3 Registration This event is open to Boy Scout Troops, Varsity Teams, Venturing Crews, and Explorer Posts. Troops may invite Webelos to camp with them in their campsites (they cannot make their own reservations for this event). BSA Guidelines must be followed. When invited by a Boy Scout unit, a Webelos Scout may participate in overnight den camping: he must be supervised by an adult from his pack. In most cases, the Webelos Scout will be under the supervision of his parent or guardian. It is essential that each Webelos Scout be under the supervision of a parent-approved adult. Joint Webelos den/troop campouts including the parents of the Webelos Scouts are encouraged to strengthen ties between the pack and troop. Den leaders, Pack leaders, and parents are expected to accompany the boys to this event. The troop or crew will make the reservation for your pack. The registration fee is $18 per Scout or $5 per Adult. Registration fee includes patch, and access to all activities. Registration for ScoutJam 2016 should be completed, with a final count of participants (youth and leaders) turned in to the council service center by September 15, This will help the committee finalize plans. A participant shall be any member (youth or adult leader) who has officially registered with a unit by paying the designated fee and being listed on the unit s roster form. A participant will receive an official I.D. Bracelet, a patch and a participants program. A Visitor is considered a non-registered member, a parent or friend of a Scout participating in the event. A visitor can tour the activities on Saturday and participate in some displays. Visitors may bring a picnic lunch for Saturday. Visitors may not be allowed to participated in all activates. Non-Registered Youth thinking about joining the Scouting Program may register and participate in the activities. Identification Uniforms: All youth participants and leaders are asked to wear field uniforms (Class A) during the event to aid in security and identification. Remember, we are a uniformed organization and should wear our uniform with pride. ScoutJam Unit Leader Information

4 Arrival and Departure Arrival Friday Evening Check in time for troops is from 4:00 to 9:00 on Friday evening Boy Scout Troops and Webelos Dens camping with a Scout Troop should enter Lakewood Forest Preserve on Friday evening from Route 176. Please follow the direction of traffic control personnel. The west circle road will be designated one way only from the north entrance to the Overnight Parking on Friday afternoon. Drivers may drop off people and equipment near the camping headquarters, at Shelter E, then immediately remove vehicles to the overnight parking south of the camping area. Drivers must stay with their vehicle until it is parked in the Overnight Parking. Each registered unit will be allowed to leave one troop trailer (the tow vehicle must be disconnected and moved to the overnight parking) or equipment truck in a designated parking area near the camping area. Units should be prepared to carry all equipment to their camp site. No vehicles will be allowed in the camping area or activity areas of the park. Trailers are not permitted in the camping area. Check in Units will check in at the camping headquarters,in shelter E, upon arrival. You will receive your campsite assignment and a parking permit for your trailer upon check in. Your District Staff will be prepared to check in units Friday night starting at 4:00pm. Please plan to arrive no later than 9:00pm. Your commissioner staff will show your unit where it will camp and you may begin setting up your campsite immediately. You may finalize your youth participation and receive materials for your participants during check in. You will need a completed registration and unit roster (including youth and adults) to receive the registration material. Registration must be completed by a designated Unit leader. No individual participant registration will be allowed. You may pay for additional participants at this time and turn in rosters showing additional participants. 5 Saturday Arrivals& Departures With busy schedules we understand that some individual participants may need to arrive or depart during the event on Saturday. Participants arriving on Saturday or needing to depart on Saturday should use the Ivanhoe Road entrance to the park. Vehicles are to stay on Ivanhoe road to and from the overnight parking area. The west loop road and North Forest Preserve Road will be closed to all traffic on Saturday. No vehicles will be allowed in the camping or activities area. Unit leaders are responsible to check in and check out all participants that arrive/depart on Saturday. Sunday Departure Check out time is from 9:30 to 11:00 on Sunday morning. Units will check out with the commissioner staff before departing. Units should be prepared to carry equipment to their troop trailer or to vehicles in the overnight parking area. Except for troop trailers parked in the trailer lot and tow vehicles, no vehicles will be allowed in the trailer parking lot or on the west circle road on Sunday morning. The west circle road will be designated one way going from the overnight parking lot to the exit on 176. Vehicles parked in the Overnight Parking should exit going east on Ivanhoe Road. 6 General Information Equipment ScoutJam 2016 is a camping activity. All participants, youth and leaders, will be sleeping in tents. Units provide tents and other necessary equipment for all members and leaders. No impact camping. Units should utilize leave no trace guidelines during the weekend. We will leave the area in better condition than we found it. Participants should be prepared to carry all camping equipment from the parking area to the camping area on Friday afternoon and back out on Sunday morning. Your campsite could be up to 500 yards from the parking area.no vehicles will be allowed in the camping area or off of the designated roadways. Some specific requirements for ScoutJam 2016: No trenching or digging holes is permitted in the camp site. All cooking is to be done above ground on gas/propane stoves. Charcoal cooking is discouraged due to limited availability for coal disposal. Units are encouraged to use disposable plates and flatware to minimize the amount of dish washing required. No ground fires are permitted in the park. No metal tent stakes are allowed in the park. No flames (candles, kerosene, propane or gas lanterns) in tents Camping area Uniforms Sanitation Each registered unit will have a designated camping area. The size of the area assigned will be based on the number of paid participants (youth and adult) registered as of September 15 th. A troop with 40 participants will be assigned an area approximately 80 X 100. Smaller units will be assigned smaller areas. ScoutJam 2016 is a Boy Scouts of America Camp that will be attended by hundreds of scouts and leaders. We should look like we belong to this organization. Field Uniforms (Class A) should be worn at all times during the event. There will be visitors in the park and our appearance and behavior must exemplify the best that Scouting has to offer. Units must provide facilities for washing pots, pans and serving dishes. Cooking stoves should be used to provide hot water for this purpose. Be sure to bring soap or soap powder and other cleaning materials (biodegradable recommended). You will need containers for carrying water to campsites. Trash containers will be located at convenient places for garbage and refuse. Immediately after each meal, all disposable matter should be disposed of. 7 Food Preparation Meals should be kept simple, easy to prepare and easy to clean up. Use of disposable paper products and plastic utensils is encouraged. Troops are encouraged to develop simple menus that can be prepared easily and require minimum cleanup. Units are responsible for all meals for their participants and guests. A packable lunch is suggested for Saturday. Water Sources Latrines The site has a limited number of water sources. We are working to augment the available supply. However, it is recommended that units augment this supply by bringing some of their own water. As a general guideline you should plan on about 2 gallons per participant for the event. There will be permanent type comfort stations in the park and portable toilets located near the camping area and the activities area to handle the crowd. All ScoutJam 2016 participants are urged to keep the latrine facilities as clean as possible. Let's demonstrate to the entire community that we are good housekeepers when we camp. Hand washing Parking Hand washing and dish washing is not allowed at the water points, drinking fountains, spigots, taps, etc. Individual wash basins should be used in the campsite. Traffic and parking will be controlled by the Ranger Staff of the Lake County Forest Preserve. They will be assisted by Explorers and Service Corps groups. All participant vehicles will be parked in the Overnight Parking Area, south of the camping area. No participant vehicles are allowed in the camping or activity areas, the parking lot by the Discovery Museum or the parking lots along Ivanhoe Road or the west circle drive. Each registered unit will be allowed to park one unit vehicle (a troop trailer or an equipment vehicle) in the designated trailer parking area. Each such vehicle will be issues a parking permit that must be displayed on the vehicle at all times. A limited number of vehicles with special permits will be allowed in the activity area to support the activities. Vehicle permits must be requested and approve in advance. Permits will also be available for individuals with a valid, state issued disabled parking card. Medical Support Units are responsible for minor first aid such as small cuts and scrapes. In addition there will be First Aid stations at the camping headquarters and in the activity area. Ambulance service will be available throughout the weekend by calling 911. 8 Safety ScoutJam 2016 will be conducted in full compliance with the Guide to Safe Scouting. Due to the very confined area, no axes or sheath knives will be allowed at ScoutJam Due to the heavy pedestrian traffic in the park, bicycles are not allowed to be used during ScoutJam Campsite Security Buddy System An adult should be assigned to watch the campsite while the youth members are away. Youth members are to use the Buddy System while in the park. Webelos should always have an older scout as a buddy. Unit Leadership Every unit camping is required to have at least two adult leaders on site at all times during ScoutJam 2016 CAMP CODE The Scout Law shall govern our conduct at ScoutJam The organizers reserve the right to require any individual to leave the event. Fireworks Liquid fuels Lanterns Absolutely NO FIREWORKS are permitted on the site. Liquid Fuel under pressure is allowed on site. Adult Leaders are responsible for safe, proper use of liquid gas and propane. REMEMBER NO GROUND FIRES. No open flame light (candles, kerosene, propane or gas lanterns) will be permitted in tents at ScoutJam Electric battery lanterns are recommended. Alcohol and Drugs No Alcohol or drugs will be permitted at ScoutJam Anyone caught with such items will be asked to leave the event. Only medical prescription drugs will be allowed.
