3 D, F and J Series HAND-HELD BALL VALVES Intended for use with all ball valves constructed of stainless steel with quick-change rear valve seat..0 ITEMS NEEDED Not Supplied In Repair Kit Bench Vise Hammer / Diameter Punch Safety Glasses Drill Press (or electric drill) Loctite.0 INSTRUCTIONS. Remove and discard Hose Gasket (), Rear Seat (), and O-ring ().. Open or close bench vise until there is a gap between the jaws of /4 to /. Prop Valve Handle () over gap so that Spirol Pins () can be driven into the gap between the vise jaws. Drive out the spirol pins using a / diameter punch. Note: Do not use a nail set or pointed punch. This may cause pins to expand, making it very difficult to remove. If possible, remove broken handle at this time. Be sure to wear safety glasses.. Pad vise jaws with several rags. Open valve and place repair mandrel through Valve Ball (). Gently clamp valve in vise with one Trunnion () pointing up. Place allen wrench in end of Trunnion. Unscrew and discard trunnion along with O-ring (). It may be necessary to place a piece of pipe or wrench on end of allen wrench for additional leverage. 4. Turn valve over in vise and repeat step #.. Remove valve from vise and remove mandrel, f40 valve coupling () will need to be removed, Ball (), Front Valve Seat (), and Belleville Washer (4). Discard Valve Seat and Belleville Washer. Note: Earlier models may have an O-ring in place of the Belleville Washer.. Stand valve vertically on drill press and clamp in vise with coupling end up. Drop Belleville Washer (4) into Valve Body () (note orientation in drawing). Drop Front Valve Seat () into Valve Body () (note orientation in drawing). Drop Valve Ball () into Valve Body () and insert plastic mandrel through hole in ball.. Rotate Valve Ball () so that threaded holes are aligned with trunnion hole in Valve Body ().. Install O-rings () on Trunnions ().. Apply a thin film of grease (supplied) to O-rings and Trunnions, take care not to get any grease on the threads. 0. Apply one large drop of Loctite (supplied) on trunnion threads.. Place new Handle () in position over Valve Body (). Make sure that OFF on the handle faces the coupling end of the valve.. Insert Trunnions () through Handle () and Valve Body () while pressing down on the plastic mandrel with drill press chuck or by hand. Note: It will take approximately 0 lb. to compress the Belleville Washer (4). Screw the Trunnion () into Valve Ball (). Do not tighten yet.. Repeat step # with other Trunnion. 4. Clamp one allen wrench in vise with approximately / of the short end above the vise jaws.. Place one Trunnion on wrench in vise and second wrench in other Trunnion. The plastic mandrel should still be in the valve ball. Tighten both Trunnions as tight as you can by hand. Do not use a wrench or pipe on the allen wrench or threads may be damaged.. With the plastic mandrel still in the Valve Ball (), pull the Handle () back to the open or ON position. Locate the small dimple on the Handle () above the Trunnions (). Using the # drill (supplied), drill through the dimple, through the center of the Trunnion (), and out the other side. Support the Handle () below the Trunnions () on the edge of the drill press table or on a pile of boards to insure that the hole passes through the center of the Trunnions ().. Insert the new Spirol Pins () in the drilled holes and press, or gently tap them flush with the Handle ().. Remove plastic mandrel. Lubricate and install O-ring () on Rear Valve Seat (). Press Valve Seat () into Valve Body () (note orientation in drawing). Install new Hose Gasket (). If you have trouble, call for advice or send valve and remaining new parts to our service department. 9 DETENT STYLE HAND HELD BALL VALVES This Service Procedure is intended for use with the HVIT, H-VIT, H-VO, H-VOI, H-VO, H-VOI, H-VO, H-VOI and H-VPPIT series of. and. inlet Ball Valves..0 ITEMS NEEDED Not Supplied In Repair Kit Bench Vise T-Handle Allen Wrench Set Loctite.0 INSTRUCTIONS FOR VALVE SEAT AND BALL REPLACEMENT TEAR DOWN:. Remove set screws () from body that are forward of the bail handle. Grasp the front ring (, 4,, or ) in padded vise and remove by unthreading.. Remove the valve seat ( or ) from the male threaded section.. Place the bail handle () in the off position and through the female coupling, push the valve ball ( or ) out the front of the valve. 4. Use a straight blade screw driver to remove the rear valve seat ( or ).. Inspect the o-ring (4 or ) in the front of the valve for damage and replace if required. REBUILD SECTION:. Place a seat ( or ) in the front ring with the male threads.. Install valve seat ( or ) into the body, flat side down.. The notch in the ball ( or ) is designed to reduce turbulence through the valve, install ball with notch down and towards the bail handle side of the valve.. Check for o-ring (4 or ) in the front of the valve, install front ring (, 4, or ) till the shoulder is flush with the front of the body. Compression on the valve is adjusted with the front ring. 0. Cycle bail handle to check for smooth operation. If bail is tight, un-thread front ring. If loose, tighten front ring. Required force to cycle bail is to lbs.. Tighten set screws () evenly. If set screws are not tightened evenly there may be a leak around the front ring seal.. Place ball valve on a pressurized water system and check for leaks and operation..0 INSTRUCTIONS FOR BAIL HANDLE REPLACEMENT REMOVAL OF OLD BAIL HANDLE. Remove set screws () from body that are forward of the bail handle. Grasp the front ring in padded vise and remove.. Remove the valve seat ( or ) from the male thread section.. Place the bail handle () in the off position and through the female coupling, push the valve ball ( or ) out the front of the valve. 4. Use a straight blade screw driver to remove the rear valve seat ( or ).. Inspect the o-ring (4 or ) in the front of the valve for damage and replace if required.. Remove button head screws ( or ) from bail handle.. Push trunnions (4 or ) into the valve body and remove. Note: There is a left and right trunnion on this model, do not mix.. Remove bail handle by lifting up off of the valve body. This will release the detent springs and balls. INSTALLATION OF BAIL HANDLE. Insert one Detent Spring ( or ) and Detent Ball ( or ) into each of the stop lugs of the Bail Handle. Note: ( Make sure the belly shaped side of the handle faces the front of the valve body.). While holding the detent springs and balls in the stop lugs, push bail handle onto valve body over detent area.. Apply lubricant to o-ring ( or ) on trunnion. 4. Align the roll pin ( or ) with the hole in Bail Handle and push from the inside.. Place Trunnion Driver ( or 0) over roll pins.. Apply loctite to the button head screws ( or )..
