3 Mooseheart s Centennial Celebration July Years of Giving Hope to Kids in Need Ever since its dedication on July 27, 1913, Mooseheart Child City & School has given a home, education and stability to more than 12,000 children from across the continent, and the world. Exactly 100 years later Saturday, July 27, 2013 will be an all-day celebration of Mooseheart s mission and successes, as thousands of Moose members, Mooseheart alumni and members of the community will mark the history and the future of the community, with a 100-minute fun run, hours of free live entertainment, a carnival, food-and-beverage tents, fireworks at dusk and by breaking ground on a $10 million renovation project of Mooseheart School. From 9 a.m. through until after dark, it s the Mooseheart Centennial Celebration! The bottom line is Mooseheart would not exist if it wasn t for the ongoing support and generosity of the men and women of the Moose, said Mooseheart Executive Director Gary Urwiler. We are looking forward to celebrating the grand occasion with our Moose members and Mooseheart students, and kicking off the next 100 years of service to children of need. A rededication ceremony for Mooseheart, honoring Mooseheart founder James J. Davis and first Superintendent Rodney Brandon, and featuring remarks from former U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert, will highlight festivities at 11 a.m. Preceding, at 9 a.m., will be the 100-minute Centennial Challenge Walk/Run; and following throughout the afternoon will be a full carnival and pony rides, musical entertainment throughout the day including Rick K and the Allnighters and the Beatles tribute band American English, food/beer/soft drink tents, a petting zoo, a groundbreaking ceremony for the Mooseheart School renovation, and at dusk, a spectacular fireworks display. For a full, up-to-date schedule, visit For members who are unable to attend the Mooseheart Centennial festivities, please consider hosting a fundraiser or making a donation to the $10 million renovation project of the school. 4 Moose Riders Newsletter Wins Top Award Moose Rider Group gets Honorable Mention for Best News 4 A Editor s Editor of Pipes, I m pleased to announce that we took home 2 awards this year for the Moose International Journalism Awards Honorable Mention in the Best News Story category for an article submitted by Dave Carlile of Riverview about the Cookson Toy Run last December. The wonderful photo of Kay Carlile and one of the toy recipients that appeared on the cover of the January issue made everyone smile when they saw it. Congrats to Dave and the Riverview Moose Riders for taking part in such an inspirational and generous event and for writing their way to a Journalism award. And finally, after years of submitting articles, our official unofficial Moose Riders newsletter Pipes took the top award for General Excellence for a State/Provincial Association Publication. That s like hitting it out of the ballpark, folks. This is major recognition for Moose Rider Activity Groups all over the country. Without your support and your wonderful news articles, Pipes wouldn t exist. From the bottom of my heart, I thank all of you and encourage you to keep up the excellent fundraising work and keep sending me news! Joan Fedora

9 Saturday May 18th 2013 Mooseheart Bike Blessing 10th Blessing Pushes 10 Year Total to over $100,000 did the assembled Moose Riders witness the always stirring Bike Blessing at Mooseheart s House Of God (or HOG), but they were also welcomed at the Lombard Moose Lodge Bike Blessing Founder s Celebration the Friday night before, and the St. Charles Moose Lodge hosted Breakfast and Mooseheart Essay and Laptop ceremony on the Sunday after. ast year s one day tally of registration fees and donations for the 9 th Annual Mooseheart Bike Blessing was $17, with ridership at an all-time high of 367 bikes carrying 451 riders. Even though we pulled out all the stops for the 10 th Anniversary Mooseheart Bike Blessing, including vendors, bands, food and special guest Moose Rider Erik Estrada all on campus, the 2013 attendance slipped to 331 bikes carrying a little over 400 riders. That s the bad news. The good news is that even though we experienced a downturn in attendance, big hearted Moose Riders and supporting groups like Illinois Blue Knights II and Aurora Chariots for Christ came through in an amazing way to bring in a one day total donations of $27,417.16, eclipsing last year s total by an impressive $10, Moose Riders made the trek from California, Connecticut, Iowa, Florida, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Texas, and of course Illinois for the Mooseheart Bike Blessing weekend of events. Not only The highlights of the day s donations included donated checks from Blue Knights Illinois II ($500.00), Freeport, IL Lodge #162 ($200.00), Iowa City, IA Lodge #1096 ($500.00), Lewistown, PA Lodge #143 ($5,100.00), Lombard, IL Moose Lodge #2350 ($795.00,) Marian, NC Lodge #1705 ($461.00), Monterey, CA Lodge #876 Moose Riders ($7,000.00), O'Fallon, IL Lodge #2608 & Chapter #2281 ($201.00), Rock Island, IL Lodge #190 ($300.00), and the South Hill, VA Lodge #1872 from LOOM, WOTM, Moose Legion, and Moose Riders ($800.00). Even the 50/50 winner donated back his take in the name of the Lombard Moose Riders! So far the Monterey Moose Riders are in the lead for the 2013 Mark Tiny Metcalf Big Heart award, with the Lewistown Riders in second place. Remember, your Moose Rider Lodge or Association group can win the Big Heart award by simply being the highest dollar donor to Mooseheart Operating through Moose Charities between the date of the Mooseheart Bike Blessing and September 2 nd, 2013 (see: EventIdeas.pdf). No less important than our attendees, were the Bike Blessing sponsors and supporters including A.B.A.T.E., Accident Scene Management, Accutrak sound and lights, Alley 64 Restaurants, City Limits Harley- Davidson and the entire Windy City family of dealerships, Eagle Riders Rental, Elgin (continued on next page) 9

10 Distributors, The Eliminator Band, Foremost Insurance, Hupy & Abraham, KHITS Radio, Law Tigers, Rescue Riders, T-Dogs Bar-B-Q, The Southern Jack Band, and the amazing Moose International, Blue Knights, and Chariots for Christ volunteers. We could not pull off this annual Moose Rider/motorcycle celebration without you. We d like to express our appreciation to the Safe Surfin foundation s Jason Campbell and Eddie Worth for arranging to have the tireless Erik Estrada join us for the day, and to Erik himself for meeting and greeting everyone. Last year I threw out a statement saying: We hope you ll plan on attending the 10 th Anniversary Mooseheart Bike Blessing & Festival and help us break the $100, mark and then some!, bearing in mind that up to that point The Bike Blessing, ticket sales for the Bull Moose Chopper, and previous MR4K events had raised a total of $84, With this year s one day donations, you ve brought that total up to an impressive $111, with more MR4K donations to come. That s an extraordinary Blessing that Moose Riders have bestowed on the children of Mooseheart, in a very short time. We thank you for that, and look forward to more participation next year. 13 St. Charles Lodge Hosts Breakfast and Laptop Presentation Lovin L.I.F.E. the Moose Riders Way St. Charles Moose Riders pose with Erik Estrada at the Lodge. The 10 th Annual Blessing of the Bikes was celebrated on Saturday, May 18 th at Mooseheart. We gathered at the Saint Charles lodge for breakfast and had an escort of Illinois State Troopers, Blue Knights, Rescue Riders and lead by Erik Estrada from the Saint Charles Lodge to Mooseheart. As many of you may know, Mr. Estrada was the special guest of honor at the Blessing this year and at the International Convention in Milwaukee, WI. The ride was filmed and may be part of a documentary in progress since January 2013 called Moose Proud. If you were fortunate enough to be at the Blessing you will know the Moose Riders took only one take to yell WE ARE PROUD and should be a part of this documentary! The following day, Sunday May 19 th, we had our 6 th Annual L.I.F.E. presentation (Laptop Investment for Education). I cannot express how wonderful it felt to have the presence of fellow Moose Riders in attendance and participating in handing out these gifts. In addition to the riders from various Illinois lodges, riders came from California, Florida, North Carolina, Ohio, and Texas. We had our biggest graduating class yet since we started L.I.F.E. and all 31 graduating seniors received laptops thanks to all of our combined efforts. Our essay subject this year was 100 years ago James J. Davis created Mooseheart, where would you be if he hadn t had this vision? Our top five winners were: Oumaru Abdulahi, Christopher Gustafson, Christian Villarruel, Sahr Mahoney and Chelsie Brady. In addition to the laptops, we awarded the Moose Riders from all over pose with 2013 Mooseheart graduating seniors at the Laptop and Essay presentation. 13

14 (continued from previous page) top five with Target gift cards in varying amounts. I would like to thank everyone who was able to give to this effort and I would especially like to thank my fellow Saint Charles Moose Riders for decorating the hall, serving a wonderful lunch, and all the thankless efforts that go into producing an event like this one. A special Thank You to Mike Guido Gillispie for bringing us music and allowing the graduates to play DJ for a day. Great job everyone! I would like to congratulate our very own Pipes Editor, Joan Fedora, for receiving 1st prize for General Excellence in the Association category of the Moose Journalism awards. I know she puts so much work into this publication and certainly deserves the recognition for her hard work herding all of our articles every quarter. Well done, well done!! Liza Chamberlain, St. Charles Moose Riders and L.I.F.E Co-Chair If you would like to give to the L.I.F.E. fund for the 2014 graduating class, please contact myself at nohat79@yahoo.com or Joan Fedora at mooseriderpipes@yahoo.com. This year, we are honored to chair The Cruisin for the Heart 2013 summer long ride started in our area by Kenosha, Wisconsin Moose Riders in We took on this task and have signed up 25 lodges in Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin to participate in this ride. As in the past two summer rides, this year will be no different with all the proceeds going to Mooseheart. In previous years, Kenosha was able to give over $4000, so we have big saddle bags to fill this year. We look forward to the challenge and are excited about it. Anyone who would like to join us at the Cruisin for the Heart 2013 summer end party please mark your calendar and for $10 you too can join in the fun on September 14 th at our Lodge. 14

16 Riverview, FL, Fundraiser for FSYR Safety Harbor Program Noell Cottage Florida Riders Making Wish Lists Come True On Saturday, June 1 st, the Riverview Moose Riders hosted a fundraiser for the Noell Cottage at the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranch (FSYR) Safety Harbor campus. Among the attendants was Debi Gerard, Donor Relations Officer for the Youth Ranch organization. Also joining us were three of the house parents and several of the children from the Safety Harbor Youth Ranch, invited as special guests for the cookout held for their benefit. In exchange for a cash donation or new household items to be donated to the FSYU Safety Harbor campus, members and guests were treated to the mouthwatering delights compliments of grill master Carl LeMay. The burgers and dogs were provided by the Lodge and the WOTM. All other menu items such as coleslaw, potato salad, beans, chips, cookies, brownies were donated by the Moose Rider board and membership. (continued on next page) Barbara Miller, the Moose Riders Chairman for the fundraiser, would also like to acknowledge others involved with the event: Dave & Kay Carlile, Roy Miller, Mohammed Eldib, Bill and Marcia Longenbarger, Carl LeMay, Rebecca Simmons, Diane Taylor, Andy Kamashian, Edwinna Mcquinn, Jay Long and Sally Lindsey, all pictured above with the children of Safety Harbor. 16

17 (continued from previous page) Between running, burger flipping, serving, and cleaning, we were able to spend some time eating with the children, talking, playing bean bags, horseshoes, pushing them on the swing, tossing rocks in the creek and act like rather large children ourselves. It was a great day of fun and fellowship and a field trip outside the campus for the children. In all, the Riverview Moose Riders collected several hundred dollars worth of household items along with $ to purchase additional items needed for the Noell Cottage. We would like to extend a hearty thank you to everybody that made donations of food, cash, and household items. We are glad you came out for a day of fun, all for a great cause. We are in the early stages of planning a date to deliver the collected items and hold a BBQ for the children and staff members at the Safety Harbor Campus. We will extend the invitation to other rider groups that might like to participate once we have a date and time. Harbor became the first and only residential campus with both boys and girls. It was specifically designed to help keep siblings together as they go through various degrees of childhood trauma. If you have never been to the Youth Ranch, we would encourage you to visit during an open house and see where our Moose Rider donations go. We guarantee that you will not be disappointed. On Saturday, July 6 th, we have another fun day with the children when the riders will be holding our International Kids Day Carnival and lunch from 11:00am to 1:00pm. We will be serving a carnival lunch of Corn Dogs, Mac n Cheese, French Fries and Popcorn. Carnival games will be geared more towards the 10 and under children. For the older children (aka US!), you purchase a chance to hit our current Administrator Gary Peltier, Governor Eddie Stone Jr., and/or Jr. Past Governor Roy Miller Jr. with a pie in the face. Derrick and Mike enjoy the LIFE laptop essay contest and laptop presentation at St. Charles. WOW, What a Ride!!! Mike Chiesa, Benny King and I made the round trip from Monterey, CA, to Mooseheart for the Blessing and then to nearby St. Charles Lodge for the Laptop Presentation and then up to Milwaukee for the convention and then back home to Salinas and Prunedale, CA. On the trip over we did 2750 miles and less than 250 Interstate Miles. On the way home we did mainly interstate to get home ahead of the nasty weather. I am out on another motorcycling adventure as a guide on the Easter Sierra ATV/ UTV Jamboree out of Coleville/Walker CA. It s on off-road vehicles. I was home for 4 days before leaving for this adventure. We haven't gotten pictures off our phones yet and haven t had a chance to sit down and put our story together, so you ll have to wait for the next issue to read about it. We can report that we raised $7200 dollars on our pledge run and turned in all but $200 of the money already. It was great to meet Joan and Charlie, Regina Perrin, the rest of the Floridians, the Texans, The Iowans, the Pennsylvanians, the great hosts at the Lombard Lodge and the St. Charles Lodge. It was great to meet Liza Chamberlain as well. All I can say is what a difference one week can make at Mooseheart weather-wise from 92 and sweltering hot at the Bike Blessing to Cool and Sprinkles at the Graduation. Convention was a wonderful experience as well as it was my first one. The trip was everything that we expected and more and you will see more in the next issue. Everyone have a safe riding season and Congratulations to PIPES on its winning publication. Way to GO!! 19 Buckeye Lake Riders supporting several causes Ohio Riders Take the Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Mike Willis takes 2nd place The Moose Riders at Buckeye Lake #2434 have been busy!! On March 16 th, The water temperature was 32 o, and the thermometer outside read 33 o, but that didn t stop Cindy Kealey and Mike Willis from plunging into Indian Lake! Mike was also in the costume contest and received 2nd place! They were just two of the hundreds that participated in the 2013 FREEZIN FOR A REASON Polar Bear Plunge, which benefited Special Olympics of Ohio. Almost $24,000 was raised at this plunge, (one of 6 in Ohio), and we were proud to be a part of it. The bus trip was one to remember for a while! The hospitality that Indian Lake Lodge showed us was outstanding and we hope to return the favor anytime they come and visit.. FIGHT CANCER, THUN- DER TUNNEL STYLE!! Even though the sky was gloomy at 6:00a.m. on Saturday, May 18th, that didn t stop Hobert Payne, Bob Wilson, Mike Willis, and Randy Willis from heading to the Race for the Cure. Thunder Tunnel is the area of the race where 400+ motorcycles line the streets of downtown Columbus and REV up their engines and made a thunderous noise to show support of the runners and walkers participating in the race. Over Memorial Day weekend, We held a raffle for a gas grill. Dubbed the party on the patio! The fund raised were used to help sponsor t-shirts for all the participants during TENT TOWN, Special Olympics. Several of our Moose Riders helped spruce up the Lodge on the Annual Spring Clean Up Day. You all really need to stop by our Lodge and see our GREAT TIKI BAR!! (Not too shabby for being in Ohio)! On June 8 th we had an AWE- SOME day for our poker run/ charity ride. We joined forces with the Moose Riders from Circleville and Lancaster to host this event. All proceeds went to A SPECIAL WISH FOUN- DATION. We CC wins Best Hand donated several items for the auction at the end of the run, almost 200 people participated and raised close to $4,000!! 21 New York to D.C. and Beyond Palmyra Moose Riders Pop Up Along the East Coast By the time this is published we will have our 5 th annual Poker Run (In memory of our fallen brothers and sisters) in the books and working on presenting our donation to the Make a Wish Foundation. We present one Wish to the Western New York Make a Wish Foundation each and every year. Our club works very hard to put this run on and make it a huge event in our community and everyone enjoys it. I will be sure to publish pictures in the next issue of PIPES. The Palmyra Moose Riders have been very busy this year hitting the road this spring. We started the year in May traveling to Berwick, PA. and visited Lodge # 623 in Bloomsburg P.A while we where there. We had a very good time and were welcomed with open arms. We traveled to Berwick to support a poker run being put on by the IBF International Bikers Federation. The IBF have been long time supporters of Palmyra Moose Riders: it was great to see them all again. We took a group picture at one of the stops for our picture wall at the home Lodge. Our chapter has many veterans in it, and a few of the members made the trip to D.C. for Rolling Thunder. Maybe you may have seen one of them; they were flying their colors proudly. We were asked to help put on the 2 nd annual Spring Thing in May. This is a fundraiser put on by the Widows Sons Grand Chapter (Widows Sons is an International Masonic Motorcycle Association comprised of Freemasons). We ran all of the biker games and everyone that attended had fun. We love to help. We are Moose Riders that s what we do. While we where there, our club had a chance to meet Lou Gram the lead singer for Foreigner. Check out the picture below with Mailman (VP), Lou Gram and the Prez Bugar. The best part about helping was when we learned how much money was raised for the charity they supported. Keep an eye out for a Palmyra Moose Rider, we are always traveling somewhere. Make sure to say hi, if we see your colors we will certainly say hi to you. Like us on Face Book (Thanks Krystal) We have many more pictures of our PA trip and pictures from Rolling Thunder. Check us out at to see pictures of events we have attended and our event calendar to see where we are going next! 22 Dedicated Nassau Moose Member and Moose Rider Passes Away NE Florida Riders Mourn Loss of Fraternal Brother The Nassau Moose Lodge has lost a valued Moose member and Nassau Moose Rider. Brother Carden was serving the Nassau Moose Lodge as Jr. Past Governor. He served as Governor during the past year having a notable impact on membership growth. Mr. Ron Carden sponsored and enrolled over 25 members in the past year. Brother Carden will be missed in our Lodge and by the Nassau Lodge Family and anyone that knew him. He was not only a Nassau member but a supporter of every Lodge event that occurred within the district. We were fortunate enough to be grouped with the District 13 Lodges of North Florida. Mr. Carden enjoyed and strongly pushed for all Lodges to support each other and help the community. He made a few trips to the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches to deliver books and supplies for the kids. He was an active member of the Nassau Moose Riders group, and enjoyed helping in any way he could to make the rides a success. Mr. Carden was a Moose member that was completely dedicated to the Moose. Mr. Carden passed away in an early morning house fire on May 20, 2013, at 1:19 am and he was unable to escape the home before a propane tank exploded and completely destroyed the home. He was preceded in death by his partner, Ms. Brenda Seymour, also a member of the Nassau Moose Lodge. 22 RONALD B. CARDEN MARCH 22, MAY 20, 2013 Our condolences go out to Brother Carden's immediate family who reside in Columbia County, Florida. Nassau Lodge

23 Here s a Great Fundraising Idea Support Your Lodges While Still Having Fun L ooking for Adventure, Fun and Excitement while still supporting your area Lodges and Mooseheart/Moosehaven? Why not consider doing a Cruisin for the Heart? Cruisin for the Heart is a summer long Poker Run started three years ago in Kenosha, WI, Lodge #289 by the Moose Riders. The objective is to have as many Moose Lodges in your area participate. Lodges participate by donating $ to the host Lodge and in return they get their Lodge listed in a booklet. The Lodge then receives 5 booklets (value $10.00 each) to sell to their members to recoup 50% of their entry fee. A Lodge may purchase additional books at $10.00 each to sell, if they wish. Members purchase the booklet and the summer of fun begins by visiting as many of the listed Lodges that they can. When the member goes to a participating Lodge, they are requested to make a purchase prior to getting the booklet stamped or signed. The host Lodge is responsible for getting Lodges to participate, printing the booklets, delivering or mailing booklets, having the end party and finding a host Lodge for the following year. Here in the Midwest, the run has been a May-September ride, but you could certainly make it any time of year depending on your climate. In the first year, which was 2011, the Kenosha Herd had a great turnout with 15 Lodges participating. The following year they were able to increase participation to 23 Lodges! At the year-end party, they drew poker hands, held raffles, had entertainment and food and great fun was had by all. At the end of two years and two runs, the Kenosha Herd was able to present Mooseheart with over $7,200! That s what we call a Royal Flush. For 2013, the Cruisin antlers were passed from the Kenosha Herd to the St. Charles, IL Moose Riders. We are proud to have been 23 able to secure 25 Lodges, many from previous years participation and several new ones!! Our year end party will be September 14 th starting at 1:00pm at the Saint Charles Moose Lodge. The buy in to the year-end party is the booklet. If you would like further information on Cruisin for the Heart, please contact Liza Chamberlain, Saint Charles Moose Rider #1368, nohat79@yahoo.com, Jeff Weatherbee, Kenosha Moose Riders #289, igoflying@yahoo.com or Sue Scherer Kenosha Moose Riders #289 suesch7@hotmail.com. So what are you waiting for? Cruise over to your local Moose Lodge, put on your Poker Face, start your engines (Open to all types of vehicles, not just Motorcycles) and start your own Cruisin event. See you at the Moose Lodge. Liza Chamberlain

24 Circleville, OH, Riders are booked up till October Ohio Riders Anticipate a Busy Riding Season The most important event for Moose Riders from coast to coast has once again come and gone. Circleville, Ohio, was well represented with 12 Moose Riders for May s Laptop give away and the Blessing of the Bikes at Mooseheart. Several of our members attended these event for the first time and as with all who witness this memorable occasion, it is forever instilled in their hearts what the Moose Riders represent. Circleville members are already making plans to raise necessary funds in support of 2014 s graduating seniors. Due to Ohio's unpredictable spring weather, most of our functions for April and May were held indoors. However, 5 Lady Moose Riders* from 3 surrounding counties proved their skillful riding abilities by riding approximately 100 miles through wind and rain on May 11th's "Girly Run". The "Girly Run" is one of two events held annually and is in celebration of Mother's Day. Their first stop (40 miles) was at the Xenia Moose Lodge where they joined several other Circleville members who participated in a mud volley ball tournament. Circleville's team ended up with mud from head to toe, but won first place in the tournament. Our fourth annual Spring Biker Bash was held on June 1. Fortunately, the weather co-operated and allowed us to go on the poker run and conduct the bike games. Although the clouds roared in later in the evening, brought the rain down in "buckets" and forced the band to move inside, all was not lost. Everyone had a blast! On June 8, Circleville Moose Riders teamed up with Moose Riders from Buckeye Lake, Lancaster and members of the charitable bike group LOBO to raise funds for "A Special Wish Foundation". Hundreds of motorcycle enthusiasts from all corners of the state turned out to support this most Ohio Moose Riders pose in front of Moose at St. Charles Lodge *Ohio's Lady Moose Riders was officially established in 2010 and was formed to provide additional support to the men in their efforts to raise funds for our charities. 24 worthy cause and raised over $3,000. Circleville Moose Riders are diligently working on the finalizations of upcoming events. On June 21 and 22 we will be traveling to Columbus to volunteer for the Special Olympics. Then on July 20, we will be sponsoring the 2nd memorial benefit run to pay tribute to one of our fallen members, Mike Forrest, victim of a tragic motorcycle accident in July of Funds raised will be contributed to the Pickaway County foster care child facility, "A New Leaf Inc.". We will be traveling to Independence, OH, on August to attend Ohio's State Moose Convention and upon our return will be scurrying around preparing for our most popular event of the year. August marks the 11th anniversary of our Annual Biker Bash and continues to draw motorcycle riders from all over the country. As result of a couple of our members "highly creative" minds, the bike games are always a huge attraction. We ll have food vendors and the band will rock your soul. Circleville's facility has over 40 electric hook-ups for camping enthusiasts and is located near several hotels for your week-end stay. On September 21, we will commemorate our fallen member, Sam Stumbo, by joining forces with 2 other charitable bike organizations for the Vet Fest/Stumbo Run. Proceeds will be distributed to veterans of Pickaway and Ross Counties. Although Circleville has conducted the Stumbo Run for the past several years, last year s event was the first time we combined our efforts with other groups. It proved to be very successful by raising $ We hope to surpass that amount this year. The month of October means one thing, the "Circleville Pumpkin Show", October To the Circleville Moose Riders, it represents hard work, ingenuity and loads of fun. We are working on a float for parade competition and many of you who visited with us last year can attest to the great time shared by all. If you've not already planned your vacation, come join us. You ll not regret it. October 5 is the Covered Bridge Run and the Leaf Run is October the 20. Both events afford the beauty of Ohio's countryside and fall foliage. For updates, visit To all, ride safe! Sally Henkle, Circleville Moose Riders Public Relations

25 Blessing First-Timers Enjoy Weekend at Mooseheart Portable Viet Nam Wall Gets Moose Rider Escort First time Trip to Mooseheart: Eight members of Mandarin 42 Moose Riders went to Mooseheart in May for the Bike Blessing and the handing out of laptops to the graduating class of I, for one, was a first timer. The facility is beautiful and not only did 4 of us go for the first time but it was an experience of a lifetime. For those who have never been there, you are missing out. The facility is fantastic and the people and children are very special. Our ride through Child City to the Bike Blessing prompted us to return on Sunday to see it again at our leisure. The grounds are extensive and it was neat seeing all the homes named for the different states. Mandarin Riders help with assembly of the Viet Nam Wall in Green Cove Springs, FL. The Mandarin Moose Riders escorted the portable Vietnam Wall from St Augustine to Green Cove Springs in Florida and assisted with its assembly. Getting out into the community helps get the word out about all the good things Moose Riders around the country accomplish. We need more visibility from everyone and help grow the Moose membership and Moose Rider numbers. On Saturday we entered the facility via the football field. The field would be the envy of any high school. Even the main entrance, which we used Sunday, is spectacular. In all we had 13 Moose Riders from Florida make the trip. Meeting the people from the other states (California, Iowa, Illinois, Ohio, Wisconsin) and visiting 3 of the area Lodges made for a fun time and a great trip. We'll do this again and make more new friends!!! Rich Vernon, Mandarin 42 Moose Rider. Mandarin Moose Riders pause by the James J Davis Statue at Mooseheart during a tour of the campus. 25

Phillip Sholes The Poker Run registration is well-staffed. Editor s Note: Beloit Moose Riders are new to Pipes and we re delighted to include them in this issue.
