NOTICE CHLORINE FLUSH OF THE DRINKING WATER SYSTEM Begins June 25, 2018 and ends on July 15, 2018 The City of Oviedo will be performing a maintenance chlorine flush of the City's Drinking Water

Some residents may notice a slight chlorine taste and/or chlorine odor in the water.

2 NOTICE CHLORINE FLUSH OF THE DRINKING WATER SYSTEM Begins June 25, 2018 and ends on July 15, 2018 The City of Oviedo will be performing a maintenance chlorine flush of the City's Drinking Water Distribution System. During this period, the City's Drinking Water Distribution System will use a free chlorine residual in the water instead of the usual chloramines disinfectant. Some residents may notice a slight chlorine taste and/or chlorine odor in the water. Fish owners and individuals on kidney dialysis need to take necessary precautions during the chlorine flush of the system. As we focus on our travel plans, keep in mind that while you may take a vacation, criminals don't take a summer break. Always keep in mind that criminals may be sharing your day with you.

4 The Chief s Corner Stay Safe While Traveling During the Summer Summertime is here, youth are out of school, and many Oviedo residents are planning to visit their out of the area family or to go on a vacation. There is a police saying I have heard before that "summer is here and half of Oviedo will be visiting grandparents". In most cases, this will entail out of the area travel. As we focus on our travel plans, keep in mind that while you may take a vacation, criminals don't take a summer break. Always keep in mind that criminals may be sharing your day with you. There are some things you should do to safeguard your home before leaving on vacation or visiting family out of the area. Ensure you lock your doors before leaving. It does happen. Unlocked garage and patio doors seem to be those most often forgotten doors to be locked. Ask a trusted family member, friend, or neighbor to keep an eye out on your home. Have your mail held at the post office until you return. Put lights on timers so it appears the house is occupied. Don't post on social media that you are leaving town and wait to post photos until after you return from your vacation. Keep up those car safety tips you developed in Oviedo by always locking your car doors when you leave your car. If you must leave possessions in your car, keep them out of sight or hidden in the trunk. Lock your car doors once you enter your vehicle. Refuse to have a victim mindset by monitoring activity around your family for strangers who seem to be watching you or getting too close. As I have mentioned in other newsletters, criminals prefer easy victims who are not paying attention to their surroundings. They prefer the victim who tells the police "the thief came out of nowhere when he stole the item from me." The thief did not come out of nowhere. Protect your loved ones and personal property by minimizing the chance for them to steal from you. Remember to service your vehicle before any trip. This can prevent accidents with other vehicles. Make sure your tire pressure is correct and that you have proper tire tread. This applies especially in Florida where rainstorms can be daily, strong, and gusty. Make sure your spare tire is inflated and that you have proper tools if you are going to change it yourself. Please, please, please, while driving you should maintain your attention on the road. Distracted driving such as texting is illegal and dangerous. Focus on the road to keep yourself and your family safe. As Chief of Police it is my job to keep you safe in the City. I also want you to be safe when you leave the City. I want all my citizens to return safely to Oviedo. You are what make working in the City such a pleasure. 5 Recreation and Parks Programs Indoor Cycling - (ages 16 and up) Tuesday and Thursday evenings (6-7pm). Daily rates apply. The first trial class is free! Packages of 20 visits or an unlimited annual option are available for purchase. Start Smart Golf - (ages 5 to 7) Registration is underway through July 19th or until full. Classes begin August 6th. Call for more information. Youth Basketball - (ages 5 to 17) Registration is currently underway through August 8th or until full. Games begin September 8th. Call for more information. Youth Volleyball - (ages 8 to 14) Registration is currently underway through August 8th or until full. Games begin September 10th. Call for more information. Youth Flag Football - (ages 5 to 14) Registration is underway through August 15th or until full. Games begin September 15th. Call for more information. Family Bingo - Friday, July 13th at Riverside Par k. Games start at 6:30 p.m. Car ds are $4 each with a 5 card maximum. Space is limited and all players are admitted on a first come, first served basis. Concession stand will be open for snacks and beverages. Call for more information. SNAP Club - Wednesday, July 18th at River side Park from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. This pr ogr am is designed specifically for those with special needs, teenage and up. Participants must be accompanied by a companion. Activities include games, craft time, potlucks, bingo, and more! Call for more information. Splash Zone Birthday Party - Registration is now underway. These fill up quickly, so do not delay until summer. Schedule your party today! Register at the Gymnasium and Aquatic Facility. Call for more information. Junior Lifeguard Camp - This program is for pre-teens (ages 10-14). This 4-day class teaches your pre-teen the basics of lifeguarding to prepare them to take the official Lifeguarding course when they turn 15 years of age.
