Venerable Rosalie Cadron-Jetté

1 Online of three capsules on Rosalie Cadron-Jetté on the website of the Catholic Church of Montreal. These capsules are presented by Hélène Grégoire, vice-postulator of the canonization cause of Rosalie Cadron-Jetté. Totaling fifteen minutes, they illustrate the civil and religious life of Rosalie and her canonization cause. Venerable Rosalie Cadron-Jetté Rosalie s mother dies. She was paralyzed and had been deprived of her mental faculties for some seven years. Rosalie took care of her all those years. For the third time, Rosalie receives the sacrament of the sick from Father Ubald Huberdeault. In 1854, she first received it at the hands of Msgr Ignace Bourget, following a suffocation crisis. In February 1864, Msgr Bourget administered the last rites to her once again.

2 Msgr Bourget visits Rosalie for the last time on the eve of April 4th. He blessed her and recommended himself to her prayers, asking her to come and get him once she s crossed over to a better life. But she said to the Bishop that she would do no such thing because the diocese still needed him and that when it would please God to call him home, it would still be soon enough. (Positio, v.i, p. 272) Death of Rosalie, around two o clock in the morning. Sister Marie-des-Saints-Anges tells us : I witnessed her blessed death. I kept watch over her with our good Sister Sainte-Béatrix. Around 2 a.m., she made the sign of the cross and asked us to recite the litanies of the Virgin Mary; then she seemed to get ready to go to sleep and then, loudly enough to be heard, she said: Misericordia Sisters Museum Oh my Jesus! Then I noticed she was getting weaker, so we moved the light closer to her; she had already gone over to a better life. The date was April 5, (Positio, v.i, p.272)

3 When she died, Rosalie left behind 33 profess sisters, 5 novices and 6 postulants. Between May 1 st 1845 and April 5 th 1864, the community received 2244 girls and women who were pregnant and unmarried, many of whom later consecrated their life to God. Also, a large number of poor women received assistance in their own home. When Rosalie died, six of her children were still alive and married. Four of these gave her 41 grand-children, and she also became a great grandmother. The anniversary of Rosalie s death is celebrated by the Community on the first Sunday after Easter, also known as Divine Mercy Sunday.

4 Opening of the celebrations of the Venerability of Rosalie Cadron Jetté with a Thanksgiving Mass celebrated in the chapel at the Misericordia Sisters Motherhouse in Cartierville. Mr. the Cardinal Jean-Claude Turcotte presided over this celebration where the Misericordia Sisters are accompanied by the members of the Heritage Group and the francoiphones members of the International Misericordia Family. It also highlights the 150e anniversary of Rosalie s death. Rosalie s funeral and burial are presided by Msgr Ignace Bourget. The imprimatur for the book entitled Rosalie Cadron-Jetté. Une histoire d audace et de compassion is granted.

5 Letter from Pope Francis to the Misericordia Sisters Community and the members of the International Misericordia Family in which he bestows his most heartfelt blessings upon the International Misericordia Family, Sisters and lay persons, and all those to whom they are sent, especially those experiencing difficulties and suffering. The Hospice Sainte-Pélagie is moved from Wolfe Street to the Donegana House located at the corner of Sainte-Catherine and Saint-André Streets. This house belonged to Mr. J.A. Donegani, a benefactor. The imprimi potest for the book entitled Explorations spirituelles avec Rosalie Cadron-Jetté is granted.

6 Françoise Pascals, an artist of Lavaltrie, donates an oil painting entitled «The Miracle» to the Maison Rosalie-Cadron, which is a reminder of the tradition claiming that the night she died, Rosalie was seen watching over her protégées in the dormitory. Birth of a fifth child to Rosalie and Jean-Marie Jetté in Lavaltrie. It is a girl. She is baptized on May 1 st in the Saint-Antoine parish of Lavaltrie and given the name Léocadie.
