1 Edinburgh Central Youth Hostel access statement November 2015 This access statement does not contain personal opinions as to our suitability for those with access needs, but aims to accurately describe the facilities and services we offer all our guests Introduction Edinburgh Central is located on the Leith Walk, which includes Haddington Place. It is one of the longest streets in Edinburgh. It slopes upwards from "the Foot of the Walk", where Great Junction Street, Duke Street and Constitution Street meet, then links to the east end of Princes Street, the location of our High Street shopping. A few minutes walk will take you to Waverley Station and Edinburgh s main bus station. Twenty minutes walk will take you to the Royal Mile, Carton Hill and Edinburgh Castle. This stylish youth hostel is ideally situated for exploring and enjoying Scotland s vibrant capital. Edinburgh Central has 72 bright modern en-suite bedrooms, with free Wi-Fi throughout the building and internet terminals located beside Reception. It is well equipped to cater for all guests needs, with an onsite café serving assorted teas, coffees, alcoholic drinks, light snacks and a selection of meal options. There s also a selfcatering kitchen with a small dining and lounge area to relax in, guest laundry facilities, bike shed and conference and meeting room. We look forward to welcoming you. There is a bus stop 130m away. Bus times can vary - for further details see the bus operator's website The nearest train station is Waverley Station which is 800m away. Coming by car: our address is 9 Haddington Place, Edinburgh EH7. Car parking Car parking is not available at the youth hostel. From the north & west follow signs for the city centre, then continue along Queen Street, onto York Place. At the roundabout, take the first exit on the left onto Leith Walk. Edinburgh Central is situated 400m from the roundabout on the left hand side, at the corner of Haddington Place on Leith Walk and Annandale Street. From the south & east follow the A1 towards the city centre, approaching the city via Leith Walk. The youth hostel is situated at the corner of Haddington Place on Leith Walk and Annandale Street. Main entrance / Reception The youth hostel is furnished to a highest standard; the front Reception is warm and welcoming with a lounge seating area for guests. Reception is open 24 hours Check-in is between 15:00 and 23:00 Please advise if late arrival is required Checkout is by 10:00 There is no ramp at the entrance. There is no handrail at the entrance.

The main door is 92cm wide and is firm to open. The main door opens with a pull from the outside. There is a wheelchair access door with a push plate to activate entry, door is 92cm wide.

Please contact the youth hostel to reserve this in advance of your stay. Our three disabled rooms are fitted with automatic loop devices. Access is all on one level.

There is a revolving door which works manually. The floor in Reception is tiled and carpeted. Reception is straight ahead. There are induction loops available at Reception. Please contact the youth hostel to reserve this in advance of your stay. Our three disabled rooms are fitted with automatic loop devices. Access is all on one level. Lift access to all floors is available. A publicly-accessible toilet is available on the ground floor. We have one designated disabled toilet which is fitted with handrails and an emergency alarm system. At check-in, Reception staff will explain where the various facilities are located. They will also explain the door key and fire procedures and offer luggage assistance.

Bedrooms The youth hostel has 73 bedrooms of which are

configurations from 1 person up to 6 person rooms.

4 Bedrooms The youth hostel has 73 bedrooms of which are all accessible by lift or the stairwell. There are no bedrooms on the ground floor. We have 4 floors of accommodation with various configurations from 1 person up to 6 person rooms. All bedroom corridors are carpeted and are a minimum of 148cm wide. Doors are a minimum of 82cm wide.

5 Bathrooms All of our accessible rooms are en-suite and offer the following: Door opening to the shower pod is 81cm wide. Step-in shower with a step threshold height of 18cm. Toilet height is 43cm. Wash basin height is 92cm. Lever taps are fitted on the washbasin. Non-slip flooring. Toilet and shower room lights are movement activated.

There is a continuous staircase to all five floors, with a handrail on one side.

6 Public areas Hall, stairs, landings, corridors All public areas, halls, stairs and landings are well lit with ceiling and wall lights. There is short pile carpet in all corridors, stairwells and bedrooms. There are two lifts on each floor, both with non-slip flooring. There is a continuous staircase to all five floors, with a handrail on one side. Lounge area On the ground floor at Reception there is a seated area with a selection of modern sofas and lounge chairs that can accommodate up to 25 people. Flooring is carpet and tiles. There are two widescreen televisions with remote control and subtitle facility.

Catering/self-catering The restaurant and Haddington Place Café are located on the ground floor. We have an in-house café which serves assorted teas, coffees, wine, beer and spirits.

Haddington Place Café is open daily between 07:30 and 23:00 (menu options are only available until 20:30). Our self-catering kitchen is on the lower ground floor and has non-slip laminated flooring.

7 Catering/self-catering The restaurant and Haddington Place Café are located on the ground floor. We have an in-house café which serves assorted teas, coffees, wine, beer and spirits. Our chefs prepare daily homemade cakes and scones. Brunch, light lunch and dinner menus are available. Haddington Place Café is open daily between 07:30 and 23:00 (menu options are only available until 20:30). Our self-catering kitchen is on the lower ground floor and has non-slip laminated flooring. The sink units, worktops and cooking hobs in the self-catering kitchen are 89cm high. Our sink has lever taps. Crockery and utensil storage is located on a free standing unit at a height of 89cm. There are no steps to the restaurant and the dining area has no fixed seating. The dining tables are 74cm high. The restaurant and Haddington Place Café has floor tiles. The self-catering dining room has wooden laminated non-slip flooring. We are able to cater for varying dietary requirements. Please advise us when booking. Breakfast is available please pre-book. Packed lunches are available please pre-book. Dinner is available. Groups of over 10 people must book a minimum of three days in advance.

Laundry The guest laundry is located on the lower ground floor and access is level via the lifts or stairwell. There is a sink with lever taps. The sink unit and worktops are 82cm high.

Hairdryers, irons and board games are available (a deposit is required). Conference and meeting event rooms Edinburgh Central has meeting and event facilities which are available to hire (at a very reasonable cost) for both corporate functions and private gatherings. Hardware includes a ceiling mounted projector, remote control projection screen and entertainment system. There is an induction loop in the conference room.

9 Other useful information We have a set of evacuation procedures if required, someone will come to your room and assist you. The nearest hospital with an A&E unit is 5 miles away and the nearest doctor s surgery is behind the youth hostel. Please let us know if you require further information about these.
