D CITY HIGHLIGHTS & GUINESS BREWERY This morning you will enjoy a tour of Dublin City on the banks of the nver Litfey, founded as a Viking settlement and has been the home of the Irish Parliament since the creation of the Irish Free State in On your tour you will see the Georgian Squares with their I 8th Century houses, the Phoenix Park (the biggest town park in Europe), statue filled O Connell Street and the fashionable Grafton Street. You will visit Saint Patrick s Cathedral, an architectural and historical site which has been at the heart of Dublin history for over 800 years. You will also visit the Old Library at Trinity College to view the famous of Book of Kells. No visit to Dublin would be complete without a visit to the Guinness Brewery founded in 1759 by Arthur Guinness. Here we will enjoy a guided tour which concludes with a leisurely pint of Guinness in the 360-degree roof top bar while enjoying some spectacular views of Dublin city. This evening you will regroup for dinner in a local restaurant. B L D IRISH NATIONAL STUD FARM, CASHEL & KINSALE This morning travel south to County Kildare - the center of Ireland s horse breeding industry where you will enjoy a guided tour of the Irish National Stud Farm. Since it bred its first winner MINORU in 1909, the stud farm at Tully has continued to produce many famous race horses and is the largest producer of thorough breds in Europe. While here visit the Japanese Gardens renowned for their symbolism of The Life of Man and the recently opened St. Fiacre commemorative garden. From here you continue to Cashel and tour the amazing Rock of Cashel, the seat of the Kings of Munster from I IOI. This group of medieval buildings set on an outcrop of limestone includes a 12th century Round Tower, a I3th century Gothic Cathedral, a 15th century High Cross and Romanesque Chapel. From here, travel to the historic fishing town Kinsale where you check into the Actions Hotel overlooking Kinsale Harbour. This evening you will enjoy dinner in the hotel s Pier 1 waterfront restaurant. B L D BLARNEY CASTLE & THE OLD JAMESON DISTILLERY This morning you travel to Blarney where you will visit Blarney Castle and Gardens. The castle was built in 1446 and today you will have an opportunity to climb the spiral stairs to the top of the castle and kiss the famous Blarney Stone said to bestow the gift of eloquence on all those who dare. Also on the castle grounds, you can visit the Castle Gardens and Rock Close. Enjoy some free time in the town of Blarney or to visit the Blarney Woollen Mills before your next stop at The Old Jameson Distillery for a guided tour. Here you will learn the history of whiskey making in Ireland and enjoy a glass of Jameson before departing. On returning to Kinsale the remainder of your afternoon is free to browse its many shops for gifts, crafts, paintings, locally designed fashions or take time out in one of its many lovely cafe s for coffee and cakes. Stop and enjoy Kinsale s Harbour and observe the marina activity. B L D WEST CORK - MIZEN HEAD - KENMARE - KILLARNEY Depart Kinsale and travel along the southern coast line to Mizen Head - the most southerly point of Ireland. Here you will visit the award winning Maritime Museum and Heritage Attraction. You can also take a ten-minute walk across the Arched Bridge over the crashing waves to the Lighthouse. Following this adventure you will travel up the coast via lovely lazy towns & villages to Kenmare, an example of one of Ireland s few planned towns. Kenmare and its Gaelic name Neidin (Little nest) so named because of its fine setting nestling as it does among the mountains of Cork and Kerry. You continue to Killarney taking in a 20-mile stretch of the famous Ring of Kerry. This evening you will check into your hotel for a two night stay. B L D DINGLE PENINSULA - DINGLE CRYSTAL This morning you enjoy the unspoiled beauty of the Dingle Peninsula, once cited as the most beautiful place on earth by the National Geographic. You will visit the Dingle Crystal Workshop founded by Sean Daly who designs, cut, and signs each individual piece of Crystal. As you travel around Slea Head, you will get some breathtaking views of the Atlantic coastline and see some beehive huts (early monastic settlements) dating back over a thousand years. View the Blasket Islands and see the locations for such films as Ryan s Daughter and Far and Away which starred Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. You will lunch in Dingle, followed by some free time to check out the many craft shops and the Dingle Crystal shop before returning to Killarney. 3 Foynes Flying Boat Museum TOUR HIGHLIGHTS: Days 7-10 Foynes Flying Boat Museum; Make An Authentic Irish Coffee; Dromoland Castle + Activities; Cliffs of Moher; Rathbaun Sheep Farm; Galway; Irishmore Island Religious Monuments; Cliffs of Dun Aonghasa; Strokestown Park; Irish National Famine Museum; Cavan Town Walking Tour FOYNES FLYING BOAT MUSEUM - DROMOLAND CASTLE Depart Killarney this morning and travel to the Foynes Flying Boat Museum. The museum recalls the historic time from 1939 to 1945 when Foynes became the centre of the aviation world. You will enjoy a guided tour and go inside a full scale replica of a Boeing 314 flying boat, the only one of its kind in the world. It was in this very building that the Irish Coffee originated in 1943 and before departing you will be shown how to make the perfect Irish Coffee. Continue on to Newmarketon - Fergus where you will check into the luxurious Dromoland Castle Hotel around midday. The castle built in the 16th century was once the royal seat of the O Brien clan. It was refurbished and transformed into a luxury hotel in 1962 and retains priceless reminders of the castle s historic past. The remainder of the day is free to enjoy some of the castles many activities which includes golf, fishing, falconry, clay pigeon shooting, tennis, archery and horseback riding. The golf course at Dromoland is regarded by many as one of the finest 18 hole parkland golf courses in the country. You may also like to try out the luxurious health spa. This evening you will enjoy dinner in the elegant surroundings of the castle s Earl of Thomond Restaurant. B L D CLIFFS OF MOHER - RATHBAUN FARM - GALWAY Bid farewell to Dromoland Castle and travel to the majestic Cliffs of Moher which rises to a height of 600 ft over the Atlantic Ocean. O Brien s Tower stands near the highest point and has served as a viewing point for visitors for hundreds of years. Your tour continues through the lunar type landscape of the Burren which takes its name from the Irish word bhoireann meaning, a stony place or a rocky place. Your next stop is Rathbaun Farm where we will enjoy a traditional ploughman s lunch. This will be followed by a guided tour of the sheep farm. Farm owner Fintan Connelly will give a demonstration of sheep shearing and sheep herding. You can spend some time in the thatched cottage and smell the peat fire before departing. Continue to Galway for your two night stay. B L D THE ARAN ISLANDS Today you will board a ferry to Inishmore - the largest of three Aran Islands and one of the highlights of the Wild Atlantic Way. The island is steeped in history and resembles an outdoor museum with over 50 monuments of Christian, pre Christian and Celtic mythological heritage. Enjoy a mini bus tour of the island with a stop at Dun Aonghasa, a dramatic 300 foot cliff spanning the western side of the island. Have time to walk around Dun Aonghasa before returning to Galway for the evening. B L D STROKESTOWN PARK - CAVAN TOWN After breakfast, travel to Strokestown Park comprising of Strokestown House, the Irish National Famine Museum and the Walled Gardens. The house was the Packenham Mahon family home and preserves original furnishings and fabrics. Following a guided tour of the National Famine Museum you will continue on to Cavan Town for lunch at a local pub. A local guide will take you on a walking tour of this colorful town. Spend some leisure time here before checking into the Radisson Blu Hotel. 4 TOUR HIGHLIGHTS: Days Belfast; Belfast City Hall; Belfast Linen Hall Library ; Belfast Grand Opera House ; Titanic Belfast Newcastle; The Antrim Coast Road Drive; Giant s Causeway; Knowth Guided Tour; Malahide BELFAST CITY - NEWCASTLE Travel to Belfast this morning for a tour of the city including City Hall - one of the finest Classical Renaissance buildings in Europe, the Linen Hall Library which has been lending books for over 200 years, and the Grand Opera House often described as the most beautiful Victorian theatre in the world! You will also see the Ulster Museum and Queen s University. Visit Titanic Belfast, nine galleries that tell the story of the RMS Titanic, her completion in Belfast and her famous maiden voyage and tragic end. Next you re off to Newcastle to check into the impressive Slieve Donard Hotel for two nights. Enjoy dinner in the hotel s Oak Restaurant. B L D GIANT S CAUSEWAY - ANTRIM COAST This morning you will travel to the Giant s Causeway while taking in one of the most scenic coastal routes in all of Ireland, The Antrim Coast Road Drive. You will get some breathtaking views as you travel along the northern coastline. On a clear day, you can see the Mull of Kintyre in Scotland. You will travel through the picturesque villages of Glenarm, Carnlough and Cushendall before arriving at the Giant s Causeway - a remarkable basaltic formation made of approximately 37,000 columns and ranked as one of the natural wonders of the world. Following your visit, you return to Newcastle. B L D BOYNE VALLEY This morning you depart Newcastle and travel to the Boyne Valley, one of the most historic parts of Ireland where you will visit Knowth - the largest passage grave of the Brú na Bóinne group. It consists of a large mound and 17 smaller satellite tombs. Also in the Boyne Valley are two more similar mounds, Newgrange and Dowth and collectively they have been designated a Unesco World Heritage Site. You will have a guided tour of Knowth followed by some free in the Brú na Bóinne visitor centre. From here you travel to the coastal town of Malahide where you will check into the Grand Hotel which overlooks the Irish Sea. 5 ENCHANTED IRELAND: GENERAL INFORMATION RESERVATIONS Reservations may be made directly to John Hall s Alaska by mail, telephone, or in person. This tour is open to John Hall s Alaska alumni and friends or family that will be touring alongside the alumni. DEPOSITS To confirm your reservation please send a deposit of $ per person within ten days of your reservation. To reserve your space by credit card, please contact our office. FINAL PAYMENTS Final Payment must reach John Hall s Alaska 90 days prior to tour departure date. If payment is not received on time, space may be released; re-booking will be subject to availability. Mastercard, Visa, Discover, American Express, and personal checks are acceptable forms of payment. A discount of $200 per person will be extended for tours paid by cash or check. ($500 per person deposits may still be made by credit card). CANCELLATIONS If a cancellation is made in writing at least 90 days prior to departure, a full refund will be made. For cancellations made less than 90 days prior to departure, the following per person charges apply: days - deposit amounts, days - 50% of total charges; days - 75% of total charges, 14 days prior to departure, 100% of fare. In the event of interruption or cancellation of your tour after its commencement, there will be no refunds. FLIGHTS: This tour begins and ends in Dublin, Ireland. Please schedule your arrival flight to land prior to 2pm. Upon completion of the tour, you may return home on flights from Dublin after 10am. We recommend flights after 12pm so that you don t miss breakfast. Due to TSA security checks, please arrive at your local airport 3 hours prior to the plane departure time. MOBILITY RESTRICTIONS: This tour will require the ability to walk an easy mile or two on cobbled and sometimes uneven pavement. Some attractions and historic sites (i.e. castles) may only be accessed fully by taking uneven and small stairs. Please be aware of these requirements before joining the tour. SPECIAL NEEDS Special diet requests. specific medical conditions, physical disabilities or other special needs requirements must be noted at the time of booking. This includes all waitering staff and luggage handling gratuities while on tour. Tipping your Tour Representative is not required and should reward exemplary service. PACKING RECOMMENDATIONS The daytime dress code for this tour is casual. Comfortable walking shoes, jeans or capris for touring days. Don t forget the sun protection: sunblock, sun glasses and a hat. You will want to pack business casual attire (i.e. slacks, black pants, closed toed shoes) for 6 evening dinners where shorts and casual sandals will feel underdressed.
