2 Camporee Theme You may not be aware that a significant portion of our history in early America took place right here in New Jersey. Back in 1776 our forefathers commanded by Continental Army General George Washington landed here after crossing the Delaware River from Pennsylvania on a cold frigid night. The theme of this Camporee is a HISTORY SCAVENGER HUNT During the day Saturday your units will tour the park walking in the same place George Washington and his men stepped over 239 years ago!

3 Camporee Theme con t Each Patrol will be provided with a Scavenger Hunt Sheet containing questions related to the Park which need to be answered. Answers can be found as follows: Looking through the State Park brochures you will be provided. Visiting a historic building and look for specific items. Listening to presenters at the locations you will visit. Visiting the Visitor Center Museum where answers can be found. In addition you will need to collect samples of what nature has provided in the Park. Each correct answer counts as one (1) point. Prizes will be awarded to those Patrols with the three highest scores. First Place, Second Place and Third Place.

4 WELCOME TO THE 2016 SUSSEX DISTRICT SPRING CAMPOREE AT HISTORIC NEW JERSEY WASHINGTON CROSSING STATE PARK General information prior to arrival for planning purposes: Arrival, unloading and parking 1. We will be utilizing all group campsites at the park. Each campsite has a capacity limit and you will be assigned a campsite upon arrival and an area within that campsite. Specific location will be determined based upon the number of participants registered by your unit. Should we exceed the capacity limit of the campsites an overflow area adjacent to the campsites has been approved by the Park. This is only to be used for overflow if needed. 2. Entrance to the group campsite area is via Mercer County Route 579 (Bear Tavern Rd.) across from Pennington-Titusville Rd. 3. Parking adjacent to the campsites is limited and utilized on Saturday by the local soccer teams. For this reason each Troop arriving Friday evening will first unload in the group campsite parking area and leave ONLY their troop trailer OR ONE designated vehicle for food storage in this parking lot. 4. All participants will park in the upper Knox Grove parking area across from the group sites and it is short walk back to the campsites. 5. Special note The park entrances and exits are locked overnight for our protection. If you are aware in advance of a need to exit during overnight hours, special arrangements will need to be made with the New Jersey State Park Police who have jurisdiction of the park property.

5 Camping Information: 1. As is the case with all New Jersey State parks, trash is carry-in/carry-out. Please be sure to bring sufficient waste bags with you. 2. Composting toilets are available in front of each campsite (4 total). These are dry facilities. Traditional toilet facilities are available during the day at various locations as you participate in the days planned activities. 3. These are DRY campsites so plan to bring sufficient water containers. There are at least two identified water sources within the park with limited hours. If driving to them is required, the Camporee staff will assist you in getting to them. 4. There will be NO GROUND FIRES of any type by your troop. All cooking should be done on propane stoves. There are a limited number of charcoal grilles at each campsite which can be used but do NOT assume enough for each troop to have their own. You must clean out the stoves prior to departure on Sunday if used. 5. A trail lunch will be needed for Saturday as you will likely be some distance from your campsite at lunchtime.

6 Dress & Respect: 1. As this is a historic park, during the planned events period you will be traveling throughout the park and each scout and scouter is required to be in Class A uniform. When in camp Class B or appropriate casual clothing is fine. 2. We will be in a public park and as such each scout is expected to follow the Scout Law at all times and most especially when other park visitors are at the areas you are visiting and sharing. Scheduled Activities: 1. A Leaders Guide will be presented to each troop which will include the weekend schedule. 2. A map of suggested travel from Sussex County to the park will be provided. 3. Information brochures about the park itself and some specific locations you will be visiting will be provided. Hint These may help during your event challenge Saturday. 4. A map of the park will be provided indicating all locations that will be part of the weekend s activities as well as roads and trails you will travel. Our thought behind holding the Camporee at Washington Crossing is to have you walk in the steps of our forefathers and have our scouts (and perhaps yourself) learn a little more about history that took place in our own New Jersey front yard.
