Three statewide camps will be held at the Iowa 4-H Center near Madrid. Adventures in nature are only part of the experiences young people will have at our 4 or 5 night 4-H STEM Summer Camps. 4-H STEM Camps offer a hands-on approach to developing the excitement and skills necessary for youth to succeed in a safe and fun setting. The 4-H Camp Program starts youth on the path to becoming informed citizens and the next generation of scientists and engineers that we need for our communities to thrive. Using our research based Experiential Learning Model in a safe outdoor setting allows youth to connect what they are learning to their daily lives. The dates and themes of the three camps are: June 5-9 STEM Survival Camp (5th 7th Grades); Would you know what to do if a zombie apocalypse were to actually happen? What about a natural disaster of epic proportions? We have just the place to learn the skills you may need. June Science Explorers Camp (5th 7th Grades); Do you enjoy taking things apart? Do you like to take a close look at the world around you? Explore nature and history in central Iowa. Come and find out how local plants thrive, how birds fly, why Iowa soil is black, and how people have lived on the land. By the end of this week you will have a better understanding of how the world works. July June Design Condensed (10th 12th Grades) This immersive experience will help you get a sense of what it is like to be in college. Days will be spent at the College of Design on the Iowa State campus, engaging in a series of college-structured courses.
