1 Annual summary of projects The Sustainable Development Fund (SDF) aims to support projects that result in positive benefits for the National Park, its environment, its economy, and its communities. In the last 12 months the Fund has enjoyed a busy year, which has resulted in nearly 140,000 being committed to 31 worthwhile projects. These include initiatives to: Improve community facilities: New extension to provide improved facilities at Kettlewell Village Hall ( 10,000) Installation of energy efficiency measures at,grassington Town Hall ( 5,915) Refurbishment of the Peoples Hall in Sedbergh including thermal efficiency ( 3,000) Refurbishment of the first floor of Ravenstonedale s Community and Heritage Centre to enable the space to be used by the community ( 9,456) Clapham Village Store s internal retail offer will be expanded with a grant from the Authority s Sustainable Development Fund. Clapham Community Shop Ltd. The creation of additional space within Clapham Village Store ( 500)

2 Improve the appearance of towns and villages: Enhancement works to Sedbergh Information Centre Garden ( 5,000) Enhancement works to improve links between the garden and the Joss Lane market area, YDNPA. Installation of replacement railings next to the waterfalls in West Burton ( 4,350) Improvements to a small community area in known as Thorpe Triangle ( 864) Enhancement works for a community broadband installation in Linton Village ( 1,125) Promote access and recreation opportunities for all: Creation of two walking trails (Geology and Quakers) by Sedbergh Walking and Cycling Group ( 2,626) A walkers guide book by Where2walk focusing on a Dales 30 peaks challenge ( 7,000) Running costs and promotion for a summer bus service in the north/west of the National Park run by The Dales and Bowland CIC ( 4,350) Development of a cycling activities programme in Wensleydale by Stage 1 Cycles ( 1,355) Updating a socio-economic report for reinstatement of the Wensleydale Railway between Redmire and Aysgarth ( 4,999) A new interpretation and sculpture trail at Kilnsey Park ( 9,882) Creating a safer section of the Way of the Roses cycle route in Cracoe by Sustrans ( 2,242)

3 Improvements to infrastructure: Installation of community fibre broadband scheme by Broadband for the Rural North (B4RN) Ireby village ( 5,000) Installation of community air borne broadband scheme for Raydaleside ( 5000) Celebrate the special qualities of the area: Promotion of a 3 day Medieval Music Festival at Bolton Castle on 2-4 September 2016 ( 700) Book and online learning resource about the history of Kilnsey Show by the Upper Wharfedale Agricultural Society ( 4,850) A festival to celebrate the Chinese Year of the Sheep in Sedbergh held in September 2015 by Farfield Mill Arts and Heritage Centre ( 5,000) A 2 day cycling festival, Sedbergh Walking and Cycling Group June 2016 ( 3,000) Conserve and raise awareness of important heritage: Restoration of 3 historic road signs for Downholme, Hudswell Parish Council ( 1,682) Claire Swainston from Hudswell Parish Council being presented with the SDF grant by YDNPA s Chairman, Peter Charlesworth YDNPA.

4 Refurbishment of the upper floor of a Grade II Listed Building to create exhibition space, Keld Resource Centre ( 10,000) Railway workers Memorial stone, storyboard and leaflet, St John s Church in Cowgill ( 1,700) Promote thriving food, craft and tourism businesses: Developing the Ales Way Trail, Upper Wharfedale CIC ( 3,000) 4 minute promotional film of Sedbergh by Sedbergh Chamber of Trade ( 916) Refurbishment works, Craft Workshop Co-operative, 61 Main Street in Sedbergh ( 3,000) Janet Phillips (Craft workshop member) being presented with the SDF cheque by Cllr Nick Cotton (YDNPA Member) and Mark Allum (YDNPA s Recreation & Visitor Manager, YDNPA). YDNPA. Installation of wood briquette making machine to create wood fuel from shavings, Kent Furniture ( 4,500)

5 Celebrate and raise awareness of land management: Educational programme focusing on river bank erosion, The Yorkshire Dales Rivers Trust ( 5,000) Better understanding and management of important wildlife habitats and species: Surveying and monitoring red squirrels in Garsdale by the Red Squirrel Group ( 4,580) The Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority s Sustainable Development Fund (SDF) aims to support small scale projects that result in positive benefits for the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Any scheme will be eligible for consideration providing it will Contribute in some way to conserving the Yorkshire Dales National Park and or promote the public enjoyment of it Provide a range of environmental, social and economic benefits in the National Park.
