1 Central Valley Aviation Association CVAA 2018 Activities Update 4 th Annual Remember When Classic Car Show and Classic Plane Fly-In In Memory and Honor of Pat Napolitano The Remember When event was a great success this year. It was dedicated to the memory and honor of Mr. Pat Napolitano, a well-known California aviator who flew the beautiful 1941 Beechcraft Stagger Wing called Queenie.

2 Fly-In We were able to attract 58 classic and experimental aircraft for public display. Planes were displayed, in some cases, parked next to classic cars from the same era. For the first time we had a trophy for Best of Show aircraft. The Judge was our guest of honor Colonel Bud Anderson, WWII Pilot who flew the P-51 Mustang, Old Crow to victory with 16 ¾ kills over France and Germany. The winner of the trophy was Steve Sullivan who displayed his beautiful 1947 Piper Cub painted an immaculate yellow color.

3 Aircraft Ride Program This year Golden Age Air Tours brought their perfectly restored 1939 DC-3 to Chandler. This aircraft served as the command aircraft for General Hap Arnold during WWII. It flew passengers all day long taking minute rides over Fresno and Clovis. Mr. Richard Martin, owner, said it was the most successful public ride event of this type they ever had and that they were very appreciative of the enthusiasm shown by the folks of Central Valley Aviation Association. Classic Car Display A total of 120 beautiful restored classic cars were displayed. The owners and their cars had their picture taken with the DC-3 for a memorable photo of their time at Remember When. CLICK HERE FOR PHOTOS: For the first time a nice three foot BEST OF SHOW trophy was provided; with Mr. Brian Henson winning with his fantastic Chevy C-10 Pickup.

4 American Graffiti Along with the Classic Cars, we had as guests two Hollywood celebrities from the Iconic Movie American Graffiti. Candy Clark who played Debbie, the friend of Toad and Bo Hopkins who played the part of the tough Pharaoh driving the 51 Merc made themselves available for the pictures and signed photos plus talked about the movie. They were located with the Classic Car Display area with all having a great experience. Dick Rutan and Chuck Shaheen Misty Talk Dick Rutan noted aviator who amoung many accomplishments, flew the special aircraft Voyager around the world non-stop and un-refueled was present. In addition, Dick s fellow pilot during the Misty secret flight program in the Vietnam War, Chuck Shaheen, provided a behind the scenes talk about the Misty flights and the air war. They attracted a large contingent of pilots and others to hear about their experiences.

5 Colonel Bud Anderson, WWII Hero and Triple Ace Once again, we were privileged to have Colonel Anderson come to Fresno and join us. Colonel Anderson was honored in March 2018 with a special luncheon to honor him for his services during WWII, the Korean War and all his aviation related endeavors as a civilian. Colonel Anderson was available to talk to event attendees, picture taking and signing and selling his fantastic book, To Fly and Fight. In addition to all the above activities, there were a number of booths selling everything from t-shirts to food at our famous Flight Line Café and more. CVAA was able to add to the reserve fund to keep Chandler Executive Airport a dynamic little airport and for CVAA s youth aviation program. COMING EVENTS FOR 2019 Terminal Improvement Day at Chandler Possible EAA Ford TriMotor spring ride program in FEBRUARY 2019! CVAA member tours to at least 2-3 aviation related museums and activities The 2019 Remember When event to be held on September 28, 2019 at Fresno Chandler Executive Airport. More on this later! And some other possible surprises!
