Tutka Bay Lodge Homer GULF OF ALASKA Study Leader Longtime Alaska resident Fran Ulmer has spent 30 years in public service at the local, state, and national levels. She is currently chair of the U.S. Arctic Research Commission, appointed by President Obama in March In June 2010, President Obama appointed her to the National Commission on the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill and Offshore Drilling. From 2007 to 2011, Ms. Ulmer was chancellor of the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA). Ms. Ulmer served as an elected official for 18 years as the mayor of Juneau, as a state representative, and as Lieutenant Governor of Alaska. She also spent time as Director of Policy Development for the state of Alaska. She currently sits on the National Parks Conservation Association Board and the Nature Conservancy Board, and she has joined dozens of nonprofit and government boards and commissions in Alaska such as the Denali Commission, Commonwealth North, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, March of Dimes, Salvation Army, Alaska Gas Pipeline Committee, and many more. Ms. Ulmer earned a J.D. cum laude from the University of Wisconsin Law School, and has been a fellow at the Institute of Politics at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. She is married to retired attorney Bill Council, and they have two adult children and one grandson.

3 Schedule By Day B=Breakfast, L=Lunch, D=Dinner, R=Reception SATURDAY, JUNE 10 INDEPENDENT ARRIVALS / ANCHORAGE Arrive in Anchorage by early afternoon. Privately transfer to the Anchorage Museum to explore a world-class museum with exhibits devoted to the cultures, imagination, and innovative spirit of the people of Alaska with a dedicated docent. Our welcome reception and dinner are at Crow s Nest Restaurant overlooking Cook Inlet. Overnight: Captain Cook Hotel (R, D) SUNDAY, JUNE 11 DENALI / WINTERLAKE LODGE Depart Anchorage for Mt. Denali flightseeing in the morning. Continue by float plane to Winterlake Lodge along Alaska s Iditarod Trail in the foothills just south of Mt. Denali. Hike the famous trail; take a garden tour, cooking class, fly casting class, or stretch class; enjoy a complimentary massage; paddle a canoe; and participate in a wine tasting before dinner. Overnight: Winterlake Lodge (B, L, D) WEDNESDAY, JUNE 14 BEAR VIEWING / TUTKA BAY LODGE Depart by float plane for a morning of bear viewing at a bear reserve along the remote western shore of Cook Inlet. Watch as the bears fish for salmon or cavort with their cubs. Or, opt for a few hours of sockeye salmon fishing at Redoubt Bay. Continue by float plane to Tutka Bay Lodge. Overnight: Tutka Bay Lodge (B, L, D) THURSDAY, JUNE 15 & FRIDAY, JUNE 16 TUTKA BAY Explore the marine wildlife and glaciers of Kachemak Bay by small boat. At the serene Tutka Bay Lodge, enjoy yoga, hikes in the rainforest, cooking classes, kayaking, wine tasting, and a complimentary massage. Optionally, take a water taxi to Homer to enjoy its local shops and cafes. Charters of deep sea vessels are also available for salmon or halibut fishing at additional cost. The festive farewell dinner is on June 16. Overnight: Tutka Bay Lodge (2B, 2L, 2D) MONDAY, JUNE 12 & TUESDAY, JUNE 13 WINTERLAKE LODGE Board helicopters to Canyon Creek for fly fishing and wildlife viewing, continuing to Winterlake Lodge s glacier camp in the Tordrillo Mountain area for glacier dog sledding, snowshoeing, sledding, and hiking. In the evening continue to enjoy the Lodge s many amenities. 4 Accommodations CAPTAIN COOK HOTEL Alaska s Hotel Captain Cook is Alaska s only member of Preferred Hotels & Resorts Worldwide. WINTERLAKE LODGE Situated near the western edge of the Alaska Range, Winterlake Lodge offers seclusion and spectacular scenery. Views of the Trimble Glacier and the beginnings of the Rainy Pass are visible from the lake. The area features many species of Alaskan birds, wildflowers, and berries that are difficult to see in other locales. Winterlake Lodge is located 198 trail miles northwest of Anchorage, Alaska, along Alaska s historic Iditarod Trail. The lodge sits on 15 acres, overlooking a finger-shaped two-mile lake where guests land by floatplane in the summer and ski plane in the winter. TUTKA BAY LODGE Tutka Bay Lodge sits at the head of a splendidly rugged seven-mile fjord at the southern end of Kachemak Bay, near Homer, Alaska. CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS: Upon payment of a $1,000 deposit per person, all reservations are subject to the cancellation provisions set forth below and by which the passenger agrees to be bound. Cancellations shall not be effective until they are received in writing and confirmed by Criterion Travel. Deposits are refundable (less a $250 per person administration fee) if $17,695 General Information written notice of cancellation is received within 30 days of reservation; after that, deposits are 100% nonrefundable. Final payment is due February 9, 2017 (120 days prior to departure). Cancellations within 120 days of departure are 100% nonrefundable. For this reason, we strongly urge participants to purchase trip cancellation insurance. If the program is cancelled by Criterion Travel, you will receive a full refund, without further obligation on our part. No refunds will be made for any part of this program on which you choose not to participate. Note: Criterion Travel does not accept liability for any airline cancellation penalty incurred by the purchase of a nonrefundable ticket in conjunction with this tour.
