12. CLOTHING AND EQUIPMENT A) Useful details to know Children must bring their own pillow, blanket or comforter and 2 sheet sets and pillow cases. Musical instruments are welcome and encouraged. If needed, they could be stored safely and will certainly be popular during special animation activities. If your child is a fishing enthusiast, he would probably like to have a fishing pole during his stay. Tip: provide equipment easy to use and durable. Fishing lures "Rapala" style are recommended. Dagger type and hunting knives are prohibited. All types of ipod (MP3 reader), tablets, cellular phones, laptops and electronic games do not have their place at the camp. We ask your cooperation so that they stay home. Otherwise, they will be identified and securely stored. Sunscreen As suggested by health organizations, it is wise that your child arrives at camp with a good sunscreen (minimum SPF 30 protection). We will constantly remind them to apply it. We will also make sure they wear caps and sweaters during activities that expose them to sunlight for prolonged periods. Camp Tekakwitha Page 12

Swimwear At Camp, triangles and bandeau bikinis are not accepted. In the same vein, bathing suits for boys must have a net underwear. Here are the accepted models of girls swimsuits : Camp Tekakwitha Page 13

Laundry: Since laundry is done once a week, you should plan clothes accordingly. Some children are messy quickly, so we advise you to consider this factor in your preparation. All clothing and items must be identified to the child's full name. B) Equipment list for all Campers and Pioneers (suggested list) It is preferable that baggage be in "soft" sports bags and not in "hard" suitcase. It will be easier to store them. 8 t-shirts 2-3 warm sweaters 3 pairs of sweat pants (cotton, nylon) 6 pairs of shorts 7 pairs of cotton socks 8 undergarments 2 pairs of wool socks 2 pajamas 2 bathing suits (bikinis are prohibited) 1 hat or cap 1 raincoat 2 pairs of sports shoes 1 pair of rain boots 1 pair of sandal (Crocs style is recommended) 1 laundry bag 1 blanket 2 sets of bed sheets and pillow cases 1 pillow 2 beach towels 2 sets of face cloths and towels Antibacterial Hand wipes ("Wet Ones" type) 1 bottle biodegradable shampoo/body wash (if possible) Camping backpack Sleeping bag Camping bowl and utensils Water bottle "Nalgene" type Flashlight and batteries 1 waterproof camping mattress Sunscreen (Minimum SPF 30) Insect repellent lotion Hygiene kit (Hint: A small plastic basket is practical to bring products for the shower) 2-3 "garbage" bags (to be used for camping) Camp Tekakwitha Page 14

ATTENTION! For the "EXPLORATEURS/TRICES" Program (13 years old) : For participants in our "Explos" Campers Program, here are specific items to add to the previous list, or more specific details about some pieces of equipment. We would like to remind you that the "Explos" group will have the opportunity to hike for 4 days in the Appalachian Trail. They sure don't need the level of equipment required by our "Pioneer" Program, but good material will ease the hiking trip. - 1 pair of hiking boots (make sure they use them before camp) - 1 synthetic travel towel - 1 pair of long pants - 1 warm sweater ("polar" type. Cotton hoodie is not recommended) - 2 pairs of hiking socks - 1 weatherproof wind jacket - 1 plastic cup, bowl, and spoon - 2 well identified 1 liter Nalgene type water bottles - 1 internal or external frame backpack (55 to 75 liters), with hip belt and padded straps - 1 weatherproof coverpack - 1 foam or inflatable camping mattress - 1 sleeping bag (It is important that the sleeping bag fits inside the backpack and does not use more than the third of the packing volume) - Toque and gloves - For girls, plan to bring enough tampons and sanitary pads. With physical efforts, menstruation can occur earlier than normal cycle. Camp Tekakwitha Page 15

A) Additional List for the Pioneers Program (14 to 17 years old): 1. Essential equipment for the Appalachian Trail hiking trip : Hiking Boots: Helpful Hints: When purchasing a hiking boot with long- term burden on the back, it is best to choose a high boot to protect the upper foot and provide better stability to the ankle during the walking. A leather boot offers robustness on the outside of the boot and interior comfort, the leather is a soft, durable, breathable and relatively impermeable. You can also find and buy boots in synthetic leather. They are cheaper and you will recognize some characteristics of the leather boot. WARNING: It is strongly recommended that your child break in his boots before coming to camp in order to avoid blisters! Waterproofing for boots Internal Frame Backpack : Tips and Advice: The backpack is the most important piece of equipment, so does the comfort of your kid. Remember, your child's backpack is his home. The pack must have a hipbelt and padded back straps. The total carrying volume must be of liters depending on the weight of your youth. Below 55 liters, the bag will not be usable. When buying, check: the degree of water resistance, easy access to main compartment and pockets and especially the comfort. Ask the sales clerk to help you test and adjust the backpack. Waterproof Coverpack ATTENTION : It may be included with the backpack. Ask the sales clerk. Camping Mattress : Hints and Tips: You can choose between two types of mattresses, foam or self- inflating. The self- inflating mattress is very popular for characteristics such as compression capacity, waterproof, durable, insulating and it offers superior comfort compared to foam mattress. They sell on average between $ 80 to $ 100. The foam mattress is cheaper, easy to carry and does not retain moisture. It is important to properly assess the long- term needs before investing in a self- inflating mattress. Camp Tekakwitha Page 16

Sleeping Bag : Helpful Hints: You will mainly find two types of insulation for sleeping bags: synthetic fiber or down. The synthetic fiber is less expensive and less difficult to maintain. We suggest a bag that insulates to - 7 degrees Celsius (20⁰F). Down is a better insulation and is more compact. However, it is difficult to maintain and it loses it's insulating capacity when wet or damp. It is important to consider that the sleeping bag must not occupy more than one third of the backpack. Compression Sack (for sleeping bag): Not mandatory, but very useful: sometimes sold with sleeping bag. Plastic Bags : «Zip- Lock» style, heavy duty and strong. 12 X 4 litres et 5 smaller for hygiene kit etc. Garbage Bags (4) Lightweight Sandals : Propositions : "Crocs" style or "water" sandals. Avoid leather! Travel style Towel 2 Pairs of Shorts : Tips: Try to find a breathable type of short, which can quickly wick away perspiration and dries quickly. This will reduce the risk of irritation due to moisture and sweat from the body. 1 pair of Pants : Proposal: Choose syntetic. Avoid cotton, this material gets wet, it dries quickly, it is heavy and takes up much space in the bag. Look for "quick drying" pants. Warm Sweater (Fleece style) Underwear (3) 2 Pairs of Hiking Socks : Tips and Advice: Socks made of merino wool and synthetic fibers are ideal for hiking. They wick moisture and offer the advantages of a layer system without the feeling of volume and friction associated with independent socks. T- Shirts (3) : Proposal: Polyester type t- shirt wicks moisture and dries faster. Evaluate long term needs before investing too much! Weatherproof Wind Jacket Swimsuit Sun Hat and Bandana Camp Tekakwitha Page 17

Plastic Cup, Bowl and spoon Tip : The full cookset is not required. Plastic bowl has to contain 2 cups. A fork is not recommended as it may damage the backpack. Water bottles (2): Proposal: «Nalgene» or "Platypus" style. Hiker should always carry a minimum of 2 liters of water. Water treatment Pristine or Aquamira type ClO2 30ml Water Treatment. Available in outdoor stores. Whistle (Fox 40 type) Toothbrush and Toothpaste (travel size) Insect Repellent Lotion Tip: No aerosol! Flashlight or Headlight: Don't forget a set of spare batteries! Antibacterial Wipes ("Wet Ones" type): Used in the trail to replace soap and washcloth. Toque and gloves : Bungee type cords (3) For girls, plan to bring enough tampons and sanitary pads. With physical efforts, menstruation can occur earlier than normal cycle. Camp Tekakwitha Page 18

2. Optional equipment : Pocket Knife (Swiss Army style); Gaiters (Protection for ankles and lower legs); Set of hiking boots spare laces Glasses retainer straps. For "Senior" Pioneers, plan extra clothing that will be brought and used for the second half of hiking trip. Have a nice vacation among us! See you soon! Camp Tekakwitha Page 19
