There were over 40 members and former members there. I hope everyone liked the change we made in our seating arrangement. We want everyone to be able to see and hear each other. We are open to any other suggestions for seating, etc. I want to remind everyone to be checking their bikes to be sure they are ready to ride. Donʼt wait until your wife is ready to go on a ride and the battery is dead. Trust me, she wonʼt be happy with you. I know they could be in charge of that job, but in some homes it doesnʼt work that way. There were several of the original members in attendance. Dennis Carroll and Linda Semple presented a request for us to help them with a benefit ride for Dan and Pauline Myers to assist with his medical expenses. There was a large photo of them on the main table for those who hadnʼt met them yet. New Member James Potter Welcome new member James Potter. James rides a 2013 Tri-Glide. March Minutes Vonda Copeland secretary The March meeting of the KS Flint Hills HOG Chapter monthly meeting convened at 6:59 pm on the 9th at City Cycle Sales. Director Don R discussed the meaning behind the moments of silence and reminded people to keep others in thoughts as they may be facing difficulties. The group then joined in the Pledge of Allegiance. Birthdays for March: Linna G. on the 3rd, Mike R. on the 17th, and Jay C. on the 31st. One anniversary was reported for Mike and Len R. on the 9th Mike was taking her to Tyme Out to celebrate after the meeting! Guests/new members: Jim P. and Tim C. were new members present tonight, and Linda S. and Dennis C. were also visiting and catching up with old friends. It was a great crowd! Dennis updated the group on Dan Myersʼ status. He has finished radiation and is going to start chemo. He asked the chapter if they would assist in a poker run to raise money for expenses. Bonnie T. moved and Charlie G. seconded to participate in a poker run at a date to be determined. Motion passed. There were no correspondence/area rides to report yet, but Don mentioned the State Rally coming up May Old Business: Don pointed out the new chapter flag that was hanging in the meeting room and former director Mike R. gave a brief outline of how the new name came into being during the 2014 series of meetings. Don also reminded the group of the Run For the Wall activities coming up in May. The first highway clean up for the year will be April 18th. Charlie G. will check the safety gear and make sure it is ready. The officers will meet at 9 pm that morning at City Cycle Sales prior to the clean up. Mike R. had the certificates of appreciation for the 2014 officers that he presented. New Business: The dealership is planning a couple of radio remotes and asked if the chapter would like to barbecue a meal similar to the open house events last year. The dates are May 9th and 30th. There were several volunteers that said they would help with these events as chapter fundraisers. Dealership report: Don introduced several dealership staff at the meeting tonight. Jeff was introduced as the new General Manager. Jeff expressed his appreciation for the chapter and their support of the dealership. Parts Manager Dennis was present and is a new member of the chapter. Roger from the service department was also at the meeting it was great to see the City Cycle Sales people after hours and the appreciation is very mutual! And of course, Scott was downstairs keeping everything organized as he does every meeting and every event. Officer reports: Director Don R: Don handed out the patches and pins to the 2015 officers. It was during this time that it was pretty clear who Bozo was going home with.. Assistant Director Kirk M: Kirk took a count to go to Tyme Out after the meeting. Secretary Vonda C: The calendar for birthdays and anniversaries was passed around again. Everyone was reminded to get their orders in for the chapter tshirts and rocker patches in tonight so they can be ordered. There was an increase in pricing of $1 for the shirts from the time this project was started, so Don suggested that the chapter pay the increase. Vonda C. moved and Mike R. seconded this, and the motion passed. Treasurer Sue G: Sue reported the current account balances. She and Don showed some of the new plans for the message board outside the shop. Editor Wanda Allen: No report. Road Captain Gerry J: Gerry announced that he would continue as road captain only (Minutes continued on next page)

He will post rides via and on Facebook and if it rains, they will be cancelled/postponed. Safety Charlie G: The weather is nice, but subject to change, so dress accordingly and pack your saddlebags! He also mentioned the issues on exit 303 where traffic exiting I70 does not stop. There was a motorcycle accident there recently. The group added the sand on the road and the winter potholes as other hazards to watch as the bikes come out with the higher temperatures. Activities Carol E: No report. Ladies of Harley Claudia P: Claudia will update the group on what is needed for the RFTW zipper pulls and working the tables as we get closer to the event. There are some tshirts for Ladies of Harley available, she will have the group meet sometime to see if the group would like to order some that they could wear on rides. The dinner rides will be starting up, so watch for the s! Photographer Linda R: There are officer pictures and biographies that need to be updated on the chapter website. She also wanted to start the new member pictures again. Membership Karen C: Absent Webmaster Ryan Y: When the next newsletter comes out, please look for the quick survey link and take a minute to fill it out. Historian Janet Y: No report 50/50 winner: The total collected was $68, with half going to winner Larry L. The winner of the door prize was Kirk M. Other activities: Vonda officially nominated Don R. (as she already had been informally nominating him throughout the meeting!) It was a unanimous vote to give Bozo to Don for meeting moments too numerous to mention! Bonnie T. introduced a new What is It? challenge with an item she and Scott had picked up in an antique store. Jim P. won the challenge by guessing that the item she had was some type of feeder. It turned out to be an apparatus that was put on top of a mason jar filled with sugar water to trap ants. He won his St. Patrick Day beads and some Easter candy for his efforts! Linda R. had some pictures that she shared with the group that documented the lost days of Bozo when he was in Don R.ʼs possession. The meeting was adjourned, with the next meeting scheduled for Monday, April 13th at 7 pm. Tech Tip Dean Mizes City Cycle Sales service manager Spring is here!!! What great weather for riding now! A tip if youʼre just starting your bike for the first time since winter, is to make sure the battery is charged fully and the bike runs. To jump start a bike that has a dead or weak battery is a bad idea. Bike charging systems are meant to maintain a good battery, not charge up weak or dead batteries. To jump start one could lead to a bike that runs bad, quits running and leaving you stranded or even hurting the charging system. Scottʼs Corner Scptt Templeton City Cycle Sales Have you been looking for an all around jacket for both summer and cold weather riding? Well, check out the new FXRG Triple Vent System Switchback Riding Jacket. This is a nylon jacket with panels that zip off in the front and back to change it into a mesh jacket. It has the new triple vent system which features three statistically-placed vents on each side of the jacket to customize airflow. There are two liners, one is a water liner and the other for warmth with reflective technology to keep the heat in. Ultra lightweight body armor is sewn in the elbows and shoulders and a back pocket to add additional armor. Those of you that are looking for some lower back support, it has a kidney belt that can also be removed.

Motorcycles and rain makes you think, doesnʼt it? Like a boat without a trailer and Ramen Noodles without that little packet of brown stuff-somethingʼs just not right. Motorcycles, with their lack of allweather protection, just arenʼt for everyone. There is plenty of gear for the rider to wear to help fend off any inclement weather, but that is only going to stop some of the elements. You can bundle up when itʼs cold, put on your rain suit if itʼs raining, and any combination of heavier or lighter gear as the temperature fluctuates. Sometimes itʼs a combination of several weather conditions we deal with at the same time, and that too, is a challenge. A few years ago, I took a solo ride to Greeley Colorado for a family reunion. The weather man, in his war against motorcycles, was predicting heavy rain on the Friday morning in July I had planned to leave. Normally his ten percent accuracy rating would not bother me, but this time he seemed serious. My morning alarm was a clap of thunder and without too much trouble I could hear the heavy rain as it came down. But weʼre riding today, right? Yep. I had already loaded my motorcycle for the weekend trip, and with just less than 500 miles to get there, I was looking forward to it. Iʼve ridden in rain like this before, and I knew getting on the bike that I might get a little wet. My rain suit is on and away I go down the street to the stop sign. Boy, it is raining. For the next 150 miles of interstate the rain would not let up. Iʼm not uncomfortable riding in this at all, but I think there were a few motorist that were afraid for me. I stopped in Hays Kansas at the Harley-Davidson dealer to take a break and have some coffee. For July in Kansas can be hot, with the rain the temperature was just right. Any of you that have ever ridden with a rain suit on know that you will still get wet as the rain will creep in around your neck and up your sleeves-and this ride was no different. After thirty minutes or so, I put my rain suit back on and decided to head North to avoid the storm as heading West would have put me in it for several more hours. A few miles up the road the rain suit came off and although a little cloud cover was hanging over me, it had stopped raining. The rest of the ride was fantastic. Sometimes it takes a storm to put you on the right road-the one you should have been on to begin with. Kind of like life. When youʼre pushing hard in the direction you think you should be going, and youʼre fighting it every step of the way, change your direction. I ended up taking the back roads through Benkelman Nebraska and Wray Colorado where my folks grew up. We visited these places a lot when I was growing up to see family but I had never been through here on a motorcycle. Kind of appropriate since I was on my way to a family reunion in Greeley. The weatherman was right and Iʼm glad he was.

Please be thinking about what you want to put there. Iʼll try to have my camera with me when Iʼm at the shop and we can get this done quickly. I hope to get a write up about our name change in the next month or so, and submit it to the local newspapers and the Harley Magazine. If you know the names of any of the original charter members please let me know. Also, I want you all to be aware that there are a number of books in the television seating area at the dealership with pictures of previous yearʼs activities. I hope to work on them throughout the year with Deb A. and any other former photographers to get them marked so we can really enjoy them more.
