4 Multi-Day Events Version 2: 6 th October 2015 Mon., Feb 22 to Fri., Feb 26 Bondi Village Ski, Hike, etc. Rating: n/a Description: This annual gathering to be hosted this year by Diana Urquhart and Carolyn Barrfoot is a favourite. Bondi Village is a wonderful resort and the ambience provides an excellent venue for all interests. Come to relax, socialize, cross-country ski, snowshoe, hike, read, or whatever your heart desires. Ski and snowshoe right out the door on groomed trails. Great camaraderie; great fun. Everyone is responsible for their own breakfast and lunch plus an item for one evening dinner as arranged by the coordinator. Towels and bedding are supplied by Bondi as well as dishes, pots and pans, etc. Two in a room is common. Cost: The total cost is $240 for 4 nights accommodation. A non-refundable deposit is due by Friday, November 20, Cycling Thursday, October 8 Inglewood to Terra Cotta 10:00 a.m. Description: We will cycle to Terra Cotta along the base of the escarpment and return for lunch at Inglewood. If the group agrees, we can cycle east, cross Hwy 10 on the new pedestrian bridge and visit the bakery at East Caledon. Approximately 30 km round trip. Directions: Take 401 West to 410. Go North on 410 to Hwy 10 and continue North to Victoria. (approximately 4.7 km to the stop light at County Road 12). Turn West (left) at first stop sign and then turn North into Inglewood. Park at the railway crossing parking lot. Washroom facilities and picnic tables are available. We will cycle to Terra Cotta along the base of the escarpment and return for lunch at Inglewood. If the group agrees, we can cycle east, cross Hwy 10 on the new pedestrian bridge and visit the bakery at East Caledon. Approximately 30 km round trip. Please confirm attendance at least 24 hours prior to arrival. Thursday Oct. 15 Keswick to Sibbald Point Provincial Park 10:00 a.m. Description: This beautiful ride along Lake Simcoe may be enhanced by autumn colours. We lunch in the Provincial Park. Distance 45 km. Directions: Exit the 404 at Davis Drive in Newmarket. Drive West to Leslie Street where you turn North. In Keswick, Leslie Street changes to The Queensway at the Glenwoods Mall. There is a Tim Horton s here. From the mall, go west and take Metro Rd, the left fork. Turn right on Simcoe Street and right again into the Food Basic parking lot. Please confirm attendance at least 24 hours prior to arrival 4

5 Thursday, October 22 Taylor Creek/Don Valley 10:00 a.m. Rating: Moderate 35-40km Description: Cycle along the Taylor Creek Trail to the lake where we will have lunch. This ride is on paved pathways. Directions: Meet at Taylor Creek Park on Dawes Road. Take Victgoria Park Ave. South of St. Clair Ave. Keep to the right and turn onto Dawes Road. Watch for the Taylor Creek Park entrance near the bottom of the hill on the west side. Please confirm attendance at least 24hr prior to arrival Thursday, October 29 Guildwood to Pickering 10:00 a.m. Rating: An easy 40 km. ride. Description: From the Guidwood Go Station, we will cycle through the Colonel Danforth Park, along the lakeshore to the Port Pickering Marina and back. Bring a lunch, snacks and water. Directions: Meet at Guildwood Go Station ticket office. Lots of free parking. Please confirm attendance at least 24 hours prior to arrival. Hiking Thursday, October 8 Rouge Valley Fall Colours 10:00 a.m. Description: An 8 km loop in Rouge Valley followed by Dim Sum lunch (optional). Directions: Meet at parking area of Rouge River Centre on the east side of Meadowvale Rd.Take 401 Exit 389 to Meadowvale Rd. north, stay in rightmost lane, pass Sheppard Ave,follow signs and turn right to the parking area. Please call or the leader by Oct. 7 evening to confirm your participation. Tuesday, October 13, Long Sault Conservation Area Description: This will be a lovely hike through the forest as the colours should be quite stunning. A couple of easy hills. Hike:12-15 kms loop - Lunch will be back at the start. Bring water, snacks and lunch Directions: 401 to Waverly Road (1 st exit in Bowmanville), North on Waverly Road until the road splits then take Regional Road #57 (do not take Waverly Road at the split) Cross over Hwy #2 and continue north on #57, Turn right at Regional Road #20 (a short distance past the tree farm). Turn left on Woodly Road (only a few kms in sign on the left indicates no exit - that is Woodly Road. It will take 1 hour from McCowan Road & 401 which is 73 kms. Remember to give the driver money for gas which is shared among all the passengers, including the driver. Please confirm attendance at least 24 hours prior to arrival 5

6 Tuesday, October 27 Humber River Hike 10:00 a.m. Description: Starting at the Old Mill, we will hike a loop along the West side of the Humber River towards Lake Ontario, and back through the neighbourhoods on the East side. This walk is approx. 9 km long which should take about 3 hours, depending on weather and snow/ice conditions. It can always be shortened. Bring a lunch. Directions: Bloor Street West towards Etobicoke. Turn right at Old Mill Trail (past TTC Old Mill Station), turn right into Old Mill Road which turns into Catherine Street. You pass Old Mill Inn & Spa on the right. Just before crossing the Humber River bridge, turn right into the King s Mill Park parking lot. Alternatively, take the TTC Bloor Line to Old Mill Station, and follow above directions from Bloor Street. Washrooms at the Old Mill & Spa. Please confirm attendance at least 24 hours prior to arrival Thursday, November 5 Seaton Trail 10:00 a.m. Description: An 8 km leisurely hike on the newly reroute northern section of Seaton Trail. We will start from Green River Seaton Trail parking area to Whitevale and return. Optional Dim Sum lunch in Markham after the hike. Directions: Take Hwy 7 East pass Markham Rd., 9th Line, Reesor Rd., Locust Hill, Markham/Pickering Townline,For about 0.5 km east of Markham/Pickering Townline, turn right to Green River Seaton trail parking area.the parking sign is on south side of Hwy 7 and facing west. Please call or leader by Wednesday November 4 evening to confirm your participation. Tuesday, November 10 Lower Rouge 10:00 a.m. Description: A two hour walk followed by lunch at a local pub. Directions: Meet in the parking lot off of Hwy. # 2. Turn left at the camp ground sign then right into the parking lot. Thursday, November 12 Toronto Urban Walk 10:30 a.m. Description: Enjoy a walk through Toronto neighbourhoods and through a ravine from St. Clair to work up an appetite before we arrive in Chinatown. This is an easy to moderate 10 km hike, mostly on sidewalks; terrain variable. We will have lunch at a Dumpling restaurant which serves yummy Chinese dumplings in all forms fried, boiled, or steamed. Prices are under $10 for a good meal. You can make your own way home from Spadina and College. Directions: Meet at St. Clair Centre, Yonge and St. Clair. Take Yonge Subway to St. Clair, get off on the North side of the platform (St. Clair Centre) and take escalator up to main floor. We will assemble in front of the TD Bank inside the building. Please confirm attendance at least 24 hours prior to arrival 6

7 Thursday,November 19 Davisville Loop Hike 10:30 a.m. Rating: A moderate 10 km. urban loop hike. Description: From the Davisville Subway Station, we will hike through the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, the Moore Park Ravine, the David Balfour Park and back to the Davisville Subway Station. Optional lunch at a local eatery. Directions: Meet at the Davisville Subway Station, street level. Please confirm attendance at least 24 hours prior to arrival. Tuesday, November 24 Greenwood Conservation Area 10:00 a.m. Description: Greenwood Conservation area, located north of Pickering, has many trails that pass through a varied wooded landscape. We will pass along river banks and scenic look outs on our way to the Pickering Museum where we will have lunch. Washrooms are available at the start of the trail and at the lunch stop. We meet at the entrance of the park but if the gate is open, drive through to the parking lot at the park building. Directions: From the 401, go north on Westney Rd. past Taunton. The entrance to Greenwood is approximately 1 km north of Taunton. There is good signage on the right side of the road.for the left hand turn. Drive a short distance to the "T"; turn right and follow the road to the entrance of the park. Thursday, December 3 Upper Rouge Valley 10:00 a.m. Description: A challenging 8 km loop in Upper Rouge Valley with a few steep and narrow sections. Hiking boots and sticks are helpful. We will meet at Twyn River Road parking area. Optional after hike coffee social in nearby Tim Hortons. Directions: Take 401 Exit 389 Meadowvale Rd. north, turn right at Sheppard Ave, pass a church and turn left totwyn River Rd., pass a steel bridge and then a concrete bridge, follow the road and turn right to parking area. Please call or leader by Wednesday November 4 evening to confirm your participation Thursday, December 10 Hike & Brewery Tour 10:00 a.m. Description: We will walk the Don Valley Trail and Waterfront Trail about 8km from Broadview Station to the Steamwhistle Brewery. The walk will be about 2 hours, followed by a minute tour of the brewery. We will go for lunch at a local restaurant before returning to Broadview station by TTC. Directions: Meet at the entrance to the Broadview subway station (east side of Broadview) Cost: $10 for the tour, plus a sample of Pilsner and a souvenir tasting glass or retro bottle opener. It is essential that you register by Tuesday, December 8 so I can advise the brewery how many people will be coming 7

8 Tuesday, December 15 Walker Woods 10:00 a.m. Description: From 8 12 km, depending on conditions, through the (sometimes confusing) trails of Walker Woods. Check conditions beforehand. Could be muddy. If it's likely to be icy bring icers, maybe even snowshoes, lunch and a foam pad to sit on. Directions: Meet at the parking lot at Concesion 7 and Albright Rd. From Hwy 401 go north on Brock Road 24km to Goodwood Rd, turn right (east) and go 4.2km to Concession 7, turn right (south) and go 2 km to the parking lot on the right (sign reads East Duffins Headwaters ) Please call by Monday evening to confirm your participation. Contemplative & Social Outings Tuesday, Sept. 29th Annual BBQ 10:00 a.m. Description: Food is provided and organized prior to the event, so register early to help the organizers plan food and help requirements. This is agreat opportunity to introduce new members to the club, so bring a friend or family member. Directions: To be held at E.T. Seton Park. Please let Susan know early if you intend to attend the BBQ Tuesday, October 20 Toronto History Walk 10:30 a.m. Description: Come and join Richard from Muddy York Walking Tours and walk along the route of the disappeared Taddle Creek. We will learn the history of some of the historic landmarks that have been built on top of it. This is a 2 hour linear tour starting at the ROM and ending near the Eaton Center Both locations easy access to the subway and TTC. Cost: $10 which can be paid at the time. Directions: Meet outside the main door of the ROM at 10:30 Please confirm attendance before 16 th Tuesday, November 17 th SFNOC 30 th Anniversary Lunch 12:00 a.m. Details to follow Date TBA Cityscape 10:00 a.m. Description: We shall stroll the streets looking at public art and architecture.
