2 GET-AROUND GAZETTE PAGE 2 A MESSAGE FROM JOE GARR, MEMBERSHIP Hello Folks Legends in Glendora usually have a car show the first Sunday of the month. Debbie and I showed up and there was only one classic car in the parking lot, then it hits us that this is Super Bowl Sunday. But it was still worth it because the other car that was there happen to be a beautiful 1929 Packard touring car. We celebrated two amazing President s birthday in February; of course I am talking about Presidents Washington and Lincoln. They were truly great Americans. On Feb. 17 th we made the trip to Tom s Farm. It was a beautiful day for a drive in our corvettes. Once we arrived we explored the different venues. After lunch a few of us bellied up to the bar for some wine tasting. Thank you Dorothy for hosting a fun day. Dorothy called and told me there was a very good turn out at the monthly social. This time it was at Max s in Monrovia. Thank you Don for arranging the Social Dinners. We lost a wonderful member of our corvette family. Gig Zak-Rallo passed and our condolences go out to Jack and her entire family. Rest in peace dear lady. Lastly, it looks like we will have a small but fun group going to the Grand Canyon after the Gambler s Classic. If anyone else is interested please make your reservations with AAA as soon as you can. See you all later. 3 GET-AROUND GAZETTE PAGE 3 Hidden Fluids MARCH TECH TALK FROM OUR PRESIDENT ED MORGAN Many items and fluids are under the hood and not looked at very often. Forgetting about these fluids can be very expensive C1 thru C6 brake fluid if it is black, the boiling point has been lowered from 285 to less than 200 degree s, needs changing Power steering, if it smells burnt it needs to be changed Coolant, if it s over 5 years old, change it, if your are using Preston green coolant change every year Transmission fluid, service it every 60,000 miles. Differential fluid does not last forever, newer cars with smaller capacity need service more often.. C1 thru C3 had 4 quarts, C5 and C6 have 1 1/2 quarts, C7 has 6 1/2 quarts and needs service every 40,0000. C6 and C7 have cabin air filters, service every 25,000. Rats can get into cabin air filters C7 if someone offers to change the power steering fluid be wary, it s electric steering Our Sponsor can service these items, call Richard at Corvette Specialist Questions: morg74aol.com

5 GET-AROUND GAZETTE PAGE 5 There is a program that is good for Ronald McDonald House families, and the environment. If we all do just a little, it can make a BIG difference in our community. Pop Tab Collection Program, these are the tabs on soda and beer cans. If you can just pop them off and save them in a little baggie, bring them to the meeting and we will collect them to donate to the Ronald McDonald House. This is something we have done in the past, and a good thing to start again. At this point Valerie Simola will be collecting, but any board member can take and pass them on. 6 GET-AROUND GAZETTE PAGE 6 ACTIVITIES/PARTICAPATION 2018 By Dorothy McCain/ Activities Director This month on March 18, we will have our First Car of the Year Judging at Brackett Field. Matt Hinson has organized this 1st of three judging's this year. I believe, if you have your car judged at all three judging's, your lowest score will be eliminated making this a good event to practice on, and have time to improve your score. It was a gorgeous day for our Run to Tom s Farm on February 17. It looked like everyone had a great time checking out the shops and restaurants. Reminder You have until our April meeting to sign up and pay for the Mystery Run on Saturday, May 19. Without giving it away, we will caravan to the activity and then have lunch at a local restaurant. For $10. and the cost of your lunch, this is going to be a unique and new experience. NEW EVENT: Randy Skillman has set up an event at the Nethercutt Museum for Saturday, March 24. This is a very interesting museum that includes an extensive collection of unique and pristine cars as well as a Wurlitzer organ and caboose. For $5. and the cost of lunch after this is an event you won t want to miss. As a personal note, I am Leading Knight at the Elks, and my main job is charity. With respect to that, the Arcadia Elks are putting on a Casino Night Saturday, March 17, and all are invited. Tickets are $25. and include script to start your gambling, a raffle ticket with finger food available throughout the night. Tickets can be purchased at the bar in the lounge. The money raised at this event will go mainly towards the Arcadia Elks Scholarship Fund and other Elk charities. At Tom s Farm we ran into some members of North County Corvettes and happened to start talking to the chairman of the Plastic Fantastic Car Show, which is being held on May 20. He told us that they are limiting the number of the cars this year to avoid the confusion and crowding of last year. Tony DiGiovanni has led the group in the past, and I m hoping he ll do it again this year. Let Tony know if you are interested in going. April 28, is the All Chevy Car Show put on by Vette Set. This is a very good show with a nice venue. In the past Corvettes Limited has participated and done very well in club participation and trophies. Would anyone like to take charge of organizing a run to this show? This is a NCCC sanction event and NCCC competition points will be awarded. Several people have told me they are interested in putting on an event in the future. Please let me know the date so I can put it on the calendar to avoid possible conflicts. I ll need a flyer about 2 months in advance, but we can do a Save the Date to get your event started, and even get help with the flier. In the past, we have had a chili cook off, where you bring a crockpot of chili and we taste and judge. It would be fun to bring that back. I have someone who volunteered their house (with a pool), but they would like someone else to organize the event and coordinate the chili judging. If you would like to step up, please let me know and I ll put you two together. Also, I have a couple of ideas for events if you want to do something, but don t know what to do. We can always use a run like Tom s Farm where you have a nice drive and then a lunch somewhere. Quick and simple. Just let me know and it s on the Calendar.
7 RUN TO TOM S FARM By Carrie Edwards Evans The morning of Saturday, February 17 was a bright, clear, blue sky California Winter s Day; A perfect day to get our cars on the road. A group of 19 Club members gathered at the McDonald's San Dimas. After taking care of the necessities; signing release forms, coffee for a few, and requisite photos we rolled out about 10:30am for a drive to Tom s Farm in Corona. With Dorothy McCain leading we experienced moderate traffic until we neared Corona where we had a bit of a slow down. We were not deterred, arriving at Tom s Farm about 11:30 am as planned. First up, near the entrance, was a small craft fair, perhaps 8 to 10 booths, to browse through. Jewelry seemed to attract the most interest. Our group soon moved on to the other shops, exploring at a leisurely pace. By the time we arrived at the wine and cheese shop most of the group were ready for lunch. Some wanted burgers while others wanted Mexican or BBQ so we split up to find the food type of our choice. The group that went for Mexican and BBQ had the bonus of chatting with several members of the North County Corvette Club. One of them happened to be the Chairman of their Club s annual Plastic Fantastic charity car show that s coming up. He graciously invited our members to attend. After appetites were satiated, members returned to the shops for a bit of serious shopping. Several went for wine tasting; others to shop for freshly baked bread (still warm from the oven) and farm fresh produce. The strawberries were spectacular! Those who didn t care to shop found chairs outside the furniture store. It was a nice spot to rest comfortably while waiting for the shoppers to return. As it neared 3 pm, most were thinking about heading home. It was time for an enjoyable day to come to an end. Our thinks to to Dorothy for sponsoring the outing. More Banquet Snaps. Thank you Shelly Gray for many of the photos
