3 3 THE NEW LOOK COMPANION THIS ISSUE OF THE COMPANION HAS BEEN REDUCED IN CONTENT FROM THE PAGES IN THE PAST TO 14 PAGES. REDUCTION WAS ACCOMPLISHED BY REDUCING THE NUMBER OF IMAGES. IN THE PAST, THE GOAL WAS TO INCLUDE AN IMAGE OF EVERYONE AT THE LUNCHEON AS BEST AS I COULD. THIS WILL NO LONGER BE THE OBJECTIVE BUT I WILL TRY TO INCLUDE IMAGES OF THOSE NOT SHOWN IN THIS ISSUE IN SUBSEQUENT ISSUES. THE CHANGE IS FOR SELFISH REASONS, TO REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF TIME I SPEND ON EACH ISSUE. EDITOR PHONE NUMBER CHANGES MEMBER INFORMATION CHANGES Nancy Burnhardt Don Gill (MINUTES CONTINUED FROM PAGE 2) now closed. A special thanks to Mal Hanson for its existence for all these twenty something years. After paying the Gazebo, there was a $ loss. Adding the $127 taken in by the 50/50 raffle, there was a total loss of $ The 50/50 raffle winners were Ray Culbertson ($64), Jim Matthews ($38), and Ed Rzepecki ($25). Note: The Gazebo informed us that the price for each dinner will remain the same as ($13.50 plus 18% tax and gratuity) = $15.93 per meal. No action was taken by the board; the price of meals to remain at $14 for prepaid and $19 at the door GOLF: Bob Roth reported that although attendance was down a bit this year, the Golf outings will be continued next year. ADJOURNMENT: Moved by Ray Culbertson, 2 nd by Larry Marshick to adjourn, motion passed. The Board Meeting was adjourned by President Larry Marshick at 2:12PM. Ed Pauly Secretary SOME HUMOR FROM CARL WELLENKOTTER A hooded robber burst into a Texas bank and forced the tellers to load a sack full of cash. On his way out the door, a brave Texas customer grabbed the hood -- and pulled it off, revealing the robber's face. The robber shot the customer without a moment's hesitation. He then looked around the bank and noticed one of the tellers looking straight at him. The robber instantly shot her, also. Everyone else, by now very scared, looked intently down at the floor in silence. The robber yelled, "Did anyone else see my face?" There are a few moments of utter silence -- in which everyone was plainly afraid to speak. Then one old man tentatively raised his hand and replied, "My wife got a pretty good look at you...

7 7 SAVE THE DATE DON T FORGET THE ANNUAL CERC CHRISTMAS PARTY DETAILS ON THE FLYER ON PAGE 11 REASONS FOR COMING? SEE THE FOLLOWING - WILL YOU MISS THE BEST DEAL OF THE YEAR? Your C.E.R.C. board and committee people have been planning for a great afternoon and the best deal you re likely to find anywhere, the annual CERC Christmas party. If you were there in past years, you know the great times we have. Socializing with friends of many years and their spouses. The Gazebo s great food with some extra treats added. A free open bar serving wine, beer, and mixed drinks. Convenient parking. Music to listen to or dance to that doesn t hinder conversation. An after dinner delight, Jerry Bozaan will again entertain all with his senior oriented humor that has been enjoyed at the past five parties. Again each member will get a chance to draw his or her LUCKY ENVELOPE holding $30, $40, $50, or $100. What a fantastic bargain! Members pay $25 and win between $30 and $100 bucks and get all the above to boot. Now s the time to start planning. Talk to your CERC friends and assemble your favorite group for a really good time. Those that were at last year s party, please spread the word on the great time that was had by all. WE TRULY HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE THIS YEAR. Sincerely, Your C.E.R.C board and committee chair people MORE PHOTOS FROM THE OCTOBER 11, 2016 CERC LUNCHEON DUANE RUSHLOW GEORGE OLIVER JOHN JONAS BOB GAILEY GUY LaFALCE

8 8 Talking Dog For Sale A guy is driving around the back woods of West Virginia and he sees a sign in front of a broken down shanty-style house: "Talking Dog For Sale". He rings the bell and the owner appears and tells him the dog is in the backyard. The guy goes into the backyard and sees a nice looking Labrador retriever sitting there. "You talk?" he asks. "Yep," the Lab replies. After the guy recovers from the shock of hearing a dog talk, he says "So, what's your story?" The Lab looks up and says, "Well, I discovered that I could talk when I was pretty young. I wanted to help the government, so... I joined the CIA. "In no time at all they had me jetting from country to country, sitting in rooms with spies and world leaders, because no one figured a dog would be eavesdropping. "I was one of their most valuable spies for eight years running. "But the jetting around really tired me out, and I knew I wasn't getting any younger so I decided to settle down. I signed up for a job at the airport to do some undercover security, wandering near suspicious characters and listening in. I uncovered some incredible dealings and was awarded a batch of medals. "I got married, had a mess of puppies, and now I'm just retired." The guy is amazed. He goes back in and asks the owner what he wants for the dog. Ten dollars, the guy says. Ten dollars? This dog is amazing! Why on earth are you selling him so cheap? Because he's a BS artist. He's never been out of the yard.
