony will be facilitated by our Elder Mr. Pierre Papatie, who is the Algonquin Nations traditional Sunrise Ceremony facilitator from the community of Lac Simon. All other pipe carriers are invited to participate in this ceremony by following Elder Papatie s protocols. Everyone else is welcome as an observer. Tours of the Wanaki Centre Treatment Facility Facilitated by Executive Director, Mr. Patrick Dumont Jr. and our Treatment Coordinator, Ms. Judy McConnery Lunch 1:15 pm Women s Sweat Lodge Ceremony at the Wanaki Centre These ceremonies will be facilitated by our Elders Mr. Peter Beaucage and Mrs. Debbie Beaucage who are both Ojibway from the Nippising First Nation. Mr. Beaucage has been conducting the sweat lodge ceremonies along with his wife Debbie at the Wanaki Centre for more than10 years and they are an integral part of the healing process the client s receive at the Centre. 1:30 pm WORKSHOP: Anger Management In English, facilitated in Tent A by Ms. Judy McConnery, Wanaki Centre Treatment Coordinator. In French, facilitated in Tent B by Residential Counsellors, Ms. Sophie Pelletier and Ms. Julie Rusenstrom. 4:00-4:45 pm Tours of the Wanaki Centre Treatment Facility Facilitated by Executive Director, Mr. Patrick Dumont Jr. and our Treatment Coordinator, Ms. Judy McConnery. 12:30am Closing 8pm English AA Meeting in Tent A at the Wanaki Centre
4 KITIGAN ZIBI SCHOOL POW-WOW GROUNDS All scheduled activities to take place in MAIN TENT WANAKI CENTER GROUNDS Sharing Circle Facilitated in English by Judy McConnery and in French with Sophie Pelletier 7am Pipe Ceremony by Pipe Carriers Only This ceremony will take place at the Wanaki Centre only if there are official pipe carriers present. SATURDAY JULY pm-1:15 Lunch 5pm-6:30 pm Celebration Feast Past clients, Board members, staff and community leaders and our resource people with their spouse and children will be served first. Wrist bands will be required to identify these individuals. Once they are served, the rest of the public will be served until all is gone. 7pm-8pm Recognizing Past Client s Sobriety 8 pm- 1am LIVE ENTERTAINMENT: Music will be provided by Special Guest Cowboy Cliff and his band from Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg. All other musicians are invited to participate and show their talents while the band takes their breaks.(all interested participants are required to bring their own instruments to play). 9pm-9:30 Presentation by our local hoop dancers, supported by the Mikanakosag youth drum group from Kitigan Zibi. 1:30 am Closing SATURDAY JULY 16 8am Water Ceremony Facilitated by our Elder Mrs. Josie Whiteduck. Mrs. Whiteduck from the Kitigan Zibi Community has worked with the Wanaki Centre for years doing the Water Ceremony, along with other traditional and cultural teachings, she is an integral part of the healing process the clients receive at the Centre. Men s Sweat Lodge Ceremony Facilitated by Mr. Peter Beaucage 1:15 pm WORKSHOP: Communication, Conflict Resolution & Healthy Families In English, facilitated in Tent A by Ms. Judy McConnery, Wanaki Centre Treatment Coordinator. In French, facilitated in Tent B by Residential Counsellors, Ms. Sophie Pelletier and Ms. Julie Rusenstrom. 2 pm-4 pm Co-Ed Canoe Race Competition To be held at Wanaki Beach next to the Wanaki Centre. A maximum of 36 teams will be accepted. First-come, First-served. Free Entry Fee; all teams must be registered at the Wanaki s Information tent by 10am on Saturday morning. Only adults 18 years and over can register and all contestants must have identification if requested. All contestants must sign the Wanaki waiver form in order to compete.
