Ranked #1 in the Jones Lang LaSalle Seaport Index for three consecutive years, the deep water Port of New York and New Jersey offers quick and easy transport of goods and products to national and international markets. Managed by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the deep water ports of Newark, Elizabeth and Bayonne, when combined with the Authority s regional air cargo network, serve as a North American gateway for international freight and a leading hub for domestic cargo. The port handles every type of cargo imaginable including containers, roll-on/rolloff automobiles (Ro-Ro), liquid and dry bulk, breakbulk and specialized project cargo, with 54 container cranes ready to handle all types of cargo. The dollar value of all cargo that moved through the port was $208 billion in FOREIGN TRADE ZONES FTZ #44 FTZ #49 FTZ #142 FTZ #200 FTZ #235 MORRIS COUNTY PORT NEWARK/ ELIZABETH MARINE TERMINAL SALEM COUNTY MERCER COUNTY AIRPORT IN TRENTON OCEAN COUNTY The ExpressRail system provides direct ocean-to-rail intermodal capabilities, with on-dock rail lines. Three port companies supply floating derricks, including the largest on the East Coast. In addition, the area hosts a wide selection of freight forwarders, brokers, financial firms, specialized export packers and other services to move cargo effciently and quickly from the port to its destination by road or rail. Major capital projects are currently underway at New Jersey s ports to ensure they are ready for future trade activity. To accommodate post-panamax activity at Port Newark/Elizabeth, a $743.3 million rebuilding project to raise the clearance of the Bayonne Bridge is currently underway. The project, which began in 2013, will raise the bridge s clearance to 215 feet to accommodate larger ships coming from Asia to the East Coast after the expansion of the Panama Canal. New Jersey also boasts one of the largest contiguous foreign trade zones in the U.S. FTZ #49 encompasses 2,100 acres at the Port Newark/Elizabeth Marine Terminal, plus another 1,800 acres at several sub-zones in the area. A major development project has also been completed at the Paulsboro Marine Terminal on the Delaware River in South Jersey. The South Jersey Port Corporation (SJPC) in conjunction with Holt Logistics Corp. constructed a new, state-of-the-art marine terminal. The 190-acre facility is the first new multi-purpose marine terminal to be constructed on the Delaware River in over 50 years and is a modern multi-faceted facility that will increase shipping capacity for a full range of commodities.
